NASCAR Daytona 500/02.19.06

I know this is just tantamount to me willfully presenting my ass for an anal train-raping sans lube, but I wanted to know if there's at least one of you besides myself that's eagerly awaiting the wave of the green flag, come 1:00PM today.

All of you NASCAR hating miscreants, I've already assumed the position...

"All aboard!"

I am interested in watching the race today. The super speedways are the few races of the season that I will watch all the way through, or at least keep on. It is more of a superbowl atmosphere though. We watch the race, have some friends over and set up a buffet.

I wasn't able to watch an entire race like that until I myself started racing (albiet in one of the minor minor leagues-Mini Cup) about a decade ago. After you have done it yourself for a while you can appreciate the strategy and not look at it guys just going in circles around the track.

Im with you. My wife and I freely admit we are Nascar fans. If people want to prejudge and anally rape us for it, we relly don't give a shit. It is much more than just cars going round in circles. So yeah, I can't wait for the race.

Green flag drops at 2:30, so don't warm up those Lean Pockets too early.

I'm just hoping Dale Jr. doesn't drive like a total retard this season, because I've got him on my fantasy team this weekend.

The 500 isn't even close to being one of the best races of the season. It's much more an event than an actual exciting race since the restrictor plates are totally contradictory to the purpose of a 500 mile race, which should be endurance and strategy, but has instead become a crap-shoot about who manages to avoid most problems.

What's with these 5 hour long pre-race shows? I remember when the races used to start at about 1pm. Now they all start at 2:45 or 3pm.

Anyways, I'll be pulling for my man Jeff Gordon but it's doubtful he'll take it home today. But as long as he finishes in the top five, I'll be happy. It'd be cool to see someone unexpected win.

Even my friends who aren't fans loved this race last year, and of course, I was thrilled as my boy won it in dramatic fashion for the third time.

I watched as a wee little shaver back in the days of Richard Petty, but I didn't watch it for years until coming back to it in 2001. Since then I haven't missed a single race, even attending four Talladega races in that time. Jeff Gordon didn't win any of those, but I got to see Jr. win 3 of them, and that was really cool.

I'd have to thank Papyrus/Sierra for being instrumental in rejuvinating my interest, as I've played their sim series since the release of NASCAR 4. I myself used to make the typical "They're just a bunch of in-bred rednecks making a perpetual left-hand turn." jokes, but after I got really good at running the sim online, I realized how silly those statements truly are.

Todays race should be interesting, since NASCAR officials have apparently made bump-drafting illegal. I'm sure everyone will honor this new rule, for a lap or two.

I know NBC is broadcasting it today, but I just have to say it:
"Boogity Boogity Boogity! Let's go racing boys!"

"You're watching NASCAR on NBC!"

"No I'm not. I'm watching commercials on NBC with a little bit of NASCAR."

I don't think NASCAR made bump drafting illegal since you can't really avoid doing it. But they said they'll keep an eye on it and make sure no one gets crazy with it like Kyle Busch was during the Bud Shoot-out.

I think Tony's an excellent driver when he chooses to be, and I like him for the most part, but it looks like he's wasting no time in exhibiting his bratty ways in refusing to be accountable for any track incidents he's involved in. He could have easily lifted when Jeff got tight in the turn and kept them both safely out of the wall without losing much position wise, but instead he kept it floored and jacked both their cars up in the process. Jeff admitted it was a 50/50 deal, Tony claims it's 100% on Jeff.

No surprise there, just typical Stewart behavior, blame the other guy.

I'd really love to see Mark Martin win this one now.

Yeah! I'm so happy Jimmie Johnson won. Disapointed with Jeff Gordon's results but when you loose third gear at this type of track you're pretty much screwed. Espcially when there's a late race restart. I don't agree with NASCAR's call on Kyle Busch when he pushed Stewart considering Stewart did it to him. And wow, did you see all that bullshit flowing of Stewart's mouth post-race?

Best Quote of the Race: "Ah, that's too bad." - Kurt Busch, after seeing Jamie McMurray wrecking.

Johnson's an ass.

How so? 'Cause he dedicated the win to all the people who don't like the #48 team?

"I knew deep down inside my heart that this team could still win this race. There's no doubt that not having Chad here was a huge handicap, but everybody stepped up. I am just so proud of this team.'' - Jimmie Johnson. And proud he should be. This team deserved this win. It seems whenever something bad happens to the team they always step up and answer the call. They been in the hunt for the championship every year since Johnson started in the Cup series and they should've taken it home in 2004. No one is a bigger ass then Tony Stewart or Kurt Busch.

Jimmie ran a good race, too bad the win carries an asterisk in some peoples minds. Jeff and the 24 team are up to the task this year, and they can bounce back from this poor finish in no time. Jeff loves California.

Jr. was really strong all day, and I expect he'll stay that way for the rest of the season. Ryan Newman finishes *3rd* at Tona!? Good for him! Glad to see Casey Mears, and Elliot Sadler in the top 5 as well.

Obviously,Tony hasn't grown up as much as he'd like us to believe. Let's hope he can behave himself at Fontana, and keep his foot out of his mouth in the process.

Oh, just me being bitter. Johnson drove a well-played race and was about the only cool-headed driver out there all night, but I don't like him.
It seemed odd to me that the announcers and nearly everyone else talked about the absense of Johnsons crew chief like it were some kind of somber moment and he was triumphing over adversity or something by winning anyway. Not once did they mention the fact that he wasnt at the race because he was caught cheating...again. I get them not wanting to make a big deal of it since its bad press for Nascar, but they spent the whole time talking about him like his absense was in some way noble.

Man, could not believe how quickly Tony Stewart reverted to his 13-year-old-in-a-tantrum persona. And even though he was driving like an idiot, Nascar penalised Kyle Busch and left him alone. Well, good race for Jimmie.
