THE AMAZING RACE - Season 9 on ABC

I noticed a new season was to start tonight. There were other shows my TiVo wanted to record (Scrubs and The Shield), so it looks like I will be breaking out the old VCR in order to catch this and American Idol.

Anyone catch the premiere? What were your thoughts?

I caught the first half of the show (with The Shield being as great as it's been the past few weeks, I couldn't bare to wait for the 10 o'clock showing) and found it to be just as enjoyable as previous seasons (let us never speak of the Family edition). Gotta love the Hippies. I have a friend that recorded the second half of the show so I'll catch up tomorrow sometime.

I tried watching it, but just couldnt get last seasons out of my head. I almost have 0 interest in it. I may continue watching it, but not going out of my way to.

This season looks to be a whole lotta fun.

-- Love the Hippies. They are by far the team to root for. They are funny and don't seem too stupid.

-- The frat boys will get annoying real fast. It's dumb luck that they ended up in first place.

-- The Southern couple is vying for Jonathan and Victoria status. Lake was obnoxious, overly hyped up, and semi-racist. He kept obsessing over the "Black" couple and seemed to know everyone's names but theirs, even though they introduced themselves at the airport. He also spent the whole time screaming at his wife.

-- The other couple from Arkansas, MoJo, was just as obnoxious. The wife is a basketcase, freaking out about every small detail that could possibly go wrong in the race, and the husband is very condescending toward her.

-- The Mom and daughter team is fun to watch. I have a feeling they won't fare to well in really physical challenges though.

-- The girls from Staten Island won't last long, but they make for good TV. NYC represent!

-- The Chicago couple, aka the "Black" team, seem the most level headed. I'm surprised the woman was able to keep calm at the motorcycle shop with all those Brazilian guys catcalling the whole time. I would have thrown lugnuts at them. It should be interesting to see how this couple holds up because were in a long distance relationship before this race and have spent very little time physically with each other.

-- The nerd couple is obnoxiously in love. Every shot of them is them sucking face. We get it, you two are perfect for each other. Now stop lip locking and play the game.

-- The elderly couple is okay. The husband seems pretty cool, but the wife is annoying. She complained about everything. The best is when they walked right past the clue box several times and then after they found it, she exclaims that "it wasn't there before". Idiot!

-- What can I say about the "Frosties"? They won't last long and it'll be for the best as my eardrums can't take much more squealing.

-- The life long friends, aka the "gay guys", seemed really out of their element. The "genie" guy whined that his friend was too calm, but in actuality he was too tense. I'm glad he overcame his fear of heights, but if they stayed in the game any longer, he might implode.

Totally agree about Lake...so annoying and inappropriate. The Frosties' screaming made me wince. Once again, more reality TV "characters" making Texas look like the annoying hicks everyone thinks we are. I despise them already.

So great to have this back and in the 2-person team format again.

I agree that this season has serious promise. In fact, I can't remember ever liking as many teams from the beginning as I do this season. The hippies are obviously the standouts, but I'm surprised how much I enjoy the mother-daughter and the two nerds.

And of course team Pink, I think I like you two best of all.

Frosties can take off any time, though, especially since I often eat dinner around air time and have trouble digesting when I hear joyous exclaimations about pissing one's self.

I'm down for the black couple, the Hippies, and the Mom and Daughter.

The Texans can crash a car and be set of fire for all I care

The best thing about this season by far is the Hippies. I love how they told the camera that they continue to do so well because they make everyone happy. Then the camera pans to them getting directions from some local in Italy as he watches in half horror, half amusement as the Hippies do a jig in front of his car. They are freaking hilarious.

Lake needs to go. He sucks so bad. I can't believe he yielded the "Double D's". They sucked and deserved to go home, but not by a yield. That just smacks of poor sportsmanship.

The "Double D's" didn't deserve to go out that way, but I am glad to see them go. Plus, they totally dropped the ball on that last challenge. Then again, it really threw a couple of other teams for a loop.

The hippies are growing on me simply due to the fact they are crazy and have been using that for their advantage.

It still grates me to see teams using locals as tour guides.

Yeah. There are a few teams that are smart enough to buy maps at the airports (or I am assuming that's when they buy them) and can navigate the streets pretty well as soon as they arrive at their destinations. Then there are other teams who just drive around in circles, completely clueless. It's a wonder these people are still in the race. And while the older couple can hold their own in navigation and generally in getting around, its astounding how many times they walk right past the clue boxes. It's a bright orange and yellow box, for Christ's sake. How do you miss it?!

I'll give the old people one... that one box was a little off the beaten path. But you're right, they're always looking around for those damn boxes.

OK, i officially hate MoJo.

Being of Sicilian descent, i was so insulted by their pure stupidity.

We need tickets to Palimino Italy, no its Pall er mo.

I wonder if Lake realizes that he's a very abusive person when it comes to his words. Bi-polar is right... He'll be screaming one second and then praising his wife the next.

Anyone still watching? This season is starting to drag. None of the people are even remotely interesting anymore, even the crazy Hippies. I can't imagine that the frat boys won't win it all.

I've completely forgotten about this show.

Apparently so has my TiVo. Weird.

Good to know I'm not missing much.

CBS moved it to Wednesdays. Don't know how that was supposed to help its already low ratings though.
Just caught up on the last few eps. Sort of fast forwarded through them all. I know the non-elimination rounds are pre-determined before the race, but what are the odds that the Hippies would get them both.
The hippies are my favorite team by far.
Good god, could CBS try to make it a little less obvious that they've fixed this to keep the hippies in the race? "Six seats just opened up" my ass.
and yet the plane was delayed and they were last.
Missed the finale, and yet I don't seem to care who won.
The hippies. But you didn't miss much. It was a pretty dull episode.

...................and dull season
I liked the season as a whole but maybe it just seemed better than it was compared to the wretched family edition. I've never enjoyed their 2 hour finales because with only 3 teams left at that point there's a lot more filler than there is in other episodes.
