A grand and epic look at few outsiders surviving the self-destruction of a corrupt and unstable culture. This film is worth studying.

This film boasts an incredible story and a very impressive soundtrack. Trainspotting includes graphic scenes of drug use, sex and death. One of the finest films to come from Scotland, this movie...

I don't read much CHUD fiction, but I really liked the light, conversant tone that the author maintained throughout the piece, and the build-up of the satellite/violence elements of the threads.
I really enjoyed the build-up, but felt that the ending came too quickly, and that changing the narrator hurt the ending. It would have been "niftier," in my opinion, if the last letter had either been a response from Pete with a different reveal, or even a letter from Jeff that revealed or hinted at a course of action he was about to take. I actually would have liked this to have been longer.
Good job with the character though, author.

great story Thomas,
Concise, interesting and well executed.
i really enjoyed it.
agree the ending could have been a bit more climactic
but still excellent.
just curious...
have u ever read a book called "Where Rainbows End" by Cecilia Ahern.
Similar style to yours but very very different subject matter

Very nice, but gives the impression of a sketch of a story rather than a real one. This is not due to you only showing the e-mails from one person, which i liked as a style-choice, but because the concepts are only introduced, never developed. Comparing our studying of the heavens while ignoring of what is right next to us, using the distancing style of e-mails to suggest our alienation from our neighbours, comparing this modern, technological culture with ancient civilisations - all of this stuff is in there and good meaty fun, but nothing is done with it. Maybe you were being tremendously subtle, but it read like an author only tentatively playing with his subject.
The story entirely lacked the self-conscious attitude or over-writing that clags up a lot of these stories and always makes me stop reading them. I got to the end of this one. That's a compliment.

Yeah that was nice. I have always had a thing for stories that offer an explanation for certain mysteries in History (The Donner Party, etc). I pretty much agree with Andrew in every regard, although I'm sure it's hard to flesh something like that out in the style you chose. Either way, thumbs-up, that was a good morning read.

The CHUD ones. I'll admit my experience of online fiction doesn't consist of much more than Chudstories and a mortal fear of fanfiction. If you want to link me to a good site of fiction that will entertain me in my coffee breaks, please link me.

There are some fantastic fiction sites online, aside from the pure entertinament fare we get from our heroes here at CHUD. Some of them have actually paid me for fiction, so they're supercool. There's Bewildering Stories, which may not look like much but is updated every week on Monday. It's editors are two fine guys, one of whom has translated Bergerac's sci-fi novel "The Other World." It's definitely worth a look.
Check out Strange Horizons, which is a SFWA member, and so gets a number of great stories.
Ideomancer is good, and publishes some slipstream stuff that doesn't get aired elsewhere.
Speculative.ca doesn't update frequently, but they tend to have some neat stuff. They're getting a recommendation because they paid me sixty dollars for one of my stories.
Futurismic is pretty cool, as well.
These are zines of the speculative fiction type, because that's what I write and have the most familiarity with. Anybody else here big on literary or mainstream online fiction?
