I dare not click on that link. I will instead hang on to what sanity I have.

Starting a thread on your first post is kind of like walking into a room of complete strangers deep in conversation and then trying to change the subject. You only do it if you are rude, narcissistic, socially awkward, or selling something. A more socially aware person would scope out the lay of the land and make some contributions to existing conversations before steering things their way.

As far as intro threads go, I just think that people who start them are probably not going to fit in too well around here. It makes me think that the intro-thread posters probably haven't been lurking too long. This board isn't really a "Hi, nice to meet you, Bob!" kind of place.

Really? You think? I've seen plenty of intro threads that were merely that - intro threads ("Hi, I'm so & so, just wanted to say hi, love the site, etc.") - that have gotten wonderful responses and those people went on to be productive members of the boards. Just to use your (out of place) social comparison, I think it would be more rude for me to walk into an ongoing coversation and just jump into the middle of it without first introducing myself (which still is irrelevant because that comparison is out of place). The only "rules" around here fall into a common sense category. Stop trying to make this place such an exclusive type of "club."
