Really dug it.

I was upset that I missed out on the (sold-out) NYC premiere last month, but I'm glad to have this dvd in my collection. Anyone else catch it?

I rented it, it's not bad. The gore is great (especially the very confusing 'moonshine' death) and it's a lot of fun. Too bad the ending doesn't amount to a whole lot, I would have liked to see a bigger climax.

Yeah, I agree with you about the ending. It just sorta ends by everyone bitching out, then they have that stupid coda. But I thought the rest of the film was fun enough.

What was confusing about the moonshine though? Acid moonshine!

C'mon! No one else has checked this out yet?

I rented it on thursday, I have the same problem about the climax not being all that great, but the rest of the movie was great. Lots of laughs, and a lot of gore. Robert Englund was great as always. I'll definitely be buying the dvd, it was worth the 3.75 rental.

Robert will always be Freddy to me, but it seems I saw a different version of this movie about ten years ago made in the seventies I think. does anyone know?

bgirl,

2001 MANIACS is a remake of TWO THOUSAND MANIAC, a film by H. G. Lewis. You gotta read the site, girl! That's where we keep the info!

Caught this early this morning (Late last night?). I'm 50-50 on it. I enjoyed the humor angle, which made up for the grasping plot points (Even the promise of free beer and loose southern bells wouldn't keep most spring breakers from spring break). A lot of chewed scenery (especially by Englund) was a plus, more southern sterotype jokes then you could shake a stick at was a minus. Obligatory hot women were a definite plus, although the cut away editing ruined most of their scenes. My bigger problem with the film was the let down on the death scenes. I expected bigger and better than it's predecessor, and instead received either uninspired 1/2 off screens or copy cat originals, without even my favorite Keg O' Nails barrel roll. Nice final scene, although "Ghost Ship" did that far better.

All in all, I'll say 6.5 out of 10.
