Dvd's that you own that are out of print, and have gotten for cheap

Sorry if there's already a thread like this, but I figured that I'd start a thread about dvds that are rare and oop that have been gotten for cheap or just plain dvd's that you have gotten for cheap like criterions that I've found for under 20 bucks.

I found the Flash Gordon Image disc for 9.99 at a gamestop. I used my discount and got it for just under 10 dollars.

Swamp Thing Region 1 Recalled version from England off of ebay for 18 bucks.

Robocop Criterion for 17.99 at Hastings.

Dvd's that I've gotten for cheap are the Seven Samurai Criterion for 12.99 at another gamestop, and Red Dragon special 2 disc edition, and the Traffic criterion 2 disc for 17.99 each at a liquidation sale at a wherehouse music.

Just got Se7en 2-disc off ebay for about $13 CDN shipped.

Years ago, at my local mall, a music store that was going out of business was having a close out sale. As I was browsing their smallish DVD section I noticed that they actually had the recalled edition of Little Shop of Horrors with the alternate ending. $19.99 sticker price with 30% off. And this was quite some time after it was recalled too.

While I don't own it, I've been kicking myself for not picking up the DVD of Condorman when it came out a couple years ago. A favorite flick of mine as a kid, I saw it at Target and blew it off for a later purchase, assuming it would still be there. When I went back it was gone.

Apparently it was a short run and isn't available except on Ebay for usually close to $100.

This doesn't count as a DVD, but my mom bought a VHS copy of The Phantom Tollbooth at suncoast, and was told that it was the very last copy. In print. Let me repeat: the very LAST copy that the company produced.

Let's see:

Robocop: Criterion Collection
The Wages of Fear: Criterion (first release)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Metal Slip Cover)
Master and Commander: 2 Disc Set (not OOP, but I got it for 14 bucks new.)
Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth (Not sure if this is OOP, but I've been told that it's a bitch to find.)

There's more, but I don't feel like mentally exerting myself enough to remember what's OOP or not.

Stunned that I picked up the now-$55 edition of "Fando Y Lis" when it was available.

I also have the Terminator 2 Ultimate edition flipper disc that came out in 2001 I got it for 19.99 at Wal-Mart when they lowered the price from 39.99! I heard that this copy is one of the ones that is getting dvd rot. Luckily my copy is still good. Must be this Texas weather.

One dvd that I've been kicking myself about is that Split Second dvd with Rutger Hauer, I saw it just last year at the Barnes and Nobles, for 19.99, but I didn't get it because it was in full-screen. Now it goes for astronimical prices on e-bay. I wonder why?

The Rock OOP Criterion and Snow White Platinum for 10 bucks each at Replays, a trade-in shop near campus. Perfect condition. I guess the guys running the place don't follow DVD asking prices.

I found the two-disc edition of Big Trouble in Little China at a Circuit City for less than $20. Shamefully, I feel a certain small pride in having rooted it out.

I was able to get the Series Experimental Lain DVD Metal Lunchbox set at an FYE a couple of years ago... retail price was $120 but I knew at the time it was selling for $300 on EBAY.

Now you can't even find it on ebay. Its my only prize possession.

I got this when it came out in 2001 at a best buy, and when I opened it, i had a shock, that I've never had since. There were two discs of the feature! Someone in the factory, must have made a mistake and put 2 copies of the movie one on top of the other. So in a way, mine is a 3-disc set.

Anyone else ever get an extra disc like this?

Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition for 20 bucks at a used dvd place.

The Chinese Connection and Fists of Fury combined for 4 bucks.

The two-disc "Army of Darkness". I believe it's out of print. Sure, the movie has been released several times since, but this version didn't last long. Bought when it was first released in 1999 for about $20.

Not a DVD, but the only version available is a Japanese laserdisc copy of "Terror in the Aisles." Great stuff, roughly $20 for it.

I've never gotten one like that, but I've seen it happen. I work at a vhs/dvd manufacturing/packaging factory. Sometimes the discs are sticky when they come out of screen-printing. And they stick together. And a lot of people who work there don't care if an extra disc is in one case.

Yeah, I've got that one also.

I guess the only one that immediately comes to mind is "Meatballs". I bought it for $9.99 (I think) when it first came out, and now it's out of print and selling for $20-$50 on eBay, last time I checked. And I've got the T2 edition with the metal slip-cover, and the Total Recall Mars tin (although you can find those now for like $5 in some places). I did see (but didn't pick it up) the "Ice Pick" edition of Basic Instinct in the Wal Mart "2 for $11" bin one time.

Bruce Vs. Army of Darkness boomstick edition..the OOP and currently definitive release of AOD. Fight Club 2 disc..I think this one was actually re-released late last year. The Terminator SE is actually out of print now, but not entirely difficult to find in stores. Don't order online though, because the new bare bones DVD has the same SKU(same deal with the new bare bones Rocky disc). Day of the Dead 2 disc SE is also OOP but not difficult to find in stores with a little patience.

Hard Boiled - Criterion Collection. I got it on eBay for around $20. That was a real find.
Alien Quadrilogy for $31.00, also on eBay.
