Fan Films

We all know they're out there, and a lot of them are pure crap, but here's where you post the ones that make the cut.

This is the latest lightsaber duel, made by a couple of high school kids. It isn't as amazingly-choreographed as Art Of The Saber but the filmmaking here reveals a great talent. The action here is not only well shot and edited but it's an honest to god exciting as fuck fight scene. I'll be watching their careers with great interest.

I've seen this one. The sword work is impressive, but their contact fighting needs work. None of the punches, kicks and sweeps have any sense of impact.

For some reason, I really like that they didn't bother with characters, costumes, sets or even a reason to be fighting. It adds some humor value to the thing, something many fan films lack.

Rough edges aside, that shows more imagination and energy than anything in Episodes II and III. Just the fact that they thought of different ways to mix up the lightsabers and force powers - especially the mental duel at the end and the payoff.

If there's no Bulbasaur rape, it's not valid as fanfiction.

This is the type of thing my films usually lose to at festivals.

What was the name of the SW one that got a lot of publicity with great effects but dodgy actors?

"The Phantom Menace"

I caught this one a couple of months ago:

A fan made his own animated film in the Silent Hill setting, and it is pretty incredible. It may be crude, but it is really well done for a fan film.

Alien sequel made with toys. Better than AVP.

Grayson
World's Finest
Batman Dead End
(Yes, I love Batman Fan FIlms)
Star Trek: the New Voyages (way better than they have any right to be, and its an ongoing series to boot)

Oh come on. I appreciate the concept, but those are deep into unintentional-parody.

In case anyone here's been living under a geek-proof rock, TheForce.net's where you can find some of the most famous fan films:

http://www.theforce.net/fanfilms/all...llfilmsa_g.asp

Here's a couple of the best ones:

The Art Of The Saber. If the prequel's post-Phantom Menace fights had some of this invention and style they'd have been much better for it, though I guess most people's biggest complaints with those movies had little to do with the lightsaber choreography.

Batman: Dead End. Visually the Joker is spot-on here, too bad the actor and the writing ain't all that great.

Grayson. The best of the best, this could be a concept I'd love to see done legitimately by Warner Brothers, though they'd never have the guts. An out-of-continuity film noir mystery where Batman is dead and all the major DC superheroes are in on it? The only major mistake here is making him Robin instead of Nightwing. Another great, Mark Hamill-esque Joker.

Troops. Fox's TV mainstay Cops only with stormtroopers on Tatooine. Good stuff.

The Star Wars Gangsta Rap. Nothing gets better than this when it comes to Star Wars parody. I nearly died laughing the first time I heard the song in high school.

I've been trying to find an mp3 of the Gangsta rap for a long time, I'm dying to throw that on a mix cd for some hilarity. Anyone know if there even is one?

Anf Grayson is akick ass Idea, and I love the fact that Dick reverts to Robin.

I really hated "Dead End." It started off well enough, trying to capture a more gritty, yet Alex Ross-influenced Batman but as soon as Aliens and Predators showed up, I realized that director/self-promoter Sandy Collora was not making a Batman short because of his passion for the character but because he was making a desperate bid to land a feature directing gig.

If you can ever track down the "Making of" check it out. It's hilariously, shamelessly and pathetically self-important. You'd think Collora was touting the glorious arrival of the next "Citizen Kane" and he, the next Orson Welles.

Dead End is one of the stupidest fucking things ever made. And that's counting Van Helsing.
Less Tarzan-esque swinging in DEAD END.
I have to join the party of those kicking Dead End. Didn't see the point, didn't understand the fan hype. It's nothing but a big geek wet dream.

And personally, I thought World's Finest was better than Grayson.

This Max Payne: Hero short is done pretty well, but the guy playing Max Payne looks nothing like the character though...

Everything but the obvious lack of real head-butt is done well.

I could have lived without the song, though.

SO. FUCKING. FUNNY.
Is there somewhere I can view all of World's Finest, or do I have to settle for the trailer. Forgive my ignorance. It knows no bounds, and Google isn't helping.
I think the trailer is all there is. Same with Grayson. They're trailers for movies that don't exist.
I didn't expect feature length, but thought maybe ten minutes or so. Oh well.

Dead End, if anyone has yet to see it.

EDIT: Didn't see it was already here. Oops.
