About damn time.

Quite possibly the only funny thing from my childhood that still elicts laughs.

My fave line was when Die Fladermaus was calling to action, and the prince of the sea, decked out in swimmies, says, "You told my mom I'd be home at six!" And Die Fladermaus sneers back, "I told your mom a lot of things."

Criminals I say to you now "KNOCK OFF ALL THAT EVIL!"
Don't count your weasels before they pop, Dink!
Morality's lease has run out and Science has been given the keys to the apartment.
You can't destroy the Earth, that's where I keep all my stuff!
I don't know the meaning of the word fear! Well, I mean I know the meaning of it, I'm not stupid.

Classic show!!

Yaaay, the comic books were better, yaaay!
The Watchmen comics were better than The Tick comics. I guess you shouldn't read The Tick.
Those were not sarcastic "yaaay"s. I like the toon, but if you really like the Tick it's worth your while to check out the classic books, K?
I think they reinforce each other. I doubt I'd have enjoyed the comics nearly as much if the show hadn't prepped me with the Tick's voice and speaking mannerisms, while at the same time certain characters in the cartoon would have just left me confused if it weren't for the comic, (Man Eating Cow, mainly.)

"There's a little boy trapped in this piece of wood!"

As brought up on another thread, Freakazoid is still needed on DVD, but it looks like WB is getting their act in gear regarding 'toons. However, the show I worry most about (since even downloading the whole run seems impossible) is Sam & Max: Freelance Police. It needs a DVD set, pronto, or it will be forever lost once the studios decide to concentrate on HD formats.

And yes, the comics are better for that one.

Awesome. Now we can all relive one of the most unsung characters of all time: The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight.

"You'll never prove a thing copper, I'm just a part time electrician. I... I... I... BAD IS GOOD, BABY! DOWN WITH GOVERNMENT!"

"So he says to me, 'You wanna be a baaaaad guy?' And I say yeah, baby! I wanna be bad! I SAYS, SURF'S UP SPACE PONIES! I'M MAKING GRAVY WITHOUT THE LUMPS!"

"And so he says, 'I don't like the cut of your jib.' And I go I says, IT'S THE ONLY JIB I GOT, BABY!"

Well you certainly didn't get that across even without sarcastic yays.

Sweet. I never watched it back in the day, but lately I've seen a few episodes and the writing is excellent.

This was a staple of my saturday mornings when I was a kid, I can't wait to see speak and little wooden boy again.

Greatest Tick villain ever:

"So he says to me, he say, 'I like ya kid, but ya need a gimmick, see?'; so I go 'you want a gimmick, how about HIGH EXPLOSIVES! Yeah baby!'"

"You keep playin' with fire, YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH FIRE YOU'RE PLAYIN' WITH!"

...not to mention the battle with Barry ("I'm the Tick"

Now all we need is Mighty Mouse: the New Adventures to make it to DVD.
Awesome.

Random Tick tidbits...
The Indigestable Man rules!
"We're filth, we're filth! We come from filth we're going to filth! We're filth!"
"Rocket from the socket!" and from the same episode, "I'm full of tinier men!"

I hope this is a great set. How long did the 'toon run anyway? Anyone know an episode count?

s1 - 13 eps
s2 - 13 eps
s3 - 10 eps

One set released together would be fantastic, but I'd realistically expect them to break it up into a couple chunks, as with Batman: TAS, or just release 3 season sets.

"I hate broccolli ... and yet, I am broccolli."

"I will call you Speak, for that is what you do!"

"Who's the jerk that calls himself the Tick?"
"I'M THAT JERK!"

I would dance in the street naked if that happened. So maybe it shouldn't. That show was hilarious, and it seems that hardly anyone watched it.

Thanks man. Yeah, I imagine we'll be getting 3 mini sets, kind of like what was done with Invader Zim.

And good, this means me grabbing the DVD 'collection' of "Freakazoid" over "The Tick" was a good decision last year at Dragon*Con.

"It's your turn now, Thorace-bog!"
"It's Thrakkorzog! Thrakkorzog! With a K!"
"We're only serving humble pie, Whatchamazog!"
"For the last time, it's... "
"Thorax in a bog? Four yaks and a dog?"
"No!"
"Uhh, laxative log!"
"No, no, no!"
"Sapsucker-frog."
"Thrakkorzog!"
"....Susan?
"....oh, now you're doing it on purpose. How juvenile."

You want Freakazoid or Sam & Max on DVD? All I gotta do is buy a bootleg. Dammit. First Mission Hill and now The Tick.

Oh well, my bootleg's quality isn't that great. This is quite possibly the greatest cartoon ever.

Well I've downloaded as many as I fuckin' can, but I was of the understanding, particularly with Sam & Max, that not every ep was up for download/boot as some eps only aired once and didn't allow for many interested parties to fire up their VCRs.

I've got low-quality bootleg VCDs too, but I'll not mind at all buying the DVDs for this.

Love just about everything about this show. Those retired Superheroes were pretty sharp.

More details from Digital Bits.com:

Quote:
Okay... we start today with a follow-up on Buena Vista's The Tick: Season One for 8/29, which we mentioned yesterday. As it turns out, it's no longer going to be called The Tick: Season One... but instead, The Tick: The Belated 10th Anniversary Edition. The revised press release indicates that the 2-disc set is only going to include 12 of the first season's 13 episodes. One of the episodes was apparently derailed from inclusion on the DVD release due to legal complications. That's really a shame. We hope to have exact details as to which episode had to be dropped and why soon.
The web page also has a picture of the DVD cover.

I've been following the saga here:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5708

Really sucks that one of the season 1 episodes has been pulled from the DVD. Some speculation suggests it is either the Chairface Chippendale or Breadmaster episode, because of copyright infringement? But both of those episodes have been showing on Toon Disney channel - and I haven't heard of any season 1 episode that hasn't aired on that channel. And the Chippendale episode was on one of the few official VHS releases.

So what is causing one of the episodes to get pulled from the DVD?

Of course, broadcast rights and home video rights are very different things. You often see this become an issue with songs in a movie (like "I Love the Night LIfe" in Love at First Bite, and "This Is The Life" in Johnny Dangerously), where you'll see the song included on broadcast television, but replaced on video, due to the musical distribution rights being retained for whatever reason. This is also what kept Heavy Metal off of home video for decades, as they had many artists and labels to deal with.

Same deal with the Muppet Show. It really sucks when their guest star sings songs and then those skits are cut from the dvd release. What are they gonna do for the Alice Cooper & Debbie Harry eps?

Never saw an episode of this, as I stopped watching most animated series years ago.

But, based on the good stuff I've heard, I am willing to give this a rent.

It's quite funny, in a very offbeat manner. There are several episodes floating around Youtube.
