I've found a new fad

Thread Starter
A guy I work with turned me on to this crazy new fad that's sweeping the nation. It's just about the funniest thing I've ever seen, and I wanted to let you guys in on it too!

Can you believe this?!

So what do the rocks do? Do they like...just sit there? Cause, ya know, that'd NEVER sell.

I dunno...I hear they're pretty hard to house train.

So they just... sit there?

I'll take three!

As bad as the Banzai Kitties.

I KNOW! I'll glue a bunch of rocks together and call it a rock band! I'll make millions.

My personal opinion: don't get any. When they die, it's rough, I tells ya...

I have had the same pet rock for 10 years her name is phoenix and she lives on my book case, but shes eating me out of house and home, and cleaning up the pebbles is becoming a real hassle I am considering putting her down. I rescued her from becoming a drive way.

It's a game for people who think tech gadgets are cool, but aren't smart enough to understand what they are actually for.

I am sorry, did we just jump back in time 25 years?!?

Sometimes you really have to project for the cheap seats.

I have friends who do this and they're all smarter than you.

Highly unlikely. To support that, I'll point out that I don't waste my free time playing a glorified version of "Hide and Seek". Instead, I bill consulting hourly fees for reading/posting on a message board.
I understand how that illustrates your poor work ethic and blatant dishonesty, but not your intelligence.
The billing hours was a preemptive quip for the inevitable "instead you post on a message board..." rejoinder.

Regardless, Let's not waste time comparing academic accreditations, IQ test scores, or financial statements as exemplifications of superior intellect. Instead, please explain to me what entertainment your "friends" derive from navigating to a a pre-determined point via electronic global positioning device.

As that seems as entertaining as someone telling you to "go to the corner of 3rd and main street, and feel free to use mapquest to find it", there must be some obfuscated intellectual stimulation inherent that I lack the acumen to discern.

Inevitable? It hadn't occured to me. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.

It's not nearly that simple. GPS's aren't accurate enough to lead you directly to a cache, locations aren't always easy to get to, and caches can be well hidden.

As for why it's entertaining, why is anything entertaining? Why do people watch cockfights or Friends? As an avid hiker, the entertainment value in stomping around exploring one's home town in a different light is obvious to me. I don't know if I'd be keen on going out in the dead of winter to do this, but it's a fine way to get some fresh air and exercise.

I don't know why you put friends in quotes, either. Until Friday, I'd never done this. Friends of mine back home are into it. One of them bought a remarkable fancy GPS so he gave me his perfectly serviceable if obsolete starter unit when I was in town over the weekend. So there.

And therein explains why the lady doth protest too much. Riddle solved.

What riddle? What are you talking about?

The things you say make no sense.
