You crazy, mang! The movie only shifts into high gear when the phone salesman goes on his almighty quest for vengeance. And brings his dog.

Er... wow. I hope I haven't acted too Doug-like in our brief interactions over the last few months. If so, sorry.

Aren't smokers usually the ones that get killed? You know, along with the drinkers and sexually active?

Ditto on the dropframe garbage. It's lazy technique that does nothing but provide distraction and to make it look like a Tool video. Same goes for the shaky camera and zooming for no damn good reason.

As for the kid being a lousy shot, I gurantee, if I had a louded pistol in my hand and crazies were assaulting my family I would be more than able to blow their fucking brains out. I know why it was down, provide some tension and not to dispatch the baddies too early, but it didn't work for me. It just made the kid look like a whuss.

Smoking pot is for fucktards.

I dug the hell out of this movie, and am very glad that the horror market has shifted more to the harder R style over the PG-13 Kevin Williamson fare. Sure, they're remakes for the most part, and some of them flat out suck (The Fog, Texas Chainsaw Massacre), but I'll take Hostle, Hills Have Eyes, and Dawn of the Dead over Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Disturbing Behavior any day. But back on track, I really enjoyed the DVD (especially the shotgun suicide), but for the life of me, I can't remember the breast feeding scene. How the hell did I miss that? When was it, and what was so disturbing about it?

SPOILERS (Duh!)...

During the mutant raid on the trailer, one of the mutants holds a gun to the baby's head while the other mutant gets up to various lascivious shenanigans, including--but not limited to--using Doug's wife as a cream dispenser. For whatever reason, I found this to be more disturbing than Claire's rape. But to answer your question, I can't fathom how you could've have missed it. It immediately precedes her stabbing the mutant in the foot with the screwdriver.

It was cut from theatrical.

Finally saw this on DVD. I dug it. It wasn't a great film, but it was well-done and enjoyable. The mutants being monstruous and the whole War on Terror allegory added to it. Definetely not one of those useless remakes. I look forward to seeing more from Aja.
