Wonder Showzen: Season 2

Very hit or miss. Most of the puppet stuff wasn't that funny. It seemed to a very long set up for a "P-ness" joke.

Clarence continues to rule. He got one guy so mad, the dude ripped off his eyeballs. For the life of me, I just don't understand why people go after Clarence. He's a puppet! Hit the guy who's making him say those things, morons.

"Beat Kids" was hilarious. That little boy is one twisted fuck. He took the Miss Connecticut contestants to task:

-- The sub-mentals are about to enter the building.

-- The girls here are about as real as this plastic tree. When he started making out with a leaf, I just lost it.

-- Would you kick a pony in the face to end world hunger?

I don't abuse animals.

So you're gonna let millions of people starve for just one, stupid pony?

And my favorite line...

-- 15 girls. Somewhere 15 frat guys are missing their punching bags. Then he looks right into the camera and says, "I only do it cuz I love you, baby." I don't know how a 10-year old learned how to deliver a line so well, but this kid was on point.

Beat Kids Trevor is my hero.

"15 girls. Somewhere 15 frat guys are missing their punching bags."

I love that they get kids to say stuff like that. It's kind of a cheap joke but it's still funny.

And The Period/Alice in Wonderland thing was the best cartoon short yet.

It stinks like porridge down there.

I missed the cartoon my first viewing because I must have fast-forwarded right past it when I was skipping commercials. I rewatched this episode with my roommate the other day, and was pleasantly surprised to see "Aunt Flo" make a visit. I wish I could remember the names of the concession stands along the girls vaginal canal. I remember really laughing at them.

They replayed the episode I believe Saturday night at 10:30 on MTV. This is cool for those folks that don't get MTV2.

Agreed. Not a funny skit. On the flip side, Trevor continues to kick ass. He was dressed up as a dead poe, for God's sake! There's a special place in Hell waiting just for him. High five! :P

Trevor and Clarence are the highlight of the show. God bless them both.

"Aw . . . HORSE APPLES!"

I love that they actually test marketed that crap.

Good use of David Cross in the horse apples bit.

David Cross and Amy Poehler in the same episode = pure awesomeness!

What a fantastic episode...two Beat Kids segments, Horse Apples, and the Press factory (" 'Press' stands for opppression and 'O' stands for 'Oh, shut up!'[/i]), not to mention few segments with the puppets (although the bit after the end credits with the aliens unfreezing Middle America was pretty freakn' funny). This season continues to score!

Not only that, the focus group said there was a huge market for the show. So depressing.

My fav line from the Press segment was the kid who said "This is where facts go to die". Was a bit worried after the first beat kids segment that I wouldn't get my Trevor fix for the week, so I was happy to see him in the second segment. The whole horse apples part of the show was great and I hope they make Middle America a recurring character.

There's a good interview with the creators at the A.V club. They talk about people's reactions to clarence and how they work with the kids.

Thanks for linking to the interview. I've always wondered how many times they've been punched for the Clarence bit, but I'd never have guessed they'd have knives pulled on them...repeatedly

After that whole David Cross vs Larry the Cable Guy thing, Larry and his fans can't be too pleased with Cross not only appearing in that sketch, not only dressing up like Larry, but even saying "Git-R-Done" as well.

I love the Trip To segments. My favorite one is still the trip to the hot dog factory.

The best kid transition so far has been with those twin girls holding hands: "Have you seen my sister? She died."

Funny interview

Awesome interview. I said this in my first post, but I just don't understand why people go after Clarence instead of the guy who's holding the puppet!

The puppet segments continue to disappoint, but man I laughed hard at the 80's-style rap PSA. "Nigger! (Take it back.) Spic! (Take it back.)" Also, the song about how women can "do it too" was absolutely hilarious.

And although we didn't get any Trevor, the kid who went to Ground Zero and interviewed people about their experience while having them wear THIS was just too funny.

Awwww... HORSE APPLES!

As much as I love that skit, an entire episode devoted to it is a bit much. Always good to see David Cross though.

Wow, that I thought was the best episode they've ever done because the contempt for Middle America and Bush was palpable.

The intent behind the ep gets an A++, but the jokes were repetitive and just not all that funny. Plus, I liked the original episode where the contempt for Middle America (I'd hoped that puppet would have returned) and Bush were equally palpable.

"INNN-TOLERANT!"

Ah, Wonder Showzen! Keeping the culture war alive.
I'm with Diva on this one: The intent was very good, but they just dropped the ball in their dedication to making the entire episode a series of very hit-or-miss jokes. I would've preferred that they do an episode using the characters from Horse Apples and either just replaced the puppets w/ them or give the whole show "Horse Apples" at least some kind of story for the characters to go through and just go for the bizzar humor from there. I guess that they weren't joking last week when they said they were out of money and filming real people is cheaper than working with puppets.
Yeah, they really are broke. Something tells me this episode came from an argument with the executives about how the their show needed to be more compelling. I wonder how hard it was for them to keep a straight face when the guy made the comment about choking the chicken.
Not counting bus fare, that episode probably cost zero dollars.
Methinks the producers and MTV are no longer on good terms. This seemed like a contractual obligation show at best.

I miss the goodness. I hope they work out whatever problems they are having with MTV.

Did you guys see the Patience episode from last year? They love actively pissing off their viewers. The makers seem to take transgression seriously. That you hate it more than likely makes them happy. And I must admit that's what I enjoy about these types of shows, it's as if they're saying "No, seriously, fuck you. Seriously, go fuck yourselves."
Agreed. It's rather surprising that so many fans who should be aware of the show's sensibilities and humor are actually surprised and disappointed by the direction of these last few episodes. Having the gall to run with a random bit for however long on network television's time and money is one the reasons I love the show. I must admit a few of the Clarence moments from the season finale had me laughing harder than anything else in the second season.
