Ben @ Game Revolution makes some of the same points
here. His comments are pretty much exactly what I sent in an email to the G4 producer who called me after Ben and I got off the phone that afternoon. (I recommended him when I couldn't do it. I also recommended Nick and the Penny Arcade boys, who I've never met but figured would be great.)
And it's true -- going up cold against a guy who argues for a living, even if he's a loon, is a sure path to failure. A big part of the reason I said no was that, while I might have been able to alter my travel plans, I would have wanted to spend all the time between the phone call and the taping reading up so that I didn't look like an idiot. I didn't have the freedom to do that.
I guess G4 wanted exactly what they got. Sad that it amounts to the Jerry Springer Games Show.
