Hitman: Blood Money

New Trailer

For a game that isn't on next-gen consoles, this looks impressive. On the bright side, it's looking better than Hitman: Contracts, and it seems like they've expanded 47's moves. Here's hoping that the gunplay has also improved.

Cool, uh, why was the dead guy in the pool bleeding from his nether regions?

Haven't seen or heard anything so this is speculation rather than spoiler, but for some reason I see the end of this game revealing that you've been Agent 48 the whole time and your final target is Agent 47. Something about the VO in that trailer just screamed it at me. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

So it's out now. Can anybody say if it's any good. I absolutley love the series, but after the somewhat superb Hitman 2, Contracts seemed like a dip in quality. I was wondering if the series managed to get to Hitman 2's giddy heights or if it was further muddying the water.

I still love Contracts, some levels are inspired, I just find it a little duller at times than Hitman 2.

-> Nothing about 48 or other clones. The game deals with a rich man that supposedly finally managed to find and kill 47. The missions are flashbacks to earlier attempts to find him. It ends with 47's funeral.. or does it? You'll find out. Hint: press forward when the credits come.< mark to read

I played all four Hitman games and if you liked them too, you'll enjoy Blood Money quite well. It's nice to see that there are no level remakes as in Contracts, and each of the ~ 12 new levels are great playgrounds.

Not much new ground, though. Little tweaks here and there (slightly polished gfx, new weapons and animations), but more of an mission pack than a new chapter. It's an excellent addition and a good excuse for the lack of new levels in Contracts. Still no MP though.

Again there are dozens of possibilities to solve a mission and it's fun to go through Mardis Gras, a mafia wedding or a porno party, and it's interesting to find out the best ways to be silent asssassin.

I'd give it an 8 of 10.

Just played through the demo level on the 360. Seems hit or miss. Very atmospheric, fantastic music, but I did not dig the control scheme at all. They're right there, strangle them already! Is there just a steep learning curve or is this a pretty frustrating game?

I love how Blood Money seems to reward creativity in the kill. There's all kinds of options in play here, and the AI is far better than in the other games. For instance, if you try to enter a secured area, they don't get start shooting immediately, but will instead just warn you away and send your meter into yellow until you get out of sight.

Don't judge it based on the demo. The rest of the game refuses to hold your hand through each mission. They should've put the third level in as the demo instead so they could show off all the numerous ways you could complete your task.

This game also makes me act like a real digital bastard. Like shoving an enginneer into a coal furnace just because I want his shovel to kill a target. Or poisoning a sausage to feed to a little yap dog so it won't bark as I shove his owner over a railing positioned over a mountaintop. Or putting a bomb in a cake so when the target goes to munch on it, *BOOM*.

Personally, I just dig that you can Arms Akimbo your way to a successful hit.

Oops.

The big question though is this a buy or a rent? Im really starting to hope I didnt get this $400 360 just to own Oblivion.

Agree to Master Shake - the demo isn't good. Beginning with the first real level, you have free hand to do it like you want to. You can infiltrate the house as a guest, you can be a one-man-army, you can disguise as an enemy, you can make your targets have accidents, you can take them down with bombs or sniper guns, just so much to do.

And the control scheme is pretty easy. e.g. if you wanna strangle someone, you have to stand close. Also new is the feature to break people's noses with a punch and put them into submission. Very useful.

Great game, not to be missed.

the save feature turns me off, tho. i played (and enjoyed immensely) 1 & 2 but i can't remember if the save function was the same way.

I really had fun with this, sad to see it go back to the video store. One of my biggest problems with the other Hitman games was having to hide all the damn bodies, the "accident" feature (which is sweet), made that aspect much easier.

Poisoned wedding cake, exploding BBQs, drugged donuts, rigged fireworks display, falling chandeliers, pushing people over ledges/railings/down stairs/off boats, etc. Good times.

some nice sick fun to be had. Also played through the game several times...favorite level had to be the one where you infiltrate the mob guys party (one with exploding bbq). just something grin inducing about going to the treehouse, sniping piles of fbi agents, and seeing a stressed out dude in a clown outfit looking at the massacre.

That level is great. But it's a fucking weird birthday party, with no kids. I realise the shit they'd get into if they had killable kids, but they should have explained it away somehow.

Played that level twice and never new there was a treehouse snipe option. I always drugged the donuts in the catering truck, took a suit from the surveillance van guys after they ate them, and just walked right in.

You misunderstood the mission briefing. They are getting ready for the party and the kids are elsewhere (friends', shcool?). You come in and cap everyone so the kids get to come home to find all the slaughter.

I never thought about that. I just climbed the treehouse and killed everyone. Even the dog

Just been playing through this again, I'm trying to unlock the Christmas Party level in time for December, and despite being a little rough around the edges and a little last gen I'm kind of in love with the game again. I love that essentially the Hitman games are puzzle games more than anything else and the sheer ambience and feel of the levels really helps with the feel of being manipulative and strategic. I'm actually trying things different ways this time, I've used a sniper rifle on the opera level, poisoned the knicker draw on the birthday party level (also dressed up as the pool boy to murderise the wife) and done a ton of stuff I'd never thought of before.

I honestly can't wait until the next Hitman game even if Mini Ninjas and Kane and Lynch kind of burned me on IO Interactive.

If you have some free time, I recommend you listen to Rebel FM's Game Club run through of this game, the first one is here. They recorded a podcast once a week for a month while playing through it and I gotta say, it helped me get past some of the more annoying aspects of the game. (no fucking saves that stay saved when I quit? FUCK YOU.)

Also, anytime I did some slick-ass assassining that they failed to do on the 'cast, I always felt like more of a badass. Like on the boat mission and the Heaven/Hell level.
