'SILENT HILL' Discussion and Review

Well, one week until, what looks like, the creepiest and most disturbing video game-to-film adaptation since SUPER MARIO BROTHERS fucked with our heads (albiet not it's intention). I am really looking forward to SILENT HILL. I like the fact that there hasn't been a barrage of hype. I like that it's imagery appears to be a faithful and effective transition from game to film. I also appreciate the fact that Gans went for, and got, an R rating.

I know it's too early to tell... But it does look like SILENT HILL is not fucking around.

I've got a really strong feeling this is going to kick ass on so many levels.

Brad thinks it will too.

Is there a lot of backstory and explanation of the story in the game? Because watching the trailer, I thought it would be really cool if, aside from the cursory town fire mention, there would be little to no understanding as to what caused this town.

You do realise we now have 5 fucking threads devoted to this movie, right.

Yep. I also realize that this is the only current thread in The Creature Corner on the subject. Believe it or not there are people who do not read the forums outside of The Corner. Granted not as many as in the past. But we are trying to fix that. Either way we are the horror extension of CHUD and I see no problem with starting a conversation about a horror film in the horror forum.

But thanks for taking the time to total them up.

I can understand the reasoning behind having two threads, one central one and one creature corner one. I was just commenting on the fact that if you do a title search for Silent Hill you get 8 threads, 5 of which are fairly active, including one in the creature corner besides this.

I'm looking forward to the film but the movie is reaching near Star Wars levels of thread proliferation (sp).

It's not as bad as Russ Fischer makes out, it's not as good as some other make out. It looks incredible, has some very poor dialouge, and a bit of a dodgy narrative. If you're a fan of the game you'll have a blast.

Loved it but having only played 1 and 3 in the series, and not getting very far into the third, I'm not quite sure where the pyramid head creature comes from. And the whole religious fanaticism left a really bad taste in my mouth, but then most forms of fanaticism do, be it racial, religious or other

I went and seen this movie on Friday and it was okay. But for whatever reason it was sold out. That really suprised me, I think they even oversold the movie too, there was kids sitting on the floor. But overall the movie was fucking odd and not to bad.

Pyramid Head is from Silent Hill 2. He's great in the movie, and even better in the game (where he is given a backstory and is creepier, with a nasty predilection for store mannequins)

I love the movie too, it's gorgeous looking and sounding and pretty faithful to the games, with some excellent horror moneyshots. seriously, everything looks so damn sexy- the town, Pyramid Head, the grey freaks, the Janitor, Radha Mitchell running around in F-Me boots... As I think one of those reviews at Ain't It Cool mentioned, it's definitely operating on a Eurohorror dream logic level (although this film reminds me of Soavi's The Church more than any of the Bavas or Argentos). Great stuff.
