N.J Nets tearing it up

i have to give my Nets props for this current winstreak with quality wins over the Dallas Mavericks, the Pistons in Detroit, and absolute beatdown of the Phoenix Suns..They're playing great team defense and the offense has been more consistent with Kristic and the bench stepping up..and lets not forget Jason Kidd is playing more like the Kidd of 4 years ago when he was the best point guard in the league..if they beat Memphis and Miami this week..They have to be considered a favorite to win the East

Great to see a fellow Nets fan on these boards. This 9 games win streak has been flat out great to watch. The quality Wins combined with Nenad becoming a real offensive force and the emergence of Planinic (finally!!) has been what i was waitng for all season. Its been frustrating to watch this team waste potential through this season but now they are comfortably in control of the 3 seed and on the verge of their second 10 game win streak of the year. I cant wait for the playoffs. If only Scott Padgett could get his act together and come in and bang some threes for him like he did earlier in the season

It's still hard to believe this team has the guns to stick with Detroit. Beyond the big three and Krstic, I don't feel like anyone else on the team is worth worrying about.

I dont think its hard to believe at all. When Jason Kidd is healthy he can guard any PG in the league. Just like 4 years ago when he took the Nets to the finals.
The Big 4 is all we need now. With Kristic scoring more and more consistently we can execute in a halfcourt set and still get our fastbreaks...

Er, the Nets have played Detroit toe to toe pretty well for the past few years, well before there even was a "big 3" (kmart was never an offensive force). One could say that the Pistons have no one other than their starting 5 either.

oh jeez, the pistons only have 5 very good players. i'm with fabfunk on this one. the nets don't have enough to stick around with the heat let alone the pistons. kidd's eratic shooting and carter's lack of a heart will do them in again and again.

I have a very hard time seeing *anyone* in the East beating Detroit in a seven game series.

actually i was trying to point out how silly fabfunks comment about NJ only having "four very good players" was. I'm not arguing that the Nets don't match up well with the Heat either, since they can't, but against Detroit they are around even, backed up by this seasons record against them and the last couple of years playoffs. But I digress, I'll let you guys continue with your Detroit is unstoppable train of thought.

ok if you want to discuss previous playoffs so bad...2005 playoffs, heat 4 nets 0. good luck to even face the pistons jersey!

good thing the road to detroit doesnt go through miami for the nets. detroit and the heat are scheduled to meet up in the second round and new jersey would face detroit in the conference finals should both teams get that far.

also, 2003 playoffs, the nets swept detroit in the eastern conference finals. 2004, they played up to game 7 despite that jkidd was hobbled throughout the entire postseason.

since when has the top 2 teams in a conference met in anything besides the conference finals? you really should learn how the playoff seedings and matchups work.

and what happened 3 years ago means nothing now. the heat never even made the playoffs in 2003. do you actually think i'm worried about the nets because of it?

that was a fucked up interpretation of current seedings on my part. (thanks spurs and mavs)

my response to fabfunk saying that the nets cant stick with detroit still stands as their season record against detroit is 2-2, they're also currently 2-1 against miami.

The Nets are the 3 seed and would face Miami in the 2nd round should both teams advance that far. The nets just won the atlantic assuring that they can only move up in their seeding not down. NBA made it so the division winners are the top 3 seeds no matter what. even if the nets finished below .500 and won the atlantic they would be the 3 seed. Assuming the top 4 seeds advance the NBA wants the 1 to play the 4 and the 2 to play the three so they have a potential 1 v 2 conf final. Thats why the Mavs are gonna get screwed unless they catch the spurs, in which case the spurs get screwed. I dont think anyone is saying the Nets are a lock to beat either pistons or heat but they match up well against the heat and except for a terrible call in their first meeting the nets probably would have swept them, anyway they beat them 3 times this year.
