"The Best Fight Scene Of All Time"

...as described on the host site. It is pretty funny, though. And watch for an appearance by a certain semi-famous female American martial artist (is there more than one?).

Timo linked this in the "B Action Movie" thread, though it is probably worthy of its own thread as well. I don't think I've ever heard so much needless yelling in a fight scene.

YAAAAAAH! RRRRRRRRR! HAAAAAAA! That was one of the most homoerotic things pretending to be for straight guys I've ever seen.

Piper and David in They Live. I wish they would have included the extra 10 minutes that Carpenter apparentely cut out of the final version.

That was my exact thought upon reading the Thread Title. That fight scene ranks #1 in my top ten of all time.

The title of the film is called 'Undefeated'

'We'll keep an eye out for you, stingray'

"Yeah, SEE YA"

That made me laugh so much.

The weird thing is that after commiting virtually every single 80's action movie faux pas, it still beat out quite a large amount of the action scenes I've seen over the years in terms of what really counts: pacing, excitement, and imagination. Thats what makes this scene great, it isn't hard to watch like so much other unintentionally funny stuff.

Yeah, it's bad because they don't do a very good job pretending to hit each other (Tony Jaa has set the bar very high, by actually hitting people), but it did have some interesting ideas thrown in there. Like the slow-mo face hits, which I've always wanted to see in a film, Matrix: Revolution just did it recently and Cowboy Bebop before that, but I didn't know this movie "beat" them to it. Not sorry for the pun.

I agree Agent Back Smith, action films need to bring back the pacing, excitement, and imagination. DTV films really need to bring that back, no matter how silly it is.

edited to fix Smith's name, sorry about that.

"Yeah, see ya"

The girl punches the bad guy in the face, and he doesn't even grunt, he just ignores it. That's awesome.

I like the attention to detail. Both guys are INSTANTLY OILED UP when they decide to take their shirts off for no reason.

I just started laughing really hard when he got his second eye poked out. It's like, "Shit! Not my other eye! Dammit!" It reminded me of the beginning of the 1st Naked Gun movie, where OJ Simpson has been shot, and then he gets caught in a bear trap, the window slams on his hand, he falls face first into a cake, etc.

Right, if it comes out funny, it comes out funny. If it comes out stupid, it comes out stupid. It just needs to be entertaining. I feel like people are too busy doing homages to their favorite filmmakers to build their own narrative, and their storytelling fundamentals are really suffering.

Although funny, They Live is definately superior. A close second is Timmy vs. Jimmy.
I've been watching this non-stop lately. Just ttoally hardcore. The guy makes the same sound when he hits someone as he does when he is hit, or even eye-gouged.

And really, TWO puns?

I was under the impression that Timmy v Jimmy was a blow-for-blow reenactment of They Live.
I got the same impression.
I third that impression.
You guys are only saying that because it's completely true.
The whole scene is like an audition for the Hulk TV series.

Also, which film are you guys referring to when you say Timmy and Jimmy?
Did anybody else notice the little sigh the bad guy emits before the fight? It's like the thought of the coming fight is arousing him.

Then he licks his knife, which is EXACTLY the same knife the bad guy had in Cobra. Talk about your homages.

Last thought. Worst doctor ever. He was wearing a doctor's coat right?

It was from an episode of "South Park" where two of the characters with handicaps, Timmy and Jimmy, engage in a fight that presumably was taken from THEY LIVE.
For my money Ravenous is the home of the greatest fight scene of all time. But that one was pretty fucking great.

Oh it absolutely borrows, steals, and so on. But it also puts most of it's energy into making the whole sequence work instead of just having these three-odd seperate shots be as good as they were when what's his name shot them.

I thought I remember hearing that it was from the French Connection, but then I could be WAY wrong on that one..
You are way wrong. It's scene by scene recreation from They Live.
I think the hammer fight in OldBoy is high on my list.
