Saw 2 Rentals

I work at Blockbuster and I'm amazed at the audience of this movie. Obviously it's a big movie with teens but most of the people renting it are married couples, in their late 30's. Couples that would normally pick up "Just Like Heaven" or "In Her Shoes".

Have gore flicks gone completely mainstream?

Lots of people just rent "new" movies, regardless of what they're about.

Yup. Although if they're looking for a gore movie they'd be sadly disappointed. Such a lame film.

Is it a gore film? I classify it as a pile of shit film. That's its genre.

Sorry. I never saw it, so I'm just going on what my friends have said.

Saw 2 is shit. I rented it because I was in the mood for a bad horror rental weekend, which I feel is necessary now and then. It was the worst out of the pack of it, Gingerdead Man and House of 9. Absolutely horrible. Yet, still probably better than the first Saw. As absolutely shitty as it is, even a hack like Frankie G can out act what Danny Glover did in the first one.
Anyway, since when were couples in their mid to late 30's not allowed to rent horror films? There really is no age limit on liking horror films. My wife and I are in our mid-thirties, as I know many horror fans are. People my age grew up on Creature Feature type late night horror shows, saturday afternoon horror movies and the Halloween/Friday the 13the/Nightmare on Elm Street beginings. The 80's was a, mostly bad, horror heyday. Horror is in our blood, guy.
Sorry, but that happy ass, suburban Walmart, have a kid, go to church and become part of the corporate/PTA hive mentality sets in on some people in their early twenties. That means renting anything in the new release section. I worked in a video store once and we did experiments. No matter what we stuck in the new release section on weekends, it would rent. Teenagers to senior citizens.

Hold the phone! You have seen GINGERDEAD MAN? Those beans need spilling post haste.

Yes, need to hear about the Busey.

Unfortunately, it's not as entertaining as it should be. It's too short to be a TV show. The gore is bad. The story is lamer than you think it is. Gary Busey is weird, but too tame for something like this. It's all idea and no execution. Still, a bad cookie puppet, the general idea and Gary Busey even being included is better than Saw 2. I hate to say it, but Gingerdead Man is not worthy of a rental.

The Saw movies are maybe the most disappointing films in recent horrordom. The original film is all good idea with nothing else to go with it. There's a few minutes of good atmosphere and execution, but that's it. Saw 2 has better acting, direction and formulation, yet, that's not a compliment in any way. It also has a better twist ending, in only that it was possible to see it coming from a logical standpoint. The twist to the first Saw was dumb and cheap. Saw 2 was just dumb. Saw 2 is a worse sequel than I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

I will swallow my pride and say something:
I own Saw 2.

Its dumb and shitty, but it makes a great party movie and also maybe because the girlfriend also wanted to see it.

If it's dumb and shitty, and somehow makes a great party movie, does that make the party dumb and shitty? I'm confused.

The first SAW made me want to hurl objects at the screen, if this were at a party and I had been drinking, I probably would have done so.

Mostly for the shock factor. Its like watching a Jason film, its bad, but sooo bad its entertaining. We watched Catwoman and took a shot everytime we heard a meow (it didn't help that the owner of the house owned a cat).
I have to say - I'm more shocked at all the Saw 2 buyals.
I own both Saw films and am not at all ashamed.
As do I. They're not the greatest horror films ever made, but they are fun puzzle movies, trying to figure out what's going on. And anyone who says Saw II is a worse sequel than I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is bullshitting and pandering to the crowd.

Puzzle movies? For those with Downs, perhaps.
Jigsaw puzzle. Get it? Jig-

oh, never mind.

the first saw pretty much sucked so i don't know why anyone expected this one to be any better. that being said, i finally rented it yesterday and, while pretty bad, i don't think it was as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

and if you look at the box office, all types were obviously going to see it in the theatre, so why would it be surprising that all types would rent it?

horror has always been mainstream. just like any other genre...but it is a genre that also easily accomodates the non-mainstream.

Fixed.

Saw II was utter shit, save for the hypodermic needle scene.

People rent anything that's new.
