THE LOOP on FOX

I'm torn about this show. There's some fun, mean-spirited comedy and there were some good laughs throughout. But the core cast of young people don't match the flair of the rest of the show. We've seen Loser Brother, Girl-just-friend, and Wacky Mature Kid before. But then there's the great Phillip Baker Hall.

Still, I don't think the show is quite good enough to find its way into my schedule.

Edit because I get my Three-Name Phillips confused.

Did you originally put Philip Seymour Hoffman? If The Loop had PSH, I would be so there. Even though I love Philip Baker Hall, I couldn't sit through much of The Loop's premiere. I think it's because I'm still pretty bitter at Fox's sitcom schedule. . .

Yeah, my brain was on auto-pilot and put PSH.

I thought they were cramming a hell of a lot of stuff (story, one-liners, sight gags, etc.) into a 1/2 hour show. Some of it worked, some didn't. The bit where the guy's brother jumps out the window and lands on the trampoline was pretty funny.

And PBH's character reminds me a lot of Ken Jenkins (Dr. Kelso) on "Scrubs". When I first saw the preview for this, I actually thought it was the same guy.

I thought the bit in the commercial where someone talks about power and responsibility with the protagonist gasping, "Spider-Man!" was hilarious, mostly because I've done that before.

You mean there's more to it than that?

This is the type of soon-to-be-canceled show Paget Brewester would be on if she weren't on "Huff". Damn you, "Huff".

Philip Michael Thomas is great in this.
