Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Blue Thunder: Special Edition on April 4th. The thriller arrives with a newly remastered anamorphic transfer, commentary with director John Badham, a documentary featuring all-new interviews with Badham and star Roy Scheider, "Building the Helicopter" featurette, storyboards and still gallery. Retail is $19.94.
Don't be a JAFO, buy it today! (Not the offical advertising slogan)

Also saw that Con Air: Unrated Extended Edition will be out on May 16th. I'm probably one of the 10 people that actually like this movie, so I'm happy, at least.

Blue Thunder and Con Air.... Sweet. Blue Thunder should really have got some love in that B-movie thread where everyone realised that Moltisanti will one day become head of a religion worshipping Dolph Lundgren, Don "The Dragon" Wilson and Michael Dudikoff as the new holy trinity.

I liked BT, but not enough to buy the DVD again.

Sweet! I loved both of those movies. Can the Blue Thunder season set be far behind?

I watched Blue Thunder not too long ago, for the first time since it was in theatres. A double dip is certainly due because the original DVD is pretty bare, but the movie is no great shakes and no amount of extras or goodies will change that.

No great shakes?

Roy Scheider playing major bad ass
+
coolest helicopter ever on film
+
Blade Runner-ish score
+
yet another generic Malcolm McDowell villain (wait, scratch that one)
+
sweet aerial action
=
One good time

But I'm still not paying more than $10 for it.

I'd still like to get my hands on the score album. I originally owned it on LP, and haven't seen it reprinted yet. Yes, LP. I'm that old.

Major bad ass? Hardly.

I like to think bigger. The Enterprise is a thing of beauty. Blue Thunder's a helicopter.

It didn't stick. I can't recall if it was done by Vangelis or someone trying to imitate Vangelis. It can't be that great. Besides, Blade Runner's score is even more Blade Runnerish.

It is to weep. Alex, Alex, Alex. What were you thinking, ya eunuch jelly thou?

Seen it lately?

I don't regret renting it. It was good for a laugh or two.

You have chosen . . . wisely.

Last week. Dig it a lot. Could do with a remake, actually. I'd say it could be quite relevant today.

The score sounds nothing like BLADE RUNNER though.

...if they could of nabbed Ernest Borgnine before that 'OTHER' chopper series I would of agreed with you!

...also, don't knock Cage's 'Fire Bird'/'Wings of the Apache' for its got almost as much cheese...it may not be Blue Stilton...but dammit, it's a solid Chedder!

Yeah, but like, you could actually own it. And it has titty cam.

Can't argue that.

Er... what?

I watched the trailer lately. Sure it's dated, but it's still pretty neat. I like how our hero directs a missile into a crowded office building.

Well, the tone is at least similar. Synthy and ominous.

The pilot movie is pretty cool, but after that Airwolf really lost its teeth.

I've not seen that one, but it sure looks cool.

Me too. You don't see that very often these days.

When compared to A CLOCKWORK ORANGE then McDowell is indeed slumming in BLUE THUNDER. But then his work in BLUE THUNDER looks like A CLOCKWORK ORANGE when compared to MOON 44 and CLASS OF '99.

Ah. I have seen Clockwork, but only once and years ago so I don't remember all of the finer points.

Blue Thunder is far from the worst of McDowell's generic villain turns though.

If you can sit through Star Trek: Generations and still think McDowell was slumming in Blue Thunder, then you have forgiveness issues.

And the score is not remotely Blade-Runner-like. It's actually a pretty cool orchestral-synthesizer blend, and the action cues were pretty exciting to listen to. Between this and Wargames, I thought Rubinstein was going to go somewhere. Alas, he simply went away.
