24 Season 5 on FOX

Thread Starter
Tonight. Stoked.

AICN has a big write up on the first 4, showing tonight 8-10 as well as the same for tomorrow. http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22197 . Tons of spoilers I can't bear to bring myself to read. I don't want the recycled plot threads ruined for me before i watch it myself. haha.

but seriously. pretty different premise than the other 4 have had, hopefully they keep it that way and we don't find jack reinstated by the end of hour 1.

Thoughts?
Is it aired every monday afterwards?

I liked the first 3 seasons, thought 4 was sub-par but still entertaining, just wish they'd be more original and daring really, set it in another country or whatever.
Since this is pre-empting Family Guy and American Dad, I might give this another shot, but I couldn't even make it past hour four last season.

Yes, after these first four it will stay nestled in its rightful home of Mondays at 9.

I've been trying not to read too many of the articles on this season but I did glance at the one in EW where I was shocked to learn that in addition to Peter Weller, this season will showcase the dramatic talents of C. Thomas Howell!
Yeah Peter Weller has got to be loving this little resurgence his career is having back into mainstream work. Oydssey 5 (yes, I know it was cancelled), Enterprise, that shitty Poisedon TV-remake and now this. I wonder what the future holds for the man.
I've avoided 100% of the spoilers out there--more out of laziness than any overwhelming desire to remain pure, but still--but considering that the TV promos are hyping this as "now Jack is out for revenge" and the fact that Dennis Haysbert has a new show starting soon make me think the "shocking" opening they keep hyping involves President Palmer taking the big dirt nap. Which will annoy me.

I'm happy to see Robocop joining CTU, though.
Looking forward to it. I have a love/hate relationship with this show, but usually I can put aside the stuff that annoys me. Hopefully they'll cut back on the annoying crap (CTU office stuff/political stuff), tighten up the plot, and give us a good season.
Thanks for the heads up Moltisanti.

We all said that before season 4 started and what happened? More CTU bullshit than ever. Friggin Edgar, Chloe and fucking sockets, gah!
Seeing as how Chloe is going to have a romance with some new CTU tech-wiz I have a feeling we're going to get more CTU-related eye rolling. I just feel bad for the man who truly deserves the love of Chloe, Edgar. Does Edgar not deserve passion?

Hopefully Buchanan will be around long enough to prove that there is some sanity inside that clusterfucked organization.

He helped Big Pussy rat out the family to the feds. He doesn't deserve shit.

....wait, which show are we talking about here?

Oh yeah, that thing with the clocks and the guns, and the cougars.....

When the show's on point, which usually means Jack Bauer in Sam Fisher mode, it's exciting as hell. When it's not...well.....it's just there. Blandness broken up by the occasional unintentional moment of comedy.

However, there's been two constants as long as this series has been on the air: the season will start strong, and it will end strong. Everything in between is a coin toss.

Which still makes it more fun to watch than most shit on TV.

See ya at 8.
Chloe is the best part of the show, in my opinion. She's completely hilarious and provides some much needed comic relief between all the tension.

I thought season 4 was the most consistent and well done season yet, and Shoreh Agdashloo's performance was amazing. This year I'm all about seeing the CTU Meets Robocop action.
Behrooz, Behrooz, BEHROOOOOOOZ!
Fuck. You. Football.
so you have to wait 15 minutes. Just hope they don't join the show in progress.
Holy crap! I saw it coming as soon as the whole "melancholy" thing started, but damn!
They won't. I'm just hoping they cut out some commercials so my TiVo gets the whole damn thing since 24 is forcing me to watch The West Wing live tonight.
Okay, I was kind of expecting David Palmer but Michelle? DAMN! 24 is back with a vengeance!
Palmer and Michelle dead with Tony gone or really badly burned. Atleast we got the Cub mug back. I hope this means Mandy the assassin comes back.
I enjoyed the Beetlejuice-esque music as the Crazy First Lady's Theme.
Ack, they kill Palmer and leave is with this wimpish president! I think Palmer might still be alive, but I'm probably off here.

Great start!
There only one thing I'm looking forward too this season on 24.

Matt's review wrap up.
"Relax, he's really good at this."

Off to a good start.
I'm keeping notes on 24 only because I think it will be so funny that I want to make sure I don't forget any hilarity:

- D.B. Woodside and Palmer make a cute couple.

- The first 10 minutes promo, the "special appearance" credit, and the tone of Palmer's death scene completely took the surprise out of it. And to think, if they had just used a sniper in season one, those terrorists could have saved themselves a lot of heartbreak.

- Yeah, the secret service would just be sitting on their hands right now after the assassination of a former-President.

- Her car is going to explode. I WIN I was expecting big character deaths, but I was hoping for someone more unlikable than Michelle, namely, Chloe. Kill Chloe and blow up CTU, and I'll be happy.

- DAMN IT. If only Edgar hadn't warned her, we'd have pieces of Chloe scattered everywhere

- I like Jean Smart's character already.

- Is it just me, or is this all just kind of boring?

- Coooold-bloooded. A million fanboys just peed themselves. I love how Jack loves America, but doesn't much care for its justice system.

- They really need to stop selling those Jack Bauer masks at Party City.

- Yes, if we throw out any plausible motive, Jack is our perp. Now we can all stop looking for other suspects. Ah, the brain-trust that is CTU.

- Don't shoot, especially not the tires!

- And now I dislike Jean Smart's character already.

- I love the officer who won't stop the kid but makes sure to stop his mother and put her back in the car.

- It's a good thing those guys eventually held up the place because they looked waaaay too sinister to just be dudes hoping to covertly stroll into a crowded location.

- Thankfully the hostage situation makes me interested enough to catch tomorrow night's episodes. After that, I'll decide whether or not I'll stick with 24 this season. Right now, I'm leaning towards "no".
Well, I've been a die-hard fan since season 1 - but the show hasn't been as good since then. Anyway, I didn't even realize the season started tonight (this week sometime, yea) and I haven't caught any commercials except the cheesie "my name's not Frank" teaser. I was pleasantly suprised with how good this episode was. I was worried since, obviously, Chloe is going to be in this for the long haul (unless we're lucky) but she toned it down some. I was shocked to see Palmer back only to have him shot in the throat 30 seconds later. Damn.

I missed, probably 20 minutes of the 2nd episode when I paused for a bit and accidentally changed the channel on my DVR (no, I wasn't recording the show). Looking forward to tomorrow night's episode.

Lucky you. FOX has played them in every commercial break for the past week, it seems.

I missed the last 5 minutes because my TiVo had it scheduled to stop recording at 10PM. Fuck FOX for not cutting commercial breaks to squeeze the whole thing in the amount of time. Sure, it would have screwed up the count ins and count outs, but they need to make sure things get done on time.
ggeeeeeeeezzzussssssss. Another bad guy on the inside, esp to the president. Thought we had enough of that.

But then again we had enough of Chloe's horrible personality and acting and Edgars annoyance and lisp.

btw, good job killing they guy you could have helped you Jack, real smart.
Chloe's face when the guy she slept with was behind her whispering in her ear was hilarious. She looked like he had just thrown up all over her shoulder.

Love to see a screencap of that.
well I'm sure that he was gonna die if he didn't get medical attention.

Killing Michele got me pissed, she was looken hot. After that, I had to go and watched the show in pieces, so it was interesting for what I saw.
OK... someone tell me what happened in the last 5 minutes. I guess I could wait until tomorrow to figure it out, but I'd like to know before then.
-it's Die Hard 2 or something.
-A teenage stowaway, clever guys.
-Wayne Palmer will be President if there's a 6th season.
-an entire show made up of stock characters, not one dynamic personality, except Chloe who is a one-note sourpuss.
-Remember when Audrey killed Edgar's mom? no hard feelings I guess.
-the President's main confidant is a traitor, what will they think of next?

my girlfriend will make me watch tomorrow for sure, hopefully I can get out of watching the entire season. What a disappointing existence 24 has.
It got me.

I'm staying at least til tomorrow. Sure it's basically Jack getting in the same situations as other times but hey...if I get to see his sweet H&K unload some rounds I'll be happy.
Predictable as hell, but the first two episodes were still fairly lean and well-paced, all things considered. I'm sure the typical aimless storyline bloat and the parade of easily digestible moral quandaries will once again sink the show before it even hits midseason, but that was a solid opener.

Forgive the crappy quality...Adelphia sucks.

Overall I liked tonight's episodes. If this season stays this entertaining I'll be happy.
That's a reaction? I thought her face was frozen with that expression.

Basically the bad guys started firing a bunch of rounds in the airport, killed a few people, and now have taken everyone hostage including the son of Jack's girlfriend.

I've often heard my parents talk of what it was like when JFK was killed, now I finally have a sense of what they were talking about. Sure I knew Palmer was going to get it, anyone could see it coming, but it was like the end of ROAD TO PERDITION when you know Hanks is going to get clipped and it jolts you anyway. But then to see it was longtime dirtbag Jeff Kober who pulled the trigger made it seem even more sinister. Yeah, I'm glad Bauer killed him. So what?

Onto Tony and Michelle. I was glad to see the return of Tony's soul patch. It was a clear sign that they were happy and living a normal life. I had a hunch Michelle was going to get it tonight but I figured it would be an "end of the hour" death. Having it occur right after Palmer's demise threw me for a loop. There's no way Tony dies because there must be the obvious scene where Jack talks to him and says "I know what you're going through, I've been there myself."

I don't really get the gripes about another high ranking turncoat. It would be like complaining because too many people talk to the Feds on "The Sopranos." I'm just glad they've stated who's the traitor (or the first traitor) early on instead if dragging it out a few more episodes.

The heartbreak on Edgar's face when he realized Chloe has found a new suitor was simply devastating. Why can't this world bring happiness to Edgar?
Great episode. I'm hooked.....again. Time to break out the old WWJBD wristband. I avoided every spoiler, and the deaths of Michelle and Palmer hit me like a ton of bricks. Ugh. I like that Jack has evolved enough as a character that he no longer has any pretense of morality when it comes to admitted terrorists. I might have told Wayne, however, that I had killed his brother's assassin.

I do wish they had tied the prequel included on the season four DVD in a little more....basically that's become an unconnected plot thread.

Day: MADE.
Sigh...a frustrating 2 hours for me. There was a lot of good in this episode, but a lot of retreading on old mistakes that I was hoping 24 wouldn't do again.

First of all, Jack needs to cut ties with all humans, so he doesnt get anyone else accidentally involved in all this shit. Do we really need this dead weight stoner skater punk involved with this shit now? Do we really need another difficult relationship that we know wont work but are supposed to love to see him try and make work? Fuck that kid, i hope he dies.

Second of all, another mole? Jesus. I guess being a high ranking official in the 24 universe is as easy as going to community college. Every fucking joe schmoe "infernal affairs" type can move up the chain for nefarious purposes in this show. I hope that the new CTU computer jock is not a mole because I get the feeling they are setting him up for something.

Third of all, chloe. my god chloe. Please die. I was so hoping her car would blow up too. THAT would have been great.

Anyway, I get the feeling that Jack will be working with CTU again in certain instances, but I hope there will be much less involvement from them during this season. I like the airport scenario only because it is a great setup for some ass kicking. I liked the scene in the apartment because it once again solidified baur's solid snake-yness. Palmer dying while predictable, was no less powerful. I really didnt' see michelle getting the boot though. THat was surprising. Also, I enjoy the fact that the russians are involved somehow with this because as we all know, russians make good villains (dont make me do a list)
I don't watch this show normally but I caught this after the Bears game. Pretty well done premiere. The plotting was fairly tight and didn't feel forced.

Agreed...move over "LiveStrong!"

I found this to be one of the better openers for the show. I figured someone was going to bite it ("You [U]must[U] watch the first ten minutes or we will murder your first born!") but I was hoping it would be Chloe...I only have enough room in my life for one Chloe and she is in Smallville.

I was impressed that they did not draw out Michelle's death. Boom, dead.

Yeah, I made a Die Hard 2 comment at the end, but I am looking forward to Jack getting his ass out of this one...

The more Die Hard homages, the better.

And for those who think I'm kidding about the wristband:

That type of awesomeness can't be described!

I have already put in my order...now I must wait...
I just thought of something. How does the prequel tie in exactly? The plan was to frame Jack Bauer and yet in the prequel they try to kill him off right there. Doesn't make that much sense to me. Maybe I'm missing something.

Anyway, I liked Season 4. But I didn't see Season 3 and I stopped watching Season 2 when it seemed to all be about Kim escaping the most outlandish things. But as for this opener? I thought it was pretty good. I just know that there's going to be that lull in the middle where they stretch things out far more than they should.
I never saw any of the promos. Hence Palmer and Michelle getting knocked off make me shriek like a howler monkey.

Matt Goldberg pretty much nailed all my problems, but overall, this was pretty good stuff.

And I think it's just the hair, but Chloe's lookin' good this season. Plus there's a chance she won't be a total bitch, which is a plus.

Ahhh... thank you so much!

Considering a new avatar!
Chloe's new guy is going to have something to do with the bad guys. There's always a mole in CTU.
Entertainingly convoluted and improbable. And it managed to go nearly two full hours before becoming completely retarded. "I have to warn Jack!"
And apparently the van Chloe and the kid were in didn't have AC. She was sweating like madman!
Delivered on what 24 promises: implausable action, trecherous moles, Chloe's grimacing, Edgar fretting, and Jack kicking inordanate amounts of ass. What's not to like?

I actually cheered a couple of times in quick succession during the premere. Once when Tony's soul patch was revealed (raising him to full greatness) and once when Tony's Cubs mug was shown (raising him above and beyond full greatness). Sadly the man will likely be in traction much of the season.

Great start and I'm looking forward to tonight's next two hours.

I say he's down for about 2-4 hours. He was once shot in the neck and was up and about in no time. On this show major surgery is to these characters as getting a tooth filled is to us mortal men.
