Mother's Day...

Just a reminder to all the other Chewers that Mother's Day is Sunday (in the event you're not reminded by tv or the internet)... so if you have to mail a card, get it to the post office tomorrow. I just moved a couple thousand miles away from my hometown this past year (outta her house for 9 years... nice try, smartasses) so it'll be the 1st Mother's Day in 30 years that I won't get to spend with her...

If you don't send a card/flowers, remember to call. That is all...

I'm ashamed to say that when I first looked at this, the Shaft thing threw me off big-time.

Then I came back about an hour later, stared at it for a second, and started humming the theme. "He's a bad mother- OH. I get it."

Mother's Day would not be the same without dear sweet Beverly.

Just to rub it in:

I don't think anything can beat Shaft, though.

For any of you family men out there - do you buy your wife gifts on mother's day (assuming, of course, that the two of you have children)? I mentioned that I was going to do just that and got a lot of odd looks from some co-workers.

My dad always bought stuff for my mom. I don't have kids myself, which I think most everyone should know by now. It doesn't seem like a problem to me.

No. Don't be that guy. Don't give in to the consumer mentality.
When we had just the one baby, we would do something nice of her choice that day. But no matter what the commercials tell you, husbands shouldn't be buying diamond necklaces for their wives.

I plan on taking my wife someplace or making it so she doesn't have to cook. My daughter's almost 3, so we picked out a card and I bought a nice hardcover set of Baum's OZ stories for my wife to read to the little one since she likes Wizard of Oz so much.

F**k expensive jewelry on this holiday. I worked at the mall back in the day and there were enough jewelry stores and "precious" gems to cover my car with. Rare? Bullshit.

She got me a diamond necklace.

Seriously, besides a crayon-scribbled card, I can't remember. I think we might have gone to the beach or the zoo sometime that weekend.

Well no it's nothing extravagant like that, I bought her a pair of sandals that she's had her eye on. I'll take my daughter to the store to let her pick something out and that's that. I guess I don't see what's wrong with buying her a little thoughtful gift on what's supposed to be her day.

Buy her a vest, made from real gorilla chest. I hear they're all the rage.

Did anyone do anything interesting for the moms yesterday?

Me, I used the proceeds of my tax refund and took the parents down to Austin to the Drafthouse, where they served a five-course gourmet meal to go along with a screening of SABRINA. A nice time was had by all.
