Brokeback DVD release?

I keep hearing persisting rumors that Brokeback Mountain is going to hit DVD shelves on March 7th, a mere two days after the Oscars and not even a full four months after it was released theatrically--since that less than a month and a half away and our handy dandy Special Edition column hasn't made nary a mention, I'm trying to figure out if this is bullshit or not. I think it's a crap move on the distributor's part--if it's as big an Oscar contender as it's shaping up to be, it'll make a mint in the hteatres, and be even bigger on DVD.

I have it on pretty good authority that Universal has staked out a March release date on BROKEBACK. Although I think it might be near the middle/end of the month, so they can capitalize on JARHEAD first.

Still, with its Globe performance already sending it towards the little gold man with no penis, I'm wondering if they'll release a fairly standard one and then the SE down the line - in the terms of their previous homeruns of The Jerk and Big Lebowski. That'd be great!

Still wouldn't be as gay as The County Bear Jamboree.

Word on the street is that it's now arriving on 4.04.04. Tentatively.

But, should it clean up at the Kodak Auditorium (and it will), maybe expect that date to be pushed back so they can scream "WINNER!" atop its spine.
