Not to put any part of that score down, but Requiem belongs here WAY before any other track.

'Requiem' was going to be my post for tomorrow. When all was said and done, I was probably going to post 5 tracks from this soundtrack on here. I chose 'Kaneda' for my first post simply for its incredible percussion rhythms. I always feel exhilirated when I listen to this particular piece of music, so that's why I chose it as my first submission from this soundtrack.

You really can't go wrong with ANY submission from this soundtrack, though. If a live-action version of 'Akira' is ever made, I hope that they borrow many of the musical elements from this soundtrack. They'd probably use nu-metal instead though...

47. Closing Credits, Glory, James Horner

This entire CD is gold. I just picked a representative track.
48. "Lux Aeterna" by Clint Mansell, Requiem for a Dream

But, seriously now, the whole soundtrack is golden. The best take-off of this signature track is definitely "Marion Barfs."
49. "Midnight Cowboy" (main theme) - John Barry
post #57 of 836
Damn, 'Lux Aeterna' was going to be my next choice.

50. Back To The Future Main Theme - Alan Silvestri - BACK TO THE FUTURE
post #58 of 836
I'm shocked we got to 48 before Mansell and Requiem for a Dream were added. It's one of the very best soundtracks in history. The Remix CD...not so much.
51. Grand Canyon Fanfare, by James Newton Howard, for GRAND CANYON
post #60 of 836
52. Great Battle on the Ice, Prokofiev, Alexander Nevsky

Where's the love for Korngold, Hermann, Rosza, etc?
53. "The Omega Man" by Ron Granier obviously from The Omega Man.

A fucking amazing soundtrack.
To John Shade (you've done 2 today) and others joining the thread:

I could post 20 right now off of the top of my head (as could many of us, I'm sure), but I'm obeying the 'rules' of the thread, as set forth by Stormin.
Yup, I goofed. Apologies to all.

54. The Hours, Phillip Glass - The Hours

55. The Ice Dance, by Danny Elfman for Edward Scissorhands

56) Ping Island/Lightning Strike Rescue Op, Mark Mothersbaugh, The Life Aquatic

If I could, I'd put Ecstacy of Gold on a second time. My favorite piece from a movie score, ever.
57) Main Titles: A Clockwork Orange- Wendy Carlos.
Wasn't she 'Walter' at that point ?

There's some Herrmann love from me further up the thread, but for now:

58. "Main Title" or "Farewell" (it's the same theme) from A Place In The Sun by Franz Waxman
post #69 of 836
59. "Under Lock and Key" - Peter Gabriel, Birdy (Soundtrack)
60. 'Requiem' from the 'Akira' Soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.

Beat me to it. that was going to be my submission for tomorrow.

61. Marwood Walks - David Dundas - Withnail & I
post #72 of 836
I think also there should be a rule for people to only individually pick one track from one movie. It'd make people think a bit as well.

62. The End Of All Things by Howard Shore from THE RETURN OF THE KING
post #73 of 836
63. "Carol Anne's Theme", Jerry Goldsmith, Poltergeist
post #74 of 836
64. Neodammerung, Don Davis, The Matrix Revolutions
post #75 of 836
65. "Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra," John Williams, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
post #76 of 836
66. "Tara" - Max Steiner, Gone With the Wind

I wouldn't disagree with that. However, in a post from yesterday regarding the 'Akira' soundtrack, I kinda locked myself in to posting this track today. There are many other tracks from various films that I could cite, and future posts will reflect that.

Not as far as I know. What I mean from that is that it'll make people dig deeper than posting 100% SW or LOTR or whatever.

Thank you for clarifying. I certainly don't have a problem with you. And, for what it's worth, I agree with you 100%. I'm really enjoying this thread and seeing all of the variety. Many of the pieces mentioned on here I'll have to try and find, and that hunt will be fun.
Today some love for the brilliant Wojciech Kilar:

67. Swiatynia Dumania - Wojciech Kilar - PAN TADEUSZ

I was about to say the same thing.

To Judas Booth, I don't think you locked yourself in at all, man. This thread's a living, breathing thing.

I listened to this again just the other night. Holy fuck it's a great track. I can't wait for that ROTK complete edition soundtrack to come out, which probably won't be until the end of next year.

(EDIT: Not to get off topic, but has anyone heard Shore's score for the video game SOUL OF THE ULTIMATE NATION? I notice a lot of the specialty shops like Intrada carrying it but I know absolutely nothing about it.)
It's just such an amazing track, especially with the beautiful ending as Barad-dur falls. So intense, but so beautiful.
My favorite part's actually when Gollum gets the Ring. Middle of this amazing, hellish piece, everything just drops, all that's left is Renee Fleming's voice, and somehow, that aria makes it feel like everything's gone to hell more than the big, bombastic choir sections.

Great choice, Charlie.
68. The Wings, Gustavo Santaolalla - Brokeback Mountain
post #85 of 836
69. "I Am The Pan" - John Williams - "Hook"

I know the film ain't that great but the score is wonderful.
Okay movie, excellent score:

71. Main Titles - Rachel Portman - THE CIDER HOUSE RULES
post #87 of 836
72. Cucurrucucu Paloma -Caetano Veloso from "Happy Together"
73. "Naked Lunch (Main Titles)" by Howard Shore from Naked Lunch.

Just a great score overall, but since I had to pick just one track I decided to go with this one.
You piece of crap- that was my pick for today!!
Great track...beautifully opens the movie.

74: Fight Club-Opening titles- The Dust Brothers

I don't know what the track is actually called. I think it's Medula Oblongata but some shit head stole my copy of the CD aeons ago.

"Stealing Fat"

And great pick.
75. The Murder, Bernard Herrmann, Psycho

Is there any piece of music that's been imitated so many times?
The Black Gate Opens, Howard Shore ROTK.

I tell you what, the music to that whole trilogy is golden. Taken as a whole, it's probably the best series of movie music ever. At least in the top five. One of the reasons I enjoy those movies so much is the music. They were scored so well. Brings tears to my eyes.

"Rag Time Dance", The Sting, by Marvin Hamlisch

While researching Amazon to see if Die Hard had been released on CD for the purposes of this thread, I discovered that the soundtrack for Die Hard With a Vengeance is available for 9 American cents. Get your copy NOW!
Switch it up now, with a little jazz......

78. "Parker's Mood" - Charlie Parker, Bird (Soundtrack)
79. "Building the Crate" -- John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams, Chicken Run
post #96 of 836
80. Anakin's Betrayal by John Williams from REVENGE OF THE SITH
post #97 of 836
And now for something different...

81. 'The Wedding March' by Brian May (guitarist in Queen) on the 'Flash Gordon' soundtrack.

I almost chose the 'Battle Theme' (with its rousing power chords and synths), but I went with this instead. His version of the 'Wedding March' is an incredible display of production, with several overdubs of guitars creating a very cool effect. Of course, the vows that Ming makes Dale take after the march are interesting in and of themself. The over-the-top nature of the film is well served by this entire soundtrack.
Way to steal one of my picks, Charlie.

82. "Plasma Pool", Howard Shore, The Fly
83. Cadillac of the Skies - John Williams - EMPIRE OF THE SUN

My requisite Williams pick. I know he's written scores and themes that are massively more popular, but for me this is a favorite cue from a favorite score. I heard it again just yesterday. Bloody brilliant. Great scene too from an underrated movie.

Nice pick Dickson. That whole score is incredibly infectious.

It has been, but you won't find it on Amazon. Varese Sarabande issued a limited edition in their CD club a couple years ago. It's long been sold out but you might have some luck finding it on the secondary market.
