THE UNIT on CBS - Page 2

Just watched a tape of last Tuesday's ep. That's right, I said tape. I'm a broke ass bastard and can't afford Tivo, so don't even recommend it.

I like this show more and more every week. I understand some of the complaints about the wives, but I'm beginning to care about those characters as well. This was the first ep to really integrate them in a way that wasn't totally jarring with the other storyline. I like how it's becoming clear that they're not just whiny housewives, but really are part of the unit.

Plus, Scott Foley's wife, whose name escapes me right now, really gets my home fires burning. If you know what I mean. Wink wink.

Anyone else get an MI-5 vibe from this show? I think that for once an American show could learn from a British one.

I think last night's wives' storyline was the best one yet. Not the one about Brown's wife getting the internship at the radio station. The part about the fella in the wheelchair from the first episode dealing with his drug addiction and feelings of impotence, I suppose. So, it was only partially a wife angle, but still the best one so far.

The mission was also solid, but not as good as last week's. I think the show is really starting to pick up steam, though, in just about every aspect. Production value, action sequences, dramatic impact, etc. It started out slow, and they could still stand to trim down the wives' subplots, but I'm always there watching.

I watch House instead of this. I'll pick up the DVD's if it keeps going strong.

nice episode. I very much enjoyed Jonas' "you're coming in BROKEN and STUPID" to the voice on the other end of the radio, and that horrible little detail of the bleeding-to-death husband having to leave a voicemail instead of talking to his wife live because she saw "unlisted" and didn't feel like taking a marketing cold call.

the stuff with Jonas applying pressure to the dude's femoral had me cringing with its coolness... hardcore shit.

also the episode was directed by Helen Shaver. I never knew she dabbled.

I recorded last week's show and it was the first I'd seen in a few weeks. Did something already happen to Robert Patrick's character? He wasn't around in this one.

It was better than the earlier couple I'd seen. They should do more long shots during the missions because it gives those scenes a cinematic quality. The wives' stuff was a little better, mainly because they weren't just worrying about their husbands.

As usual, the "mission" was rock solid, and the wife plot was a bore. I really liked the rift between Jonas and his friend (can't remember the name). Still, I'm liking this more and more, but the whole faith thing was power crap.

that was the first truly great episode. The Shield great. and wifey business included (Kim talking about prayer at the end got me). also the Dirty Dozen mention was awesome.

If I'm not mistaken, this show was sold as being a show about military men and how it affected their lives at home. I've noticed the ratings have put this show in or around the top 10 almost every week, and I can't help but think that they would be better off just dropping the wives part of the show next season. That isn't to say kick off all of the actresses, just give them smaller parts.

The Shield works best when it's focused on the team, and I feel The Unit could benefit from that. I love watching the team in action and working together, but can't stand the equal time allotted to the wives every show when their story lines aren't anywhere near the team's stories.

Instead of giving each side 50/50 of the show, maybe change it to around 70/30 in favor of the men's side of the story.

Just an opinion.

Last night's double shot was pretty nice. The first episode with Brown on assignment in Africa protecting the Secretary of State (who I think played the character Milosh in an episode of Seinfeld) was a solid one. The subplots with the wives was pretty good this time--didn't feel like like it was tacked on, distracting from the Unit's time. And I completely didn't see it coming when Jonas' wife got conned out of forty grand. The attempted rape scene also was effective, especially when Brown's wife decides not to tell her husband about it.

The second episode's ending was telegraphed. I just knew there would be some twist to the end of the flashback story, and then of course they turn over the body of Arana and it's the guy they came to rescue. But at least they left questionable if he went rogue or was working with the CIA.

The preview they gave of the season finale gave me negative expectations of it. Seemed like it was going to try to go over the top, but that might have been bad commercial editing by CBS. Their commercials usually suck. Anyone still watching this?

season finale was good enough I suppose. not as strong as the 5 or 6 previous episodes though. I do like how they've humbled the Molly character with her real estate booboo.

good Glengarry in-joke too, anyone else catch it?

I'm hoping next season explores how this secret group was attacked on their own turf. No one is supposed to know who they are let alone where they're stationed.

It was that French commander's fault. He said Blaine's real name in front of the main terrorist. After that all the terrorist had to do was look up that name, which would show him the Logistics Group and where it was based.

I did like the Glengarry Glen Ross line delivered by Brown at the beginning of the season finale. "Coffee's for closers." Great stuff for all the Mamet fans watching the show.

Speaking of Mamet, I guess it was inevitable that Rebecca Pidgeon make an appearance. But it sure came out of left field that she was engaged to Robert Patrick's character. As a whole, though, it was an average finale. There were plenty of episodes during the season which were superior to the finale. The final scene at the reception seemed too clean, like the Unit just killed the intruders so easily. They did have machine guns, AK-47s, etc. against a few pistols. If the scene had been more carefully edited it would have been more believable. The way it was, the Unit just kind of walked forward into the spray of the machine guns.

Don't forget as well, why The Unit was attacked, they kept the French Commander for a few days and probably totured him to get any and all info from him.
