Seems like an odd fellow. Getting banned kind of seems like a pain.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification. I think maybe Dan Whitehead or Jason Thompson are mods, maybe I'll ask them the next time I see them in a forum, or just e-mail them.

Don't be an insufferable douchebag seems to be the only bylaw.

I am a sufferable douchebag, therefore I remain free and wild.

What man could tame Brad Millette?
It would mighty tender hands to tame such a man.
I wish I knew how to quit you.
I have to say I found Poopoodle's ongoing EpIII thing kind of amusing. But that's just me.
Can't we all just get along? Seriously folks, you're all taking this way too seriously.

And BTW, since this thread exsists, I would like to apologize to Brad Millette, because while his post about the Green Goblin's mask in the 'Black Suit Revealed' thread was not a very well reasoned argument, and the only conclusion I could come to was that he was indeed flat out wrong about what he was saying...I was kind of a dick when I responded to him. But then again, I was being a dick most of that day, and generally shitting on everyone. But yeah there's my apology.

If this is gonna get anymore out of hand, I recommend the thread be closed, and y'all take it to PM's, cause that's what they're for.

And, calling people out for typing errors, and shit like that, please knock it off. This isn't a god damn English class. Most of you, if not all of you, make grammatical errors every other sentence and don't even realize it. So please, just quit the bullshit. It's not funny. It's getting old. Okay?

Good day, everyone.
I didn't make any posts about the Green Goblin's mask in that thread.

But I accept your apology anyway.
You are correct sir.

It seems in the midst of all the troll bating and general stupidity going on in that thread I confused you with Nigel St. Buggering. While his post was pretty damn stupid, my response certainly wasn't much better, even though technically, I was pretty much totally right. But yeah. No need for name calling and shit. Not if everyone is gonna get their panties in a wad and bitch and complain about it.

It's all fun and games, isn't it?

I bet George Lucas can sleep peacefully at night knowing poopoodle saw his film. SITH wouldn't have reached the $380 mill mark domestically without him.
Okay, so is THIS your "last post ever?"
Oh, irony.
I'm all for condescending putdowns and unwarranted aggression, as long as it's tasteful. Dan Whitehead is obviously the model we should all be following.

Actually, I'm not for that stuff at all, but we should all still try to write as well as Dan. Sometimes, this place could warm the cockles of Michael Jackson's marble heart with a nervous giggle, that's how funny it gets. We need more funny and less infighting.

He discovered queer spore. I believe he has a life beyond his computer. He is a role model for the children.

I'll save you the time.

I get your schtick. It's almost clever. A sort of "reasonable trolling". You register here with the sole intention of telling us, yet again, what's wrong with this site and the people who frequent it, but you do so in an almost cordial fashion that stays just the right side of intelligent discourse.

The fact that you're actually having to suggest being banned in your posts makes me think that you were hoping to be deleted long before you reached 216 posts, so you could fly the flag of mock indignation - "Those lame Chuddies, all I did was give an opinion! They can't handle the truth!"

Fact is, at best, you've inspired a sort of weary familiarity. So if you've got the energy in you to keep it up for another 216 posts then, by all means, knock yourself out. I'm sure someone will wake me when you get interesting.

Hey Dan Whitehead,

I am assuming you are a "mod" or "admin" person. I was just wondering if there is a thread that sort of outlines what sort of stuff will get you banned, or if you could give me a loose idea?

Obviously you're not going to whip up a multi-page treatise on etiquette just cause one poster requests it, but I'm just looking for a vague idea. If I got into an internet fracas with Brad or Charlie, could they just e-mail you and say "Hey Dan, how's about banning that guy?" Is there a warning first or an appeal process?

Look forward to hearing back from you.

The only two surefire ways to get banned right off the bat are to be an obvious shill or a troll. If you're here just to hawk your wares or to stir up trouble, then your stay will be a short one.

Other than that, and despite what some may think, the CHUD boards have a very laissez faire approach to moderation. It's rare that an established poster gets banned, and then its usually after numerous public and private warnings to cease whatever behaviour is causing a problem.

Compared to most message boards, this place is not the draconian hellhole some are so keen to paint it as.

They could email me, but you wouldn't get banned. It's not like there's a select number of members who can get accounts deleted just by asking. If that were the case, the likes of Moltisanti, fabfunk or poopoodle wouldn't even be here to respond.

Of course, people can point at Devin, or Charlie or Brad and say "How come they get away with being an asshole, that's not fair".

It's not fair, but that's the way it is. Some people do get more leeway, by virtue of their time here. This place isn't some model of democracy, where anyone who registers anonymously is automatically granted the same privileges as someone who's been here for three years.

It's a privately owned message board. Think of it like a bar. Anyone can come in, but the regulars aren't going to be barred if they get rowdy. Start an argument the first time you walk in, and you don't get that privilege.

And these boards have always been sarcastic and, yeah, vicious. It's an extension of the site itself. It's one of the reasons I stuck around and took the time to get the pulse of the place. I like quick-witted, sarcastic conversations with people who know their stuff. I get that here. Most of the time.

People who join and their first impulse is to start a thread that goes "so what does everone think about the satr wars prequls?," is, frankly, in the wrong place. They won't get banned for not fitting in, but nor will they be shielded from the inevitable responses.

Maybe that sounds harsh. Maybe it is harsh. But that's the way it is. It's not up to the CHUD community to accomodate the whims of everyone who takes the 5 seconds to register. It's up to those who register to fit in with the CHUD community.

And if its too snarky, too lame, too insular, too self-referential, then they should probably go elsewhere. I imagine most of them do. A small minority feel the need to keep re-registering to point out the obvious rather than moving on with their lives.

I don't think you can be banned for something you don't have.
Wow Dan, that was a really comprehensive response, and I think I get what you are saying. Thanks for taking the time to write all that up. People should have to read that before they can sign up for the boards.
Yeah, let's go ahead an put that rumor to bed right now. Neither me nor Charlie have any clout at getting people banned here. Psychic Death was, like I said, a special case. I knew who that guy was right off the bat, so I called him out because I knew he'd get banned within the hour, and I thought it was a good gag. I can't, and wouldn't (which may surprise you) just pop a PM or an email to somebody and get them banned.

In my time here, I've seen scant few people that weren't obvious trolls or shills get banned. All of them deserved it when it happened, because they either melted down completely, or just became a series of events that, while taken by themselves would be minor, added up to someone that either had become or always was intolerable. Hell, one of them literally asked for it. This place is far more a hippie commune for jerks than it is some kind of strict gulag.

People like ol' CreepyThinMan/Psychic Death/etcetera and JohnShade just get pissed off at me because I don't fall for their nonsense "Internet Disguises".

But I will tell you.. that Charlie guy? He's a dick.
This board is nowhere near as ban-happy as a lot of other boards. But I do think a lot of the thinking of some trolls is "If I say something rude and they don't ban me, I win. If I say something rude and they ban me, I got under their skin and I win. Either way, I win."

I do think that funny goes a long way, though. If you're going to be a prick, at least make people laugh while you're doing it.

I think things are very fair here. I have had my share of issues with people here and they have had issues with me, but I have never been unilaterally banned. Aside from Jason P. Thompson cracking down on my occasional unneccessary parody thread, I don't think anyone has ever tried to push me out or off the site.

I barely post as it is, so that probably helps. Partly because I've worn out my welcome here, but mostly because it doesn't matter how good of a post I make it just ends up getting ignored because of my past here or because people don't care to start an actual conversation with me. I've reaped what I've sown and that makes me pretty sad.

This idea that people feel like they have been mistreated still makes me laugh though. Someone other than you pays for all of this, doesn't charge you membership and lets you pretty much do whatever you want, but you want to impose your own rules as to what constitutes fair play? Fuck that. You try that on some other message boards out there and it's instaban, plain and simple.
I've called for this before, but, seriously, Dan Whitehead's post, this is the stuff that really should be read before a new user is allowed to register. It really should be something of a second Terms of Use Agreement.

Probably wouldn't curb the neverending stream of assholes any, but at least it'd give us "can't say we didn't warn you" rights.
Another thing that people should keep in mind: A lot of us that appear to be complete dicks, and have been here for a while, you'll notice that most of us can take shit just as well as we give shit.
You would know, so I'll take your word for it.

I wouldn't mind being the Simon Cowell of the message boards if Paula Abdul got in my knickers.

You're calling somebody desperate for attention? That's rich.

What's with the Moltisanti hate anyway? Granted, I'm sure I missed something, I don't have Helix time to spend on here what with raising a daughter and working for a living and such, but it seems to me that noboby here is actually for serious film discussion, but everybody here claims to be. Unless it's comic book related, then pretty much everybody chimes in. Have you ever started a thread on a movie older than 1980? Good luck, because you'll get maybe ten responses. And more than likely those ten responses will be from the message board intelligence squad telling you how stupid you are.

If Moltisanti is guilty of anything, it's not taking an internet message board as life or death.

See, you're using the term "Senior Chewers", when I believe the more appropriate term for Nick would be "Owner of the site".
Furthermore, when the hell has Nick STARTED shit with anyone?

Shouldn't that mean you should go to another message board like Rotten Tomatoes or something?

The great thing about this thread is that Moltisanti never responded.

Well to be fair to the guy the question asked was pretty much challenging his very core. You might as well have asked him the meaning of life or asked him to figure out at what point Millette/Fabfunk's relationship evolved into it's current sadomasochsitic form.
