As we put the finishing touches on this CD, here's another.

Cancers and Broken Dreams

MP3 FILE (Right Click and SAVE AS)

Told you one day I'd be broken
if words can kill, be my executioner
be the one to close my eyes
tell them everything
finally

Before your confession is heard
take it slowly with the painful
fragments all breathless
and listen to me
sidestep the nightengales singing
of cancers and broken dreams
you have been loved all the time

Glassy eyed
but still your presence warms to the touch
what once had inspiration and respiration
dissolves and puts the weight on someone new
spend a moment on my dime
finally

Nick - bass and words
Micah - guitars
John - guitars
Steve - drums

I dont mean to sound bad,
but that was good,
a lot better than i expected.
lyrics in last verse are a little long tho
its a struggle to get em all said.
still good tho

I like the song but the production is kind of off. The vocals are over-processed and the drums are just sitting there in the speaker. There's also what sounds like a double-kick as done by a click track sound that's overpowering everything around it. You've got that great Santana-esque sound coming from the guitar but you're losing it to that persussion sound.

The break at the end is interesting but it's mixed as if it's a different song then the rest of it. I've always liked the idea of having a musical shift at the end of a song but it has to have a lead in. It's like foreshadowing in a movie. You have to give clues that it's about to happen or it just sounds like two songs that got smashed together.

I'm not sure what you are using as your board or your mixing tools so I don't want to critique the mix too much. If it's a little four channel Sure then it sounds great. If you're using a 24 Channel Mackie with individual micing and Pro Tools then it sounds kind of weak.

Good song and some really good licks in there.
