That M. Night Shyamalan AmEx Commercial

Kinda makes him look like a douchebag.

Tiny too.

I can't decide what's more improbable: this commercial being better than his last two movies combined, or the fact that the waitress liked "The Village"?
I still wonder how many people went "Who the fuck is that?" when he appeared.
Its an expensive commercial that isn't even cool.

The same image popped into my mind as well; several million people all saying "Who the fuck is this and why is it taking so goddamn long"

Is there a link or something to this?
Is he in the commercial or did her direct the commerical?
And, whats the twist?

"In my life, I try to find ways to talk about myself".

Horrible, boring, and loooooooong. Still, it has more good ideas in it than he seems to have for his movies these days.

Also sort of the same feeling I get of him whenever his cameo's pop up.

He kinda is a douchebag, y'know.

I didn't like the commercial very much, but I like what he's been doing with his hair as of late.

Looking forward to his next film though.

It's actually an ad for Visa!

So much so that the waitress has to name two of his movies so people can go "Oh, it's that guy. I hate him."
The commercial is just terrible. I guess he demands to work without an editor on shitty commercial jobs, too.
I'm assuming this "long form" commercial will get edited down to a couple of different 30-second spots. Seems the trend of late to have multiple versions of the same commercial.

It will continue to suck regardless...
What I like about it is the notion that Shyamalan comes up with ideas for movies by sitting on his own in restaurants and thinking "Wouldn't it be weird if a baby buggy just rolled past for no reason?"

It explains a lot. Such as why his movies don't make much sense.
Wasn't a great commercial but I didn't think it was horrible. Honestly didn't even seem that long to me either.

What bothers me so much is not that he's off dreaming in his own world, but that he gets bummed when he *gasp!* actually has to talk to a fan.

"You appreciate my work? Fuck off. I'm being an ARTIST."
very pretentious

doesn't he make enough money from his films? Then again, Scorsese has done a commercial in the past few years...

Just seems like an ego stroking cash in.

Is that what the ad was supposed to convey? I wasn't sure if it was some kind of homage to films that have influenced him or if he's trying to be like Tarsem.

"I'm a wealthy film director who has lots of down time. I can do anything in the world I want. Hmm, I think I'll go to restaurants all day and have dumb fantasies."

It's the same concept as the Kate Winslet commercial. Same advertising concept for both commercials for the product. I wouldn't be surprised to see it replace the Winslet commercial that plays before every movie I have seen the last few months.

I sitll remember watching the Winslet commercial for the first few times and I could never figure out one of her movie references - "I had my mind erased." Then after over a month I realized it was Eternal Sunshine. My girlfriend could not figure out another, the one that referenced Heavenly Creatures.

This one is no different, really. I liked it.

It's one of the best ways to find new "characters" for your work. Restaurants, bars, etc... are one of the best ways I know to watch people, listen to them talk and work on characterization for stories. Hell, I wrote one of my short films based on walking through Wal Mart late one night. I think the reason I like the commercial is because - as a writer - it makes a ton of sense to me.
Are you also, like Shyamalan, a terrible writer?
Who the hell is Shyamalan?
Yes, it was most definitely supposed to portray him dreaming or whatever inside the restaurant, thus the moody music and ominous shots, despite the fact nothing of the sort was actually happening.

I actually really like the idea, and in many ways the execution (im a shamalamadingdong fan), but I am just so tired of seeing him in his own shit. He went WAY over the line casting himself as the third main character in Signs, and now every time I see him on screen I get a little pissed.

But the commercia's idea was interesting, I thought.

is that supposed to be a spelling gripe, or do you honestly not know?

He was the writer and director of Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village.
Easily one of the dumbest and most self-fellating commercials I have seen in a while.

Actually the Kate Winslet commercial was a little more self-fellating than the M. Night one (maybe it just annoys me because I have seen it so much the last few months). I still don't really understand the Robert DeNiro one and the Tiger Woods one is just stupid.

Hell, I still remember the old "American Express, don't leave home without it" commercials.

You guys do understand that it is an advertising campaign for American Express and the only difference is that M. Night was allowed to direct his commercial himself?

Jesus, you must not watch a lot of T.V. then.
People are slating the ad because it's Shyamalan, not because it's shit, i think.
It's no worse than any other ad for Amex i've ever seen.
If his mind actually works like that, I fear for the world.
Was that a skin-head in the restaurant?
It's like a SciFi Channel commercial.

I did not think about that, but now that you mention it, yeah, it really is.

Looked like an MIB teaser to me.

I'm not slating it because it's Shyamalan. I just think he could be nicer to the waitress. He probably doesn't even tip.
Yeah what cruel bastard. I'd understand if she had called him Shamalamadingdong.

It's because she lied to him when she said she liked The Village.

No, SciFi Channel commercials are cheeky and self-aware. Shyamalan's is narcissistic and pretentious.

"My superpower allows me to make hasty generalizations about someone's personal character based on a thirty second commercial spot."

Is it because secretly you (1.) think he let you down for some reason or (2.) find him threatening for some reason or even strangely (3.) think he's "teh s3xy" and can't confess to your dirty dirty hyderabadi man love?
