So lets put that studio gross so far at about $60 million.
The cost of the film was about $5 million and the estimated advertising cost is listed at $18 million (which I assume is domestic only). It opened on 2337 screens, so with print costs of about $5000 a copy, thats an additional $12 million in costs there. We can assume that more prints were struck for worldwide release, but I won't hazard a guess there. So total cost was about 35 million. That leaves us with $25 million in the studio's hands, not counting whatever deal they paid Tarantino for the "Presented by" credit. (a million?) Considering that DVD sales are almost NEVER released to the public (unlike album sales) you would be hard pressed to find out how many were sold and since it just came out on April 18th, I think its safe to say that it didn't sell enough copies at Wal-mart to make $200 million. Profitable? Certainly. $300 million? No chance in hell. |
