Racist?

Are we programmed to mix with our own? Or is that socail conditioning ?
If by 'programmed' you mean genetics, then no. If by 'programmed' you mean 'socially conditioned', then yes. *Some* people are socially conditioned to accept only people who adhere to some common denominator, whether it be language, ethnicity, nationality, gender, religion, or any number of other determining factors.

No, it's really not. Saying a black guy is a different race to a white guy is about as accurate as saying a blonde girl is a different race to a ginger-haired man.

Seriously. Open a 7th grade science book.

Sure, but what about The Gingerbread Man ?
Pastry Americans are irrelevant to this discussion.
He was talking about Kenneth Branagh.
Or he could've meant the Gingerdead Man, which would imply Gary Busey.
Personally, I don't like hangin' with the chimps. They might have opposable thumbs, but their tool-making abilities are laughable. Plus they sniff each other's butts.
If there's a better way to truly know a person than ass-sniffing, I've yet to hear it.

You could always spit in their asshole.

SO it would be ok for a white person to declare themselves black? I mean we are of all the same race, right?

Fair enought, today I think I'll be Latino...

Oooh, roleplaying. This thread just got SUPER SEXY.

Sorry, perhaps I should've clarified. To me, the idea of "race", the box-checking airport form version of it, is no less a purely cosmetic issue than hair colour or facial features. The idea that there is some genetic chasm between two human beings due to one being black and the other being white is just dumbass. You don't have a heart surgeon open up a black guy and break out his special African Manual because golly gosh, things are so much different with these types!
We haven't reached that level yet.

Okay, I'll be Hitler, you be Eva Braun. Let's heat this thread UP!

This thread conditionned my genes to think Eve L. is the moral equivalent of a dead possum and has the analytical and mental capacity of a jacked-up 386.

Are you that stupid?
Ethnicity has nothing to do with race. Race is a scientific classification. I mentioned that as a way of answering your question. Of course the idea of only mixing with "our own" (charming phrasing, btw) is learned.

It's not often I agree with the Mint, but he's dead-eye accurate on this one. We've associated climatic, geographical, and inherited genetic traits and given them a larger scope, despite the fact that they are indeed, purely cosmetic. The fact that someone has blonde hair is somehow accorded a different level of interpertation as someone who has brown skin is purely sociological.

With all due respect, Surge, it's not a matter of agreeing with Mint. It's not a question of opinion or perception. It's a biological fact that human beings all belong to the same race. The term race has also become slang for ethnicity.

The General Christian interpretation of Collosians 3:11 implys that We are all one, if we all sincerly accept Christ as Lord and Savior.

For there is nether Jew nor Greek, curcumcised, or un circumcised, Barbarian, scynthian, slave or free. For We are all one In Christ Jesus.

I was, against the ebb and flow of a Millette "Target Acquired" barrage, actually answering the original question. It's purely sociological to band together ethnically, or racially (damn, dirty, apes), not genetic.

Resuming amusing banter, already in progress.

And as a counter point, I quote the Godfather on negroes:
"They're anmals. They have no souls to lose."

So there.

Purely cosmetic thousands of years ago, yes. By today however there is so much history tied up in the equation that however nonsensical it may be differences run deep.

Hence why it's sociological. Had Hitler's Germany been successful, Aryan Blonde Hair/Blue Eye combinations would be far more racially (ethnically) signifigant than today, where it is only relevant in conjunction with large breasts for men's magazines.

I <3 this place.
