85. The Final Battle--Elmer Bernstein--Ghostbusters

I always figured a better title for this track would be "Crossing the Streams", because that's where it takes place in the movie, but it gets mention above the rest of the score (although Gozer's Appearence is a close second) becuase it's the moment when all the big theme for the movie finally gets a full resolution, in full bombastic style--but not before pausing just long enough to allow the film my favorite actual, honest-to-god character moment:

"See you on the other side, Ray."
"Nice working with you, Dr. Venkman."

It's a great touch to add the movie some real, palpable drama mixed in with the effects and the laughs, and the score here really helps sell it.

Also, my first two choices-- Man with the Harmonica and The Ecstacy of Gold--were already taken.

Not sure if you were thinking of the track that plays during Reg's killing of Karl (Gudonov), but that actual track is on the Aliens ST, which was supposed to be the track where the Queen was ejected at the end, but they ended up replaying a piece from earlier in the movie.

I learned this the hard way years ago when I bought the Die Hard ST solely for that track. (Of course, the limited edition CD may have added that track.)

Dickson: Seconded. Building the Crate - great pick.

86. The Trees, Jerry Goldsmith - Medicine Man

86. The Love Theme - Ennie Morricone - Cinema Paradiso

Morricone has done so much great stuff, in so many different movies, but this soundtrack just captures the feelings of the movie its from so well. I love it!

Nope, it didn't. Nor the piece leading into that ALIENS track (right after Gruber falls, as McClane comes out of the building), which is from John Scott's MAN ON FIRE, another Fox movie.

90. The Creation, Patrick Doyle, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Man, it's gonna get hard to track what's already been listed long before we get to 500.

<Ctrl-F> should solve that problem.

Those are two separate tracks.

94. 'The Asteroid Field' on the soundtrack to 'The Empire Strikes Back' by John Williams.

Great action sequence music, and it really adds to the entire scene in the movie. It's my favorite piece of Star Wars music, next to the 'Imperial March'. This will be my one and only submission of SW soundtrack music.

95. "Tubular Bells"-Mike Oldfield, The Exorcist
post #116 of 836
96. The Hunt - Jerry Goldsmith - THE FINAL CONFLICT
post #117 of 836
97. Kronos Unveiled, Michael Giacchino - The Incredibles

For me, The Asteroid Field is my all time favorite track, but I'm shying away from any SW related tracks, as we could probably list 80% of them here.

98. "Phone Call", Jon Brion, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
post #119 of 836
99.'Psycho' Main Title Theme-Bernard Hermann
post #120 of 836
100. Prelude and Outer Space, Bernard Herrmann, The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Best use of theremin in a movie score. The original release is classic, but I prefer the re-recording on Varese. Sample:

Hey! Two Herrmanns in a row.

107. "Bolivia Theme" by Giorgio Moroder from Scarface
post #128 of 836
108. Shawshank Prison (Stoic Theme) - Thomas Newman - SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

IMHO, one of the most indelible pieces Newman's ever written, and a pitch perfect match with that fly-over shot of Shawshank Prison.
109. Blood of Eden - Peter Gabriel feat. Sinead O'Connor from 'Until the End of the World'

Absolutley haunting song, used in a beautiful way in a flawed but at times incredible movie.
110 - vide cor meum - Hans Zimmer(?) - Hannibal

Its possible that this piece wasn't written by Zimmer, but its beautiful all the same. Ridley liked it so much he used it again in Kingdom of Heaven!
111. Barry's Kidnapping, John Williams, Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Freakiest horror music ever written. It gives me gooseflesh.
112. Main Theme, John Carpenter, THE FOG.
113. "The Legend of Ashitaka", Joe Hisaishi, Princess Mononoke
post #134 of 836
114. "Escape from the Tavern" - James Horner, Willow
post #135 of 836
115. Ice Floes, Ralph Vaughan williams, Scott of the Antarctic.

Great atmospheric music that was later reworked into Williams' Sinfonia Antarctica. It has alot more orchestral detail than the typical movie score.

here's a sample:

Yup. You're right though, I think it was written by Patrick Cassidy.

119 - Tooth and Claw by James Newton Howard from KING KONG 2005
post #140 of 836
120 - "Luke and Leia" by John Williams, from Return of the Jedi.

You only hear the track for a couple of seconds in the film, but the full track is mesmerizing.

121. Zoom A - Danny Elfman - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
post #142 of 836
I am not sure if this is the right title or not but:

122. The Gremlin Rag- Gremlins: Jerry Goldsmith.

123. 'Take My Hand' from the soundtrack to 'Dune' by Toto.

I'll probably take alot of shit for this submission, but oh well. I personally love this soundtrack, and while I question some of its usage/appropriateness in the film, the soundtrack AS A WHOLE is very well performed and produced, and it stands as a great piece of work in my opinion. This particular track plays over the end credits of the film and has a beautiful melody that uses the best elements of the entire score.

124- "No Escape" Jerry Goldsmith, Planet of the Apes

I wouldn't have guessed from your username; nice reference. And you won't get any argument from me. I love that album, especially the "Complete Score" version they released a few years ago.

125. End Title by Jerry Goldsmith from STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT

I wanted to get a suite version of Goldsmith's TMP version in, and realized I used up my chance for the original by picking "The Enterprise," so this is the next best thing: a stirring rendition of the Star Trek TMP march, along with the sumptous main title for FIRST CONTACT shoved in-between, a stirring piece of music which the watered-down clunky vehicle it underscored was unworthy of receiving.

126. "The Grand Finale'" - Danny Elfman, Edward Scissorhands

Probably the best thing he's ever written.
