Bring it.

who cares

I'm always on the lookout for new ways in which Ozzie Guillen exposes his total lack of class. He's already rubbing off on Ken Williams, so it ought to be a good year.

You, apparently.

I've already said a bit in the baseball season thread, but this promises to be an very interesting season considering the strength of the AL Central. It's hard not to feel confident after winning the World Series, but the team has only gotten better since then. I'm having a hard time finding something I'm particularly worried about.

Ken Williams hasn't class? You should read more up on the subject before making yourself sound like an idiot.

People are such PC pussies now.

Also, good to see you back, Boomstick. Maybe the start of the season will get you posting again.

Williams has long been one of the classiest figures in the game, which is why his recent outburst was so out of character and disappointing.
Disappointing how? Frank hasn't shut up since he left. They tried to ignore him. Hell, they tried to contact him, but Frank is notorious for not returning calls to the team. He finally crossed the line and Williams put him in his place.

Williams has NEVER been afraid to speak his mind. That's been true since before Ozzie was around. You can only do so much before he's going to go after you, and I'm glad he's like that. It's rather the attitude of the team - don't take shit from anybody.
Frank's a world-class dick, I'm not denying that. I just think Williams should have continued to take the high road on it. With all the profanity and everything, I just thought he kind of demeaned himself. Still, it may have been the last straw, and he might have just snapped. I guess I can't really fault him for that.

I'll shut up now and let you guys go back to Sox-talk. I agree that they've improved an already excellent team and look extremely strong for 2006.

I guess I really don't understand how upset people can get when they hear athletes and/or people who've been involved with sports their whole lives say a few curse words. It's the language of sports. Hell, it's the language of business. And there's nothing wrong with that. We use the words every day and when we get pissed off, we use them even more. It's especially true when two people are argueing with each other.

Jerry Manuel used to get steaming pissed when an umpire would swear while they were arguing a call or something. He'd get so pissed he would eventually get ejected. After the game, he would explain that the umpire sweared at him, and people would accept that as a reasonable excuse. So, swearing is terrible, but yelling and screaming at someone until you're ejected is okay? That's the weird sort of dynamic that I can't understand.

There's no need to shut up. Sports conversations are boring without arguement.

Jerry Owens is going to make a run for the centerfielder job. He certainly started off well today with one of the just three hits the Sox had - a triple - and scored the only run.

damn it, you got me, hell, i'm a Reds fan, have not done anything since what, 1990?

Thanks, I'm hoping to post more, but this job is kicking my ass. Listening to the radio yesterday, and hearing a game was great.

Did you hear it? If so, what did you think of Singleton? I didn't think he was bad for a first game, but it was weird... I really miss Rooney. I grew up listening to that guy.

Good luck to recapturing the pennant; hope my Brewers meet up with you guys in the Series, been too long since we've had a Battle Royale in the Menominee Valley.

I think the Brewers are going to be awesome this year. I think they'll be the team everyone thinks Cleveland is going to be.
Yeah, people seem to be conveniently ignoring the pitching losses Cleveland had this offseason. And the guys they kept aren't really reliable. Bob Wickman is going to have a heart attack any day now. They to have a fantastic young group of offensive players, though.

I agree about the Brewers, also. That division has gone to pot quickly. The Cards and Astros just keep getting older and aren't adding any new blood to their squads. If the Cub stay healthy, they should win it, but I wouldn't be suprised to see the Brewers make a run.

Also, nice pick-up by Williams. Cintron is just another solid guy to have on the bench. They only had to give up a minor league releiver who would've had a very hard time making the team in the next year or two.

Two guys I've really taken notice of this spring... Blakely and Fields.

Crede ain't long for the team.
And it's good to see that Ryan Sweeney seems to have recovered from last year. He was considered the OF with the highest ceiling in their system a couple years ago. Hopefully, he's on his way back up.
So what do you guys think of Everetts comments the other day saying you guys wont repeat because of the teams loss in chemistry. Just sounds like a bitter guy to me. I aint exactly a Sox fan but you guys have to be the favourite to repeat in the American League. Your pitching is pretty sick. 5 quality guys whats gonna happen with Mccarthy any word yet. Is he gonna get a spot in the rotation.
McCarthy is going to be doing long relief and spot starting. He's looked pretty good this spring, but the Sox starting 5 has an ERA under 3.00 right now, so he's just going to have to wait his turn.

Carl Everett is one of those guys who likes to talk. I'll forever appreciate him for helping to win the title last year, but he's extraordinarily wrong in his assessments that Frank Thomas, Willie Harris and himself were leaders. Maybe he is bitter, but I think it's more likely he was just bored and felt like riling people up.

Nice comic some guy is doing.

Anyways, the hitting is starting to come around, which is the only concern I had. The regulars are playing more innings, but there's still a couple good looking minor leaguers hanging around. Josh Fields is making it easy for the Sox to ignore the calls of Scott Boras for a Crede contract extention, and Ryan Sweeney looks like he'll be ready to play next year.

Borchard traded to the M's for Matt Thorton. Who? What a complete bust Borchard turned out to be. Good luck in the future Joe.

I got my WS DVD set yesterday. Beautiful... I have some minor complaints, but I still love it.

Fuck... I can't wait until Sunday.
Well, that was certainly a nice way to start the year. Buerhle looked shakey and didn't seem to have the control he usually does, but McCarthy came in after the rain and shut down the tribe. I'd say they have to get him into the rotation, but now that they've got their starters all covered through 2007, that looks unlikely. Of course, I'm of the idea that the fact that all of the pitchers are signed only makes them even more valuble on the market.

I've been away from town for a week and a half, and before I left it looked like Thome wasn't going to be ready for the season. A lot has changed since then. He looks awesome.

There are a lot of people picking the Indians, but their bullpen looks really bad. Danny Graves can't throw over 90 anymore, and they were just walking everybody after Sabathia left. Still, that offense can be tough to get past.

The Indians looked aweful last night... that being said, I really think they took a step back in the off season.

The Sox look like they're picking up right where they left off... this time with more offense.

Hell of a start... 1 down... 161 to go.

I'm happy with the 10-5 start, but I'm kinda irked by the haircut fiasco.

It just doesn't seem right.

Fuckin' Thome, though... the man rules.

I love Hawk's name yelling. Last year it was, "JOE CREDE!!!" This year it's "PABLO OZUNA!!!"

This team is fun to watch.
