It's about time!!

I'm overjoyed that this is finally being released. I always feel kind of guilty when I let people borrow my Season 1 DVDs and get them turned on to the show since they'll end up getting no closure.

I've read a few reports from the recent CarnyCon in which Daniel Knauf claimed that Marvel Comics (who he is currently writing Iron Man for) was very interested in continuing Carnivale in graphic novel form. Unfortunately, HBO is completely unwilling to let go of the rights to Carnivale. There's also a lot of rumors swirling about HBO wanting to continue the series with a movie or bring the show back. I know Knauf has said a million times that he thinks it's a cop out to try and cram four seasons worth of show into a two hour movie to provide closure.

I just want the story to continue in some format. Graphic novel would be great, a miniseries would be even better, and uncancelling the show, well, that just might make me reconsider my atheism.

As much as I don't want to get my hopes up, I've been thinking lately that the show could gather a following through the DVDs easier than on TV. I got the first season DVDs for Christmas a little over a year ago, and that one set has gotten at least 10 people hooked on the show. Of course, I don't think any of those people will be shelling out $99 bucks for the second season (which they've mostly seen through OnDemand), so I have no idea how HBO would find out about that kind of expansion of the audience.

Sweet. Looking forward to the commentaries. Hell, just looking forward to finally having this on my DVD shelf.

Here's some interesting tidbits from CarnyCon if anyone wants to know what would have happened in Season 3. I guess these could be considered spoilers if you're an optimistic person and think the series will continue eventually. These are copied from Yahoo board posts.
  • The third season would open with Justin giving a sermon. We would pull out and see Iris on one side and Sofie on the other. Then a three year old boy would run up, leaving the question as to whose son.
  • Ben would start to gather the troupe back together over the course of the season. While the third season would have a carnival, it wouldn't be Carnivale, which had dispersed.
  • We would see Jonesy playing professional baseball with Libby as a baseball-wife in a nice apartment. When he was called back by Ben, Libby would be reluctant since she had finally escaped from that life.
  • Stumpy and Rita-Sue have been on the alligator farm in Florida.
  • DK told us thatpossibly the most "heroic" character in the show is Justin! Because he's known what he is, at least unconsciously, since childhood, and has been actively battling it--"waging war" against it by seeking to make himself a man of God, a minister. DK said that while Scudder had simply tried to run away, Justin was more noble because he had "waged war." And his giving in and embracing Darkness in Season 2 wan't meant to be permanent. His battle would have continued in subsequent seasons--while changes in Ben would have left us in doubt as to who was truly good, who evil. DK said the Ben of Season 3 would have been VERY different (his emphasis) from the Ben we knew.
  • Lodz, while merely a human, has the unique perspective afforded by having interacted with both Houses. He is at heart a pragmatist, and has come to the conclusion that *both* Houses, Light and Dark, have in essence been keeping mankind in subjugation. His primary agenda is to gather power to himself to change this state of affairs. DK had plans for Lodz throughout the entire saga, but HBO wanted somebody to die at the end of the first season and that person was Lodz.
  • Wounds inflicted by an anointed blade don't fully heal, so both Justin and Ben are now marked with such wounds since the both the scythe and the dagger were such weapons.

I would have been disappointed if they had used any other image for the box art. These HBO sets are so damn expensive but I'll buy this one. Costco should have a good deal on it.

And it just occured to me the other day that T-bag on Prison Break was Tommy Dolan!

awesome to here that this is finally coming out. i'm still pissed at hbo for canceling it. i'm sure season 3 would've been fantastic.

Wow. Lot of info in that Carnycon thing. The Carnivale being disbanded and reassembled three years later is not what I would've expected, but I guess there had to be a jump forward in time somewhere.

The Lodz thing is interesting, as I had no idea HBO pressured Knauf to kill him off (I guess Appollonia didn't count). I wouldn't change that though, because the season one finale is damn near perfect imo.

Nope. The last we saw was him laying on the ground and Knauff said after he found out there would be no season 3 that Jonesy would have survived.

But if there was a season three he would have died?

Let me expand on my comment above.

In the season 2 finale it was left in the open as to whether Jonesy survived. Since HBO did not ask for another season Knauf went ahead and revealed that Jonesy did not die in the season 2 finale, he was just wounded.

Just finished season 2, fuck. What a goddamn shame this show got cancelled. Any word on whether it'll ever get finished through another medium?

HBO own's the rights. Knauf said he wouldn't be able to write a graphic novel or anything else because of that.
