The only two surefire ways to get banned right off the bat are to be an obvious shill or a troll. If you're here just to hawk your wares or to stir up trouble, then your stay will be a short one.
Other than that, and despite what some may think, the CHUD boards have a very laissez faire approach to moderation. It's rare that an established poster gets banned, and then its usually after numerous public and private warnings to cease whatever behaviour is causing a problem.
Compared to most message boards, this place is not the draconian hellhole some are so keen to paint it as.

They could email me, but you wouldn't get banned. It's not like there's a select number of members who can get accounts deleted just by asking. If that were the case, the likes of Moltisanti, fabfunk or poopoodle wouldn't even be here to respond.
Of course, people can point at Devin, or Charlie or Brad and say "How come they get away with being an asshole, that's not fair".
It's not fair, but that's the way it is. Some people
do get more leeway, by virtue of their time here. This place isn't some model of democracy, where anyone who registers anonymously is automatically granted the same privileges as someone who's been here for three years.
It's a privately owned message board. Think of it like a bar. Anyone can come in, but the regulars aren't going to be barred if they get rowdy. Start an argument the first time you walk in, and you don't get that privilege.
And these boards have
always been sarcastic and, yeah, vicious. It's an extension of the site itself. It's one of the reasons I stuck around and took the time to get the pulse of the place. I like quick-witted, sarcastic conversations with people who know their stuff. I get that here. Most of the time.
People who join and their first impulse is to start a thread that goes
"so what does everone think about the satr wars prequls?," is, frankly, in the wrong place. They won't get banned for not fitting in, but nor will they be shielded from the inevitable responses.
Maybe that sounds harsh. Maybe it
is harsh. But that's the way it is. It's not up to the CHUD community to accomodate the whims of everyone who takes the 5 seconds to register. It's up to those who register to fit in with the CHUD community.
And if its too snarky, too lame, too insular, too self-referential, then they should probably go elsewhere. I imagine most of them do. A small minority feel the need to keep re-registering to point out the obvious rather than moving on with their lives.
