Recast Your Favourite TV Shows

Inspired by the ongoing Recast Your Favourite Movie thread (now in its third year!), this thread invites you to recast the TV shows you've enjoyed in the past with the actors of today.

I'm kicking off with the 2006 version of one of my all-time favourites, MOONLIGHTING:

Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd): ELIZABETH BANKS

David Addison (Bruce Willis): KYLE CHANDLER

Agnes Dipesto (Allyce Beasley): EMILY PERKINS

Herbert Viola (Curtis Armstrong): SETH GREEN

Sam Crawford (Mark Harmon): SIMON BAKER

Richard Addison, David's brother (Charles Rocket, RIP): RON LIVINGSTON

Casting notes: Chandler was pretty much my only choice to replace Willis as David Addison, although Livingston was an intriguing enough alternative for me to cast him as Dave's brother. Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the first people who came to mind as Maddie, but she's perhaps a little young right now - it came down to 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN co-stars Banks and Leslie Mann, and Banks's comic flair won out. (Someone else who just came to mind: Bridget Moynahan). Melanie Lynskey was Perkins's only competition for the Dipesto role, and Green won out over Breckin Meyer for the part of Herbert Viola. And Baker strikes me as enough of a golden boy to challenge Chandler for Banks's affections during the third season.

Coming soon: Gabriel Byrne is THE EQUALIZER.

I don't feel comfortable making such casting decisions in this thread, being as the last post was fairly plausible.

That being said, is Heather Matazarro too old for a "Square Pegs" redo?

Sarah Michelle Gellar is too young, but Elizabeth Banks isn't? They're only three years apart.

I'm no good at these things, but someone better do an update of V.

The Moonlighting one was pretty good.

I know it's a cheesy call, Nigel, but Banks just seems a little more mature. I mean, she could get away playing Jeff Bridges's wife in SEABISCUIT without it seeming too odd. Maybe it's just hangover from BUFFY, CRUEL INTENTIONS and the like, but I'm having trouble picturing Gellar in late-20s/early-30s roles just yet. SOUTHLAND TALES'll probably change that, though.

Emily Perkins could probably get away with playing a high-schooler, fabfunk. (She does so in that Amanda Bynes movie SHE'S THE MAN. But then every 'teenager' in that movie looks like they're in their 20s.) So Perkins can take the SQUARE PEGS lead while Matarazzo plays Miss Dipesto.

Perkins from "Ginger Snaps"? You mean I need to see "She's the Man" now?

I wouldn't wish that shit on anyone, fabfunk. Just watch the GINGER SNAPS movies again for your Perkins fix.

This took a while. I'll have casting notes later, but for now, here's my version of The X-Files reimagined as a British television series:

Fox Mulder, Senior Case Officer, Section X (David Duchovny)-Jack Davenport

Dana Scully, Senior Case Officer, Section X (Gillian Anderson)-Emily Mortimer

Walter Skinner, Assistant Head of Domestic Affairs (Mitch Pileggi)-Ciaran Hinds

Deep Throat (Jerry Hardin)-Simon Callow

Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis)-John Cleese

Winston Byers-Martin Freeman

Richard “Ringo” Langley-Nick Frost

Melvin Frohikie-Ralph Brown

Yeah, yeah, you've got the Farrell/Foxx combo in cinemas later this year. But in the meantime, here's the cast for a small-screen revival of MIAMI VICE.

Det. James 'Sonny' Crockett (Don Johnson): MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY

Det. Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas): GARY DOURDAN

Det. Gina Navarro Calabrese (Saundra Santiago): JUDY REYES

Det. Trudy Joplin (Olivia Brown): SOPHIE OKONEDO

Det. Stan Switek (Michael Talbott): JEREMY RATCHFORD

Det. Larry Zito (John Diehl): DEXTER FLETCHER

Lt Martin Castillo (Edward James Olmos): PETER WELLER

(Yeah, that character probably won't be named 'Castillo' this time around.)

Coming soon: Gabriel Byrne is THE EQUALIZER. And the TFTV version of SCARECROW & MRS KING.

I wouldn't wish Dexter Fletcher on anybody.

And Rath, please watch more UK TV.

Yes, she's 21 years old.

BTW, who did you want her to play, Patty Greene (Sara Jessica Parker) or Lauren Hutchinson (Amy Linker) ? I'm guessing Patty.
