Is this an official remake of "Night of the Creeps", loosely based-upon, inspired by or rip-off? I just saw the trailer for the first time, and a lot of it really reminded me of NOTC.

It's not a remake, and I hope it's not a ripoff... although there are obviously similarities.

I've got faith in James Gunn, though. Guy wrote Tromeo and Juliet, Lloyd Kaufman's first book, and also The Toy Collector. (hugely underrated)

No, it's not a rip off... of Night of the Creeps

Gunn never saw Night of the Creeps before he did the movie (but he did see it after). He talked about it in Chicago at Fango. But he does admit to "borrowing freely" from Shivers and Puppet Masters, which are both things that inspired Creeps as well. But none of this really matters as the MOVIE IS FUCKING AWESOME. I wasn't alone as the whole audience gave it a standing ovation in Chicago.
