Chewing Chewers: Misc. Candies Thread

New or old, don't matter. Seems to me, though, like the candy moguls release more and more new candies with greater frequency. Opine on these oddities here.

Sweetarts Rope - Tastes like God if He were put in candified form, but likely rots your teeth worse than a beaker of sulfuric acid. But DELICIOUS like no one's business.

Xtreme Skittles Gum - Tasty, but why gum? Make these a regular Skittles pack and then we'll talk.

Flavored Kit-Kat (i.e. Orange, Cherry, Mint, etc.) - What the hell? Kit Kat's were perfect because they were so simple. These are weird and unpleasing.

New Necco Candy Hearts - This recipe is not new to this year, but the classic candy conversational hearts aren't as chalky and tasteless as even four years ago. Softer in material and slightly more flavorful, they are now fairly palatable.

Best candy bar that I ever ate was the Willy Wonka Scrunch bar. It's been years since this even existed, so my memory of it may be a bit jumbled, but I do remember it was heavenly. Pretty sure it was peanut butter, rice crispies and caramel covered in chocolate. It's one of only two former junk products that I miss. The other being Taco Bell's old Taco Lites.
Now, mainly, the only candy bar that I'll seek out now and then is the Reese's Nutrageous.

Give me frozen Sour Patch Kids and a nice glass of milk. Sounds weird, but very good. Red Vines are my movie food of choice. I haven’t seen any new candies that do much for me.

My favorite chocolate bar of the moment is Take 5. Easy win.

My favorite chocolatier is probably Ghiardelli.

Jelly Belly. Gotta love all the bizarre flavors.

Of course the Kusagai Japanese gummy candies you get at the Asian market are the greatest.

I don't get the trend of packaging candy coated sugar free mint gum in a foil bubble pack as if it was cold medicine. The pieces are so wimpy and you only get a few in each pack.

Speaking of gum, I'm a big fan of Orbitz but Trident Cool Rush is the best.

And this isn't candy, but Peanut Butter Oreos are sooo tasty.

The Reggie Jackson candy bar was the best Baby Ruth knockoff I've ever had. It was shaped like a Goo-Goo Cluster.

The dark chocolate M&Ms that came out with Revenge of the Sith were fantastic, but I don't think they're available now.

Caramel Hershey's Kisses.

I have a problem with Fruit Roll-Ups these days. What happened to regular flavors like cherry and strawberry? I bought a box a few weeks ago, and they had tattoos for your tongue on the roll-ups and came in new "extreme" flavors. They really don't taste like natural fruit anymore. For healthy "candy" I go with fruit leather.

Strawberry Pocky. Couldn't get more addictive if it was sold in vials on the street.

My taste for chocolate covered candy bars has waned over the years, so it's come down to PayDays in that department.

My love of giant Reese's Cups is eternal, though.
Love me some Big Kat -- it's like a giant irradiated Kit Kat that escaped and is terrorizing the candy aisle.

And Peanut Butter M&Ms kick the crap out of Reese's Pieces.

Shut your filthy mouth.

I'm with Zeus. The Take 5 is currently the best mix of sweet-n-salty in candy bar form.
The Butterfinger Crisp and the Snickers Crunch are probably my favorite candy bars, and I loved the little Wonka Bar with the graham crackers. Soooo delicious - but it hurt my teeth.

I'm a candy freak but haven't been indulging too much recently as Hubby is on a low sugar diet.

Fave chocolate bar: Hershey's w/Almonds (but I'll pretty much eat anything out there)
Tart candy: love the stuff, Skittles (regular flavors and sour), Starburst, Mambo, those tangy ribbons they sell in bulk at the candy stores that come in Grapefruit and sour apple, Spree, Sweettarts, Shocktarts...mmmmm

So, someone please tell me, what is Sweetart Rope and Strawberry Pocky?
The Giant Reese's is the best. So much delicious peanut butter!!!

Take Fives are awesome, too.

That Wonka Scrunch Bar sounds a lot like a Whatchamacallit to me.

But my eternal love goes to the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and its children.

Reese's Piece: o
Peanut Butter M&M: O

Wins on size and, therefore, more peanut butter content.
But the flavor of the peanut butter is so much better with the Reese's.
Excellent candy review site. She even does really obscure ones.

I love the Take Five and Butterfinger. Any PB/Chocolate combo works for me. Therefore I must concur with Mr. Dickson on PB M&Ms. From my childhood I love the Marathon Bar. The best Reese's product is without a doubt the Fast Break.

For mints/hard candies anything Altoids (except the gum).
And pocky is a Japanese thing. They're little pretzel sticks coated with various flavors.
Oh God, those strawberry things, with the strawberry wrapper, they were hard candies, cough drop shaped. My K-5 years was spent trying to accumulate as many strawberry things as possible.

Coincidentally, if anyone can find where I could purchase those online, I'd be eternally indebted.

Anything dark chocolate works for me. I love Mounds and Dove bars. I was lucky enough to find some of the dark chocolate Star Wars M&Ms a few weeks ago at Wal-Mart. They were always sold out last summer so I never got to try them. Needless to say, I stocked up.
I always enjoyed Pop Rocks.

Though they did make me soil myself once (thrice) when I thought my tongue was being electrocuted.

RE: M&M's vs. Pieces. Quality over quantity I say.

And the Fast Break: Saaay whaat? The Fast Break is one of the worst candy bars ever. It's like the geniuses at Reese's couldn't handle the pressure of making one amazing product after another so they consciously decided to make something horrible.

I'm a big fan of Reese white chocolate peanut butter cups, they're a guaranteed mouth orgasm.

Kinder Bueno's are also awesome.
Nerds Ropes are great. As is a Snickers microwaved 18 seconds (eat it with a fork).

Peanut Butter Twix are heavenly.
A really lame bar in my neighborhood does deep fried Snickers and its very good.

The peanut butter taste over powered the chocolate for me but I couldn't taste the difference.

But I once knew a girl who was a guaranteed mouth orgasm. She validated my masculinity.
Anyone tried the new Reese's with Caramel? I went nuts over that little circle of deliciousness.

PS- White chocolate Reese's and Kit Kats are pretty frigging great.
Has anyone here ever had "Violets"? They look like double-wide Pez and taste and smell exactly like soap, but somehow I end up buying a pack every few years or so.

Necco wafers

Does anyone else eat these? I've never seen anyone else buy them, but they'be been around for decades.....or longer.

You should check the expiration date next time you go buy some. Aren't those on a par with twinkies?

Good ol' fashioned peanut M&M's for me.
milky way/three musketeers are the ultimate candy bar.

after that, kit kats and dairy milk (in their respective british versions, which are SO much better). preferably straight from the fridge.
I'm not big on chocolate. Fire Hot Tamales and Lemonheads are my candy of choice.

I am vindicated on my Scrunch Bar theory! After searching the net for possible info on Scrunch bars, I ran across this excerpt from a Johnny Depp interview.

"What's tastier, Mr. Wonka: Scrumdidilyumptious Bars or Everlasting Gobstoppers?

Scrumdidilyumptious Bars. But there's one even better, the Willy Wonka Scrunch Bar. They don't make it anymore. It was just unbelievable. If I have anything to do with it, the Scrunch Bar will be coming back--with my mug on it. Why not?"

Yeah. Let's see some celebrity quotes to back up YOUR favorite candy bar claims. I bet you can't even get a quote from Orlando Bloom to back up your candy bar. Not even a Leland Orser. I've got Johnny Depp, bitches!

Don't you ignore my Depp endorsement, you bastard. Gobstoppers are the Wonka stepchild. Don't gloss over that. You check back in when you have a Gobstopper endorsement from Clooney or Pitt.

To be fair, Pocky is more like hard biscuit sticks, Pretz are the pretzel-style. And the apple-flavored Pretz is awesome sauce as are the Salad Pretz.
I've heard tell of Dulce de Leche M&M's, but have never found them. I've been told I can go to a Latino market to get them, but so far I haven't found one here.
Also, this isn't candy, but the Chips Deluxe fudge stripes with caramel chips are nine kinds of great. Highly recommended.
For the record, I am Pro-Reese's with caramel. Good shit.

I have to say, I've been missing these cartoon strips.

So very funny, fattie.

I'm still strongly in the Swedish Fish camp.

I have a special love of Special Edition Kit Kats. The white chocolate one is tops (and has migrated to permanent status) but other good ones have been Orange Creme, triple chocolate, and even coffee. In Japan, it's even more insane. Grape, Lemon Creme, Key Lime Pie, Port Wine, Naked (just wafers and filling), Banana, etc.

Edit: Go here to see all the special edition flavors of this classic candy.

My friend brought Green Tea Kit-Kats from Japan a few months ago, and they were the best ones I ever had.
They now make Special Edition Elvis Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that have odd banana flavored stuff at the bottom of them.
They're awful. It's a hard, waxy banana "flavored" emulsion, not a creamy banana filling, which might hve worked.

Dark chocolate kit kats are amazing.
RIESEN.
Probably my favorite chocolate and/or caramel candy ever. Especially if they've been in the fridge for a bit.
Riesen is a bag of goodness. Those things are like little vials of crack.

However, my current favorite is Abba-Zaba. When I can find a place that sells them relatively fresh (unlike the $.99 store that sells them hard as a rock) I stoc up like I'm a bear about to hibernate.
I kind of like candy corn even though they often have the consistency of wax.
Yes, but they're delicious wax. I love candy corn.

Another favorite has always been Baby Ruth bars and Skor bars - that lovely piece of toffee coated in chocolate.
I've always been partial to zero bars. Them and Reese's PB cups are manna from above.
I love Sour Patch Kids. I actually avoid theaters if I discover they carry some knock off (like Sour Jacks) instead of the real deal.

Although I did almost choke to death in a theater on them one time. The guy in front of me actually turned around and shushed me as I was struggling to breathe.
I'm actually partial to the watermelon Sour Patch candies, but the regular ones, not so much.
You can take those Sour Jacks back where you found them, and then fuck your mother.
