The Best of BOND; Let's get this over with - Page 184

I actually think the PTS car chase from QOS was the best thing about the  movie. Its the only thing that felt connected to the greatness that was CR.

I loved that car chase, but I know that taking up it's cause is a losing argument with most people.

Anyway I'm just reading Live and Let Die for the first time, one of the few Bond novels I'd never gotten to (the shadow of Roger Moore kept me away for years). In the book Bond is able to identify Marijuana by scent alone. Can we take this to mean Bond has partaken at some point?

It's looking more and more likely that Adele truly will be recording the song for Skyfall.

And if what I've heard is true Thomas Newman worked with her on the song. Recording was done about a month ago and the music editor already said he finished working it into the film. It seems that EON is intent on releasing this later to avoid the song being leaked like what happened with "You Know My Name" and "Another Way to Die", so either expect it later this month or early October. I suppose the confirmation on who sung it and the song itself will be released very closely together.

I believe Bond says in one of the books (maybe that one) that he's a fan of the Ink Spots... So, he's hep.

Not really hep. In MOONRAKER he refers to marijuana as "instantly addictive."

And so far all you have is The Sun saying Adele is fucking around Abbey Road Studios. If there's more, then publish or perish!

As there people that don't know marijuana by smell?

Speaking from his own experience, perhaps? rolleyes.gif

And I hope it's not Adele, but if it is, I definitely won't be listening to the track early. I want to experience it fresh with the title sequence. I'm so psyched Daniel Kleinman is back.

Same here, on both counts.

Yeah, I'm not even going to bother writing up an article about it until EON issues a press release.  The Sun and others just have way too much fun publishing rumors for me to consider otherwise.

That should be interesting.

I havent seen SNL in like 20 years, but if Craig is hosting i may actually watch.

A great line from the opening of Live and Let Die which I'm now reading says that in the life of a secret agent, there are moments of great luxury, that Bond "takes refuge in good living to efface the memory of danger and the shadow of death".That pretty much perfectly sums up Bond's character. Kudus, Mr. Fleming.

Since Craig is hosting, I hope they bring back Darrell Hammond to do his Connery impression. Those SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skits are some of the funniest bits SNL has ever done.

Strangely enough i am not really that excited for SKYFALL. I'll watch it but i expect it to be another Mission Impossible type adventure.

Anyone here feel the same way?

I'm jazzed for it, as I am for all Bond movies. Skyfall seems to have some terrific ideas in it, but even a shit Bond movie, I know I'll enjoy it at least once.

But after that, all bets are off. I'm really not into Quantum of Solace, I've discovered. It's painful, because I really believe everything it needs to be at least a solid Bond picture is present, but it's got to be the worst directed film in the franchise. Just a mess, with my least favorite action scenes in forever. They're just cut to incomprehensible shit, to the point where I'm eager for them to end the second they start, palpably.

You've touched it with a needle, Arjen... All the Bond elements in QOS are there, they just don't work together. Although clearly the problems start at the script/structural stage. The directing and editing choices are just the dark drizzle over the shit pie of the story.

I hated the shooting of the action sequences. But i thought plotwise QOS was a fit continuation of CASINO ROYALE. Bond has to find closure with his feelings for Vesper and Mathis. Also we learn more about Quantum as well. The fact that Bond never sleeps with Camile was a nice touch. He got other matters on his mind this time (I think they threw in Gemma Arterton just to make up for the sex requirement).

The final 007 Legends level will be the Fort Knox attack from Goldfinger!

Nope, I'm ecstatic.  In a Fall/Winter release schedule filled with the likes of The Master, Argo, Looper, Seven Psychopaths, Killing Them Softly, The Hobbit: Part One, Cloud Atlas, Lincoln, etc.............Skyfall is still #2 on my most-anticipated releases for the rest of 2012.

Nice!  When does it come out?

Mid-Oct. I believe...

Here's a nice article, and about a larger issue than a Bond movie. http://blogs.indiewire.com/pressplay/from-russia-with-love-is-not-unsophisticated-you-are

Agree with this - although QOS is salvaged for me by the opening car chase sequence (yes, it's horribly edited but it's still the most visceral car action scene I can think of from a Bond film, introduced by that lovely tracking shot over the lake, and the sound mix is awesome), the interplay with Mathis and the whole opera section. In fact those latter scenes belong in a much better Bond film and, to a certain extent, hint at the possibilities when you marry Bond with a more ambitious visualist.

...better?

...love that new PPK (but as someone else stated, there will probably be a scene where someone points it at Bond and ...'click, click, click' - not assigned to their handprint and Bond will off them somehow)

I dunno. The expression on his face says "Ughh, I just want to get this photo shoot over so I can go home, fire up a grilled cheese sandwich, & watch my stories".

Has there ever been a great poster for a Bond movie though? They're almost all James Bond standing in front of that inside of a gun barrel.

Well, except for this one, of course.

For me this is probably the last great theatrical poster (not including teasers, as the one for CR was great).

I'm partial to the '70s Moore posters. Here's Bob Peak at his, er, peak:

The Quantum of Solace poster where Bond is walking over the horizon was pretty damn good. He's holding the same machine gun from the end of Casino Royale, and the juxtaposition between his crisp, well tailored suit and the harsh environment around him (not to mention the giant gun he's holding up) makes for a reasonably iconic image of Agent 007.

Wow! That looks absolutely awful while at the same time it's a thing of absolute beauty.

I hate it.

I love it.

The world needs more batshit kitchen-sink posters like this. Notice the little WetBike filigree at the top?

Also, I can't get enough of those loafers he's wearing.

A few of the pre-1970 posters were pretty awful too:

Thunderball had Connery flying a jetpack AND posing non-chalantly for camera as if he were leaning against a wall! With a gun!

OHMSS had Lazenby (rhymes with Laser Beam) skiing AND posing non-chalantly for camera as if he were leaning against a wall! With a gun!

YOLT had Connery in "Little Nelly"'s silly helmet. Probably posing non-chalantly for camera as if he were leaning against a wall (even though he's sitting down). With a gun! Probably.

Don't forget the Avenging Space Jesus variant for Moonraker:
