Superman Returns footage

I'll take back what I said in the X-Men 3 thread about these types of clips never really looking exciting. That was just 8 seconds of footage and now the release date seems too damn far away. Looks very good, that part where he slowly turns while flying is great. There's something a little off with the lighting in the part with the plane but with a clip like this it's hard to tell how it's going to look on the big srceen.

How does his hair blow upward when he's flying backward? HE IS AN ALIEN!

Wow. Superman really fucking hates books.

anywho, I put a snip of the Williams theme on the clip.

I'm really stoked to see this film, more than I am with the last stand of the xmen....

Tom Welling's presence wouldn't have improved that clip in any measurable way, so I guess that is something.

Is there something about computer effects that don't translate as well to a smaller screen as traditional sfx? I've found more than a few movies just recently (Kong, ROTS, Sky Captain) that look like animated poo-poo on my TV after impressing me in theaters. And the effects there didn't look that great but I bet it'll be, well, super on the big screen. Is it just me?

Mh.

Not much to discuss here I guess. Leaves a better impression than Hugh Jackman Vs two light bulbs in a dark hall though.

What does this statement mean?

Nice. So, anyone have any idea when we're getting the full trailer for this? My guess would be attached to Poseidon, but it'd be nice to have some official confirmation.

Awesome. But that super hair is a continuity mindfuck.

My guess is that you'll get to see the full trailer with Mission: Impossible 3. Too bad these things are rarely international, so I'll propably get to see it sometime in June.

M:I-3 and Poseidon, but rumours say it'll be online tomorrow or wednesday.

Just a quiet laugh at the expense of Tom Welling fans. I meant for it to be in the bitter voice of someone who wanted Smallville-The Movie and can only grudgingly pay the trailer any respect. And now you have made me explain my post, which robs it of any pathetic snark it might have carried and just makes me look lame. Thanks a lot.

Sorry. That's a pretty complicated layer of snark. There's no emoticon that could have adequately covered that.

Are there still people trying to make the case for Tom Welling? That's sad.

On the Footage - It was an excellent display of what is to come, but remember one thing: When King Kong was on the cusp of release, Volkswagon released a commmercial featuring the big unlovable ape, and the effects looked pretty tame. I am betting that some of this footage is of the same vein. Unused footage sold to Coca Cola. Thats my guess, but at the same time, I think it looked pretty spectacular for what it was. I can't think straight! I can't wait for this to be released!

On Tom Welling - I was up for Welling as Superman just around the time Batman Begins hit theatres. It was around that time I think my blind love for the guy on the showdissapatedm and I then realised he is quite a terrible actor. Then I noticed he got far worse as every episode came and went. I haven't seen the Fog, but I have heard countless times he was terrible in that. I did see Cheaper by the Dozen, and he was passable in that, but again, this was before last summer. Welling seems to get worse with each episode this year.

I don't understand why people still champion Smallville and Welling. It's a horrid show, and he's a pretty bland, lifeless actor.

I got thoroughly sick of the kryptonite mutant of the week formula before the first season ended. I came back briefly when I heard that the show was progressing toward something, about the time the voice of Jor-El showed up, and Christopher Reeve made an appearance. Those were not bad. Then it went right back to the kryptonite mutant of the week, and I stopped watching again. It's a shame about the show, because John Schneider and Michael Rosenbaum both do great work on it; the rest of it just fails to support them at all.

The problem w/ "Smallville" is inherent in the concept, and the title, it's Smallville, for God's sake! Nothing happens there.
I remember when this was just in the planning stages and was in a run-off w/ a proposed "Bruce Wayne" series that would basically follow the concept; "Batman Begins" threw that out the window, but I would have almost preferred that as it allows for more varied and plausible storylines (training, world travel, international intrigue, ala James Bond).

I just never liked the idea of Dawson's Kryptonite. Who gives a dick about Superman in short pants? I want to see Superman punch the shit out of Mongul.

To be fair, most of the people I ran into crying about the lack of Welling in Superman Returns were posters on AICN's boards. Is that an insult to AICN, or a further insult to Welling fans? You decide!

I will say that Welling to me LOOKS GREAT as a young Superman. Spot on. And I'm not sure you need a ton of range to play Supes, at least not in a movie or two. But I don't think Welling has the depth to play Michael Myers.
I wouldn't say it takes great range to play Superman, but Clark Kent should be a little more complicated, if he's done correctly.

I guess I'm one of the only ones less than impressed...The action looks well done and the casting of Olsen, White and Luther are all excellent, but silly me, I think the casting of the 2 leads is terrible...Routh looks like nothing is going on behind his eyes and Bosworth is too "girl next door" to have the spitfire of Lois Lane....

But I'm incredibly biased and blame Singer for the impending disaster that is XMEN 3.
Yes, because it's completely Singer's fault that Fox is screwing up their franchise.
