Just saw the Miike entry on UK TV. Pretty much the same mix of torture, sadism & troublesome pacing we've come to expect from the man, while lacking those glorious WTF? moments of inspired lunacy and sheer out-there-ness that make his movies a joy.
The simple plotline is nevertheless all over the place, strung out and laced with mysogeny and blatent 'this'll shock ya!' moments, it nevertheless has something to say about religious guilt and parental conditioning, and has some striking imagery.
As a Master of Horror episode I'd rate this pretty high for it's uncompromising nastiness, though it shares the series' feeling of unneccesary padding. The third act introduces us to a rather tired horror staple, expressed here in a rather laughable gross-out form. It also departs significantly from the more gripping tale built up in the first two acts.
Ultimateley a fairley fun MOH for the torture & goreafficionados, but a pretty big disappointment for Miike fans. And Showtime are still pussies for not showing it.
