Why the AVP2 thread is gone.

Please start one fresh, but be careful what you type.

I'm confused. No excerpts from the script were posted here, only a link to an AICN story that has since been retracted. And there's nothing illegal about debating rumored plot points. And it seems like it would have been a lot easier to just delete a single offending post instead of the entire thread, right?

If the thread was deleted because something illegal was posted, let us know so we don't make the same mistake again. If the entire thread was deleted because people were talking shit on the guy writing your movie, on the other hand, I have a pretty big problem with that.

There wasn't one offending post, there were several, and since the whole discussion is based on a sham and since a few logins were hacked, I did the right thing and sent it packing. Plus, it was about another's site's possibly bogus review of a script that is most likely not legit or at least not totally legit.

Anyhow, piss and moan if you want to. I've got no time for bullshit like this. We dealt with cease and desists and crap five years ago. I'd rather protect THIS site.

I've called Salerno and hope to get his take soon.
What's this about hacked logins? What happened there?
Were you guys actually asked to remove the thread? AICN, who WERE contacted by Fox, didn't even take down their plot-point-laden thread about the script...

It was suggested I stay out of this fight, which isn't ours in the first place. Verbal Kint's login was hijacked, for one.
Come on, that's fucking nonsense. The ONLY post in that thread that was even remotely shady was Bizarro Verbal's, and that would have been easy enough to remove on its own without deleting the discussion that was already taking place. Nobody had broken any laws. Nobody other than Fake Verbal was trolling.

Not to mention the fact that the main argument taking place between Dave, Devin and myself had nothing to do with Fox or their script and everything to do with the nature of criticism itself and internet ethics and morals. Which is kind of funny in retrospect.

Whatever your reason, this move reeks of "people are talking shit on my business partner, so I'm erasing their entire conversation." And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a problem with that.

It seems like an odd decision to delete the thread, some good discussion there about the role of a screenwriter, but I understand the desire to keep this site out of legal turmoil.

Did a cease and desist letter put the kybosh on the Lundgren interview?

EDITED because the proper spelling of "cease" is cease and not "ceast" as I wish to God it was.

Slater, who the fuck do you think you are? Spokesman for the common man? You should be glad your babbling little skirmish is gone. Bottom line, I made a decision based on 8 years of experience in this field knowing what kind of fires I don't want to be involved in. If it turns out I jumped the gun, I can live with that. If I kept it and got lumped in, I can't.

I find it more likely that it was destroyed by government agents to preserve state secrets.

Yeah, because not wanting to have my conversation-in-progress censored and deleted makes me a troll.

Seriously, Nick: quit Hollywood. It's turning you into a prick.

I've been a prick all along, that's not up for debate. You just used to be on my good side. Just like you used to be on the good side of the United States.

Kind of sad that questioning the talent of the screenwriter of ALIEN VS. PREDATOR, SHAFT and 1/10th of ARMAGEDDON was all it took to change that, huh?

Anyway, you're welcome for what was literally thousands of hours of free work I put into writing for the main page over a five year period. Good luck with your life and your career. I'm not leaving CHUD, but I'm sure as fuck done with you.
I'm still confused as to the threatening legal issue here. Is this CHUD sidestepping AICN's shit, or what?

Question for Mr. Nunziata

Hey Nick,

This is a little off topic, but I really miss your unique voice as a film critic/essayist (and I don't mean that to take away from the quality work done by all the other people who write here). You have a very conversational style that very few other writers seem to use. It was casual-feeling without diverging from the point or losing focus.

I was just wondering if you ever miss writing about film publicly, or if you're so busy with other projects that it doesn't feel that different? Just curious.

No, you've been such a jerk for the past 6 months I just got tired of you thinking you had some special bit of leeway here. As for your writing for CHUD, I think it's fair to say that you got more readers, attention, and feedback for the stuff you wrote here than you ever got anywhere else and build your own little readership from it. Your holiday orgies and whatnot. You got to grow up as a writer here, going from a clone of a certain someone to whatever it is you are now.

My killing the thing has a few reasons, the overriding one being that I'm not going to risk this site on a frivolous bit of bullshit on another site, one that could give a damn about us anyway. I have a family and almost a decade of this site being on the web to consider. I still have plans for this place and now have firsthand experience how expensive legal help is.

As for wishing my luck, I'm confused. You tell me to quit and then you wish me luck. Make up your mind.

Not that I really give two shits or one shit, for that matter, about A sequel to AVP, but what's this about a sham and bogus script review? Are you saying that Moriarty's script review was purposely misleading or that he was the victim of a fake script? I didn't get a chance to read the review so I'm genuinely out of the loop on this little fiasco.

I miss doing it, but I don't have it in me to cover films anymore. In a way, the process wrecked what I used to be. It's why the Lundgren interview is useless. I just don't do a good job at it anymore.

It's just something I really don't understand all the details and motivations of, but when I hear that CHUD's thread is being printed out at studios and being lumped in with others', I have a responsibility.
But were there passages from the script being quoted in the thread? What sort of legal ramifications could CHUD have faced if it was just disscussion and not script fragments? And if the script was a fake anyway... I'm just a bit confused about what sort of legal hassles you could have been facing.

Same here... if Ain't It Cool's original message board discussion is still up, keeping in mind that their's was the site issued the cease and desist, why can't Chud keep its discussion thread about a script review on another site?

I can understand not wanting to tarnish Chud's relationships with the studios, but does this mean that any conversation thread that might draw their ire will be up for deletion?

I understand what you're saying, I think. I guess sometimes reality can't live up to the ideal. Kind of sad, but what can you do?

That's perfectly understandable. If AICN is getting in trouble that Chud doesn't know the details of, cut off the finger to save the hand.

Hey fuckers, this is Nick's lively hood that you are fucking around with and tossing about. If it doesn't work for his shit, then drop it. What does it matter to us WTF happened? If it has the possibility of fucking up his life, then by all means Nick should pull the shit.

Fuck us, our lives will still go on the same tomorrow whatever happens, his may not.

As sad as I am to hear that the Lundgren interview is useless I still wish it would be run. Look at the response that was generated when it was announced (and not just the sorry ones toward the end of that thread where I'm crying for attention). I'm sure that interview would be better than whatever AVP2 ends up being, unless Lundgren is in AVP2 or something.

If it means so much, I'll email you the embarrasing tape and you can transcribe it yourself.

You got it! Just give me a day or two to finish my "Karate Kommandos" dissertation. Then I'll be totally focused.

Don't die, Nick...

EDIT: The abs on that Hard Candy girl in the banner ads are giving me nightwood.
I don't think Lundgren would do AVP, as that would just be following in the muscles from Brussels' footsteps. Anyway, let's hear what he had to say.

I'm signing off this debate. Sorry I got involved at all, but it's better to be cautious than ignorant. I don't have all the info. I'm getting hit from a few directions and who knows, I may lose some friends at AICN. Bottom line, I have heard a variety of things about this, and I don't want to take the time to research them. It's not our deal. We shouldn't have even been dragged into it. To sum up:

1. I like Shane Salerno and what I've read of his stuff. As a friend of his I do want to defend him but more importantly, I want to keep our relationship focused on our stuff. Not this kind of stuff.

2. I like Drew McWeeny and always defended him as my favorite writer over there. We've been through some crap together, but I don't have any real knowledge of why he'd review the script, if it's legit (I've been told a variety of things about it), or about web ethics and all that. It's not my business or my deal.

3. I want this site to be this site. People always try to drag AICN over here and either discuss their stuff or create a rift or whatever.

4. I have plans for this site that could be affected by silly shit just like this. I'd rather circle the wagons than get a bigger headache.

I'll lock this now. Feel free to start your own AVP discussion. Sorry for the drama.
