Saved By The Bell on....Adult Swim??? - Page 2

I’d only hit Blossom with a bag on her head. Six on the other hand, no bag needed at all to do my business there.
No - more "Saved By the Bell" flashbacks entering my brain!!!!

I just remembered the episode where they find oil on the school property and Zack's fucking pet duck died in a sea of bubblin' crude.
Did they learn a valuable lesson afterward?

Also, there's oil in Southern California?
Remember the time Screech found child pornography in Belding's desk? But then Belding said he found it in Ms. Bliss' classroom after he canned her ass. Then I rubbed one out when they showed Lisa doing aerobics. That one was great.
Remember that time Slater was accused of date rape? Good times.

Powerful stuff from Hanks and Gross.

The thing I remember most about that episode is Tom Hanks chugging vanilla extract when he couldn't find any more sweet booze in the Keaton house.

And, hey, I am almost 30, and SBTB was on when I was in Jr. and early HS, so I don't think that college kids are going to watch SBTB stoned as a reminder of their childhood.

But seriously, what is wrong with the guys in charge of AS?

Perhaps it's like Brady Bunch reruns for my generation. We knew the show was lame as hell, but on the other hand... well, we didn't have cable.
is there any possibility that this could be saved by the bell, heavily edited for comedic effect ala wonder showzen or those clever movie trailers that totally change the theme of the movie given the right music and narration?

I doubt it, but it would be an impressive feat to pull off.
Yeah, the only way I can see this being anything close to viable would be to give the show to the guys who do MXC and allowing them to re-edit and re-dub the show as they see fit.

But you're wrong in assuming we were high when we enjoyed it. I'm 22 now, and when I was in Grade 6, Saved by the Bell was the cool show that everyone watched. I'm not sure I ever actually found it funny, I think it was more that we were imprinting social behaviour. The show seemed to understand young teenagers, a group that we were obsessed with. I'm pretty sure every 12 year-old wants to be at least 15.

I mean no disrespect. If you want to watch it sober, then by all means. When I was a youngster, we watched stuff like The Last American Virgin which if it taught me anything, it taught me that I really liked Losin' It.

I'm not up-to-date on my "Oz" viewings, but "City Guys" was surely some high-level character.
Man, if they put some City Guys on Adult swim it would be a different story. The inter-racial subtext alone would be enough to draw me back into the show.

Am I the only one who spent Saturday Morings watching Thundarr and Pryor's Place?

Thundarr, Mr. T, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. AHH those where the days.

Saved by the Bell was dumb. Why Adult Swimm feels the need to run a show that comes on three times a day on other cable channels makes no sense.
They want to do something from the 80's, is a cartoon, was both cool AND good, and is sorely lacking in its availability? Why not start showing episodes of The Real Ghostbusters instead?

I understand their whole 80's retro thing, yeah, but c'mon, there's stuff out there that isn't on TBS for two hours blocks on the weekdays.
My guess is that Saved By the Bell is going to air in Adult Swim's 'transitional' block--the 5 am slot. Where they currently air cheesy old cartoons like Chuck Norris' Karate Kommandos. And that Gary Coleman cartoon. They put stuff on that wouldn't be inappropriate for any kids that are up that early, but that hipsters still get ironic enjoyment out of.
Wait a minute, I'm missing Chuck Norris and his Karate Kommandoes? What the fuck? Why can't they advertise that like they did for Gigantor?
That's what I was thinking. I could have sworn that cartoon only ran for like a week back when I was a kid. I think I have the first issue of the Marvel comic that went with the cartoon. I bet today that comic is worth a $1.50!
I always thought it was funny the way they took R rated movies and made cartoons out of them. Like Rambo. Okay, maybe that's the only one. But most of Chuck's movies were rated R. So there.
Yeah, it’s hard to imagine a lot of R rated flicks today spawning cartoons that are meant for kids. In addition to “Rambo” there was also this:

If they want to show retro reruns, they should show BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.

Also, it doesn't seem like they'll be airing it in the early-morning slots. They're advertising it. They never do that for the dead-air show slots.

They used to. Once upon a time, there was a block with Batman, Superman, and Freakazoid. It was on at around 4:30 in the morning, but, hey, I've gotten up earlier trying to catch Cowboy Bebop before the DVDs came out.

You wouldn't be forgetting Conan the Adventurer would you?

Or Spawn?

And of course The Animatrix:

Also there's a Highlander movie out this year, and supposedly a Snake Plissken series in the works.
Spawn and the Animatrix are meant for kids? Spawn is full of sex and violence and The Animatrix was rated 15 over here. Teenagers, sure, but not kids the way RoboCop and Rambo were.

In terms of CONAN, that flick also spawned He-Man.
Yeah, "Spawn" and the "Animatrix" weren't really Saturday morning fare.

There actually was a "Highlander" animated series already but I never saw it:

The Highlander series was pretty good. IIRC, it was produced in France. It had Ramirez training Quentin McCloud, amid a He-Man-esque environment.

Yes, but there is also an animated feature film due out this year from director Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Animatrix: Program). Sure to be violent.

They did advertise for Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommandos. A fair amount. It was just a black screen with explosions that would say the show was coming on at 5AM.
That doesn't cut it for me. For that show they should have had billboards plastered everywhere, not to mention planes skywriting about the broadcast from sea to shining sea.

Desslar, you made my day with the Conan post. The beginning is just as sweet as I remember.

CONAN! THE MIGHTIEST WARRIOR EVAH!!!!

Not at all, not at all. In fact I have a buddy who has every episode of Thundarr on tape and we often watch it while drinking heavily.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

"Reed, Chuck's teenage apprentice!"

I don't care what you think of Norris, everyone must watch the first 2 minutes of that clip. "Things got pretty tough for us down in Florida, with the Deadly Dolphins!"

That show must have been pulled because of a plagarism suit filed by the producers of "G.I. Joe." Can you believe that Destro ripoff?

Not at all. But I must challenge the "mightiest warrior" claim. Long before the animated Conan, even before He-Man, there was:

Opening credits (in French. Who knew Thundarr was so cultured?):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=L0GRUEOJgAw

We really need a Thundarr movie. Hit the weights Lundgren.
I'm just quoting the wonderfully bombastic beginning. It's just sweet, sweet stuff.
Thundarr was the shit. Perfect mix of Road Warrior and Conan. Can't believe Hollywood hasn't caught on to that.
They tried with Steel Dawn and failed miserably. Someone should try to pitch Thundarr as a sequel to Night of the Comet, set 1000 years later.
that Chuck Norris and the Deadly Dolphins part 1 cartoon was some of the illest shit I've ever seen, what's part 2 about killer bunny rabbits. That was some of Chuck's finest work, right up there with his infomercial for the Total Gym, great chemistry with Christie Brinkley, a real brain trust there as well.

I'm sorry I missed some of the Saved by the Bell talk from earlier in the thread, I always like to shoot the shit about Jessie Spano, AC Slater, and company. Molt's mentioning Hayley Mills, that is some in depth Saved by the Bell knowledge, or should I say Good Morning Miss Bliss knowledge, I also like to refer to that as the pre-Kelly Kapowski era.

So I awoke from a Nyquil induced coma at around 5 this morning. If I ever wake up this early I like to flip around the channels to see what the hell comes on at that hour. Cartoon Network didn't disappoint and was showing Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos.

I was a little in and out during the episode, but apparently the bad guys were trying to attack (steal?) the space shuttle. Like all good plans it involved sending a parachuting alligator through a window to take out Chuck Norris and friends. Zoned out for a bit and then they were fighting alligators again in a swamp.

Weird shit, I was certain I dreamed the whole thing when I woke up, but checked the tv schedule and there it was...Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos.
Heads up America! Tomorrow morning (Wednesday) will see "Karate Kommandos" starting its epic 5 part tale of good and evil begin once again on Cartoon Network. It will air at 5:30 in the AM. Part 2 will air on Thursday, part 3 on Friday. Here's where it gets tricky. Part 4 will run at 5:30 AM on April 25th with part 5 closing things out the following morning of the 26th.

Adjust your TV recording devices accordingly.

You should be sterilized.

Several thousand times.

What if I was? I can raise plenty of lunatic children through black market adoptions.
But at least they wouldn't have your obviously defective genetic code.

It'd be a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.
What about the Mortal Kombat cartoon that came on the USA channel back in 97
post #97 of 125
Did either Christopher Lambert or (perhaps even better) James Remar introduce each episode of "Mortal Kombat" and then end each half hour pointing out a lesson that was learned? Because if not I can't muster much interest.
I think they had someone dressed as Raiden to give an oversite of the episode
post #99 of 125
You guys forgot two classic "R rated movie" to "Saturday morning cartoon" conversions:

Toxic Crusaders (Based on Troma's "Toxic Avenger")

and

Police Academy
Best of all these cartoon led the way for some cool toys at least in Rambo's case. I have that cool VeitCon Holding cell
