"The Descent" for real!

Thread Starter
I just found this very interesting journal made by a cave explorer that could have inspired the events in "The Descent"

It's old so the pics might not work but it's a chilling tale. It would make for an excellent Twilight Zone episode.

Warning it's a long read!

Sounds like it's straight from The Descent (The Jeff Long novel, that is). Particularly the section with the shrieking. Too bad all the pics are down, though.

Too bad it's a load of crap. Of course there's a cliffhanger and numerous mentions about the shrieks seeming to come from Hades itself, from tormented demons, etc. The Descent was a good flick, though I haven't read the book. This whole fake cave account reminds me a little bit of House of Leaves as well. And yeah, too bad the pictures aren't available because the page they're supposed to be on expired a week ago.

Cool. I dig stuff like this, even if it is a load of shit. Good late night reading.

Never heard of The Descent though. Is it worth a read/viewing?

Haven't seen the flick, but I can recommend the book.

The Descent the movie and The descent the novel, have very little to do with each other. Well apart from the fact the characters in both of them enter caves with creatures in those said caves. The movie is not Based on the book, is what I'm trying to get accross here.

Both are worthy of your time (the movie is much much more worthy of your time)

I don't know if I could say that "The Descent"--the novel--is worth your time. The first hundred pages or so are OK, but it gets bogged down after that. If you're borrowing a friend's cabin in the mountains and that happens to be the only book there, I'd read it. Otherwise, give it a pass. Life is too short to waste.

Yeah, the old Descent games were actually the first thing I thought of when I clicked on this thread.
