Yep......MP completely crashed.....I've been stuck at 52 percent for about 20 minutes now.

Not shocked in the least.....In fact it's exactly what I expected.
I was at 14% after 45 minutes, which is ridiculous. And that also featured getting booted off Live once. It's been another half an hour but I don't have any dreams of this getting finished tonight. Everything else I have on my network downloads shit in no time. What the hell is going on my with 369?
so the JFC finale ended (fucking weird, man) and I was still at 45%. Being the impatient soul that I am I tried all manner of chicanery to get this thing going again. I stopped the download, restarted it. Turned my box on, turned my box off. Stopped it again, deleted it, started it again. Download started again at a blazing speed. Just got to 43% and wouldn't you know it, STUCK AGAIN. For the last 20 minutes or so. Should I just let this thing ride?
After nearly a half hour being stuck at 52% I cancelled the DL and restarted......After being stuck at 52% for 15 minutes I cancelled the DL and restarted......I've been stuck at 56% ever since.

Not surprised in the least.
in the 30 minutes or so since that post I've inched up to 44%. I have one friend on my list who actually managed to snag it and play it. He sent out a message to the rest of us poor saps who couldn't get it in... "HAI GUYS, BIOSHOCK IS COOL!!! KTHXBAI!"

I'm going to punch him in the spine tomorrow.

I don't think you'll do it.

Been stuck at 58% for sometime now......Should have been finished....It'll be a miracle if I get it finished before sunrise.

Fucking hell this shit was old a year ago.
Tried downloading this 30-45 minutes ago but it never went past 1%.

This sucks. I never had any problems downloading the Stranglehold demo.
Managed to get to 62%......that's with constant cancelling and restarting the download.

I give up on them ever being properly prepared for things like this....."Hey it's just Bioshock and it's a sunday night.....Lets release the demo to every part of the world except japan at the same time.

Fucking morons.
Got to 66% then got kicked off just now. Back to square one.
You think this is bad, just wait until the Call Of Duty 4 MP beta goes live.

10 minutes, 7%. Yee ha.
Wow, this game's pretty great. Nice graphics and atmosphere. The story also seems interesting too. I definitely need to pick this up when it's released.
Took over 4 hours but finally got it downloaded and played thru it twice.

Right now.....Based off of this demo alone and until I play Mass Effect.....Bioshock is the game of the year.

I'd have to remove him from my friend's list just for typing "KTHXBAI!", never mind the fact he got the demo.
Fuck you, fucking Xbox fucking Live fucking Gold, you goddamn fucking piece of shit. If this service were free, I could understand not downloading the fucking thing. But it's not. I fucking pay MONEY for this fucking shitty ass service. Fucking fuck fuck fuck.

But I did finish Hot Fuzz while watching it go from 71% to 71%.
It only took about 30 minutes for the demo to download for me. But I didn't have my 360 on while it was downloading. Don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Agreed.
I wa just ocming on here to say that I just woke up and it was finished downloading, and that I was debating whether or not to play now.

I think you guys decided for me. Playing it is.
god damn amazing. So many touches to speak of. Game had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times.

Took awhile to figure out how to hack the bots.

Was it scripted or random that the lady you relieved the tommy gun from waved her hands and feet after death? That made me laugh.
This game is a real beauty, a product of great imagination. And the atmosphere is thoroughly engrossing.

My only problem is that, for me, that kind of dark, moody atmosphere can really wear me down, and thus it's unlikely that I'll be able to play this in long stretches. Still, I'm extremely interested in finding out where this is going to go, and so Stranglehold is going to have to fuck off for a while.
My download finished about 5 am, about when I ended a good few rounds of Smash Bros multiplayer, and instead of going right to bed I dug in and gave it a whirl.

My wallet weeps, for it is about to lose another $60. Now the main problem is going to be getting to sleep because there were a couple bits in that demo that drew white knuckles from me.

Yeah, and this surprised me. It's been a couple years since any game has been able to genuinely creep me out in the slightest, but this one did it. That probably contributes to the weariness factor too.
Holy shit. Too think I considered Stranglehold a great demo. If everything remains that solid, atmosphere, music, combat... Game of the year for sure.

I personally loved the intro video as you come into Rapture. The reveal of the city inspired this weird feeling of awe in me I rarely feel nowadays.
I was feeling the awe even before that, when you're swimming and see the tail of the plane next to the tower that really shouldn't be there. I saw the plane and said, "Oh shit, wow." I saw the tower and said nothing, but my eyes got real big.

Seriously, though, all in all, the production design on this fucker is totally unparalleled.
No question. Come to think of it my first wow moment was when you broke the surface of the water. The water speck effect on your screen combined with the fire is just a beautiful thing.
yes, the first wow moment for me was breaking the surface. I didn't even realize I was in game and was now free to move. "Holy fuck almighty" were my first words. I've played just that intro sequence to the elevator about 5 times this morning. The plane crash sequence is great. The lights coming on for you as you progress through. The sound. The music. Just... wow. Holy shit.

And you're right, I probably won't punch my friend in the spine today because I'm so thoroughly filled with goodwill towards all men after such an amazing feat of awesome.
Lol! This demo is Jesus.
close enough for me.
I really, really liked the approach to the elevator, when the lights are turning on for you. The feeling of old, left-behind technology was really interesting and creepy.

Of course, "the" moment of the demo for me was definitely the big reveal of the city. Especially when you see that whale. This is the type of game where I find myself wanting to stop and look at every detail, read every sign. The world that's been created here is really unique and interesting.

Something that surprised me was, I did not expect the enemies in this game to be anything more than zombies, similar to the basic enemies from System Shock 2. I was really happy to find they are actually people, who do all sorts of neat and creepy things (the lady talking the baby cart was my favorite so far).

Was it just me, or was the fire power cool, but a lot less useful than lightning? It just seems more efficient to stun them and kill them, or just shoot them. I'm sure it'll be more effective later, maybe in combination with some aspect of the environment.

Last thing, I do hope there's more of an introduction to the story than we get here. I barely realized I was on a plane before it crashed, not to mention why was I even on a plane? I'm sure this will be provided, I'm just very much a fan of the initial phases of games like these (like in the Half Life games, for example, getting to know the world before it all goes to shit).

But yeah, this will be the first new game I get for my 360 for sure.
I wake up this morning to find out that Karl Rove has resigned AND there's a Bioshock demo?

Did I die? Am I in heaven now?
Sorry Jacob, there's still Bee Mario.

I made the mistake of seeing some demo screenshots. I feel like a poor street urchin staring through the window of a fancy restaurant.
You step off Bee Mario.

Bee Mario is awesome.

QFT.

Lots of people on my friends list as "away" this morning. I'm guessing everyone is downloading this demo. I'd like to see the 1st-day statistics on this thing.

I haven't played the demo yet but I did watch the title screen video. Big Daddy will fuck you up. Since I haven't played it yet, what did everyone think of the launch trailer? I thought it did a good job of laying a lot of basic things out without giving much away. I look forward to freezing and smashing some bad guys.
amazing demo.
I don't know why I'm so excited to buy a game that is almost guaranteed to give me nightmares, not to mention constant paranoia while playing. I'm amazed at how engrossed I got and it was weird walking the 20 feet from the Xbox to my sunny office.
Wow, I'm the minority here. The demo didn't do anything for me. Getting past the the amazing graphics and sound, the demo didn't click with me. I'll definately have to give it another shot later today, but I was kind of underwhelmed. It could be that the demo was a bit short as well. Or maybe lack of sleep. I don't know, but I'll try it again, otherwise this may just be a rental for me.
...

$#*% you!

Bee Mario army, represent.

Disappointing that the general consensus here at CHUD is that the Bioshock demo was underwhelming and generally "meh".

I may still give the game a whirl. We'll see. I may just delete the demo without giving it a try.
Haha, I see what you did there.
Jesus, demo delivers. I'm glad this comes out next week.
I'd just like to clarify that my original post does not in any way reflect my personal opinion regarding Our Glorious Leader, Bee Mario, May He Reign Forever.

Also, an HDMI-enabled Premium will be at my doorstep on Wednesday. This is BioShock, and I am merely weak flesh.
This demo was like sex, only without all the crying and running. Can't wait can't wait can't wait.
Well worth the trials and tribulations of downloading. I hope (and hear) that the demo streamlines the very early part of the game in the demo, which I don't find surprising. I went to bed early this morning, well pleased that I have this beast pre-ordered. I grinned like a child as you descended into Rapture. "Welcome........to RAPTURE!" Fantastic.
the live in nag/sexbot wonders why there are no black people in Rapture, were they not allowed/invited in?

I seem to remember Fallout having a similar bit of dialog raise this question with relation to the make up of Vault populations.
Well, from the storyline, wasn't Rapture set up by a crazy geneticist in the 1950's? That's probably your answer right there.
that's what I said. 50s. Racist. Elitist. etc.
Okay.

I think the twitching is random. I ganked a couple regular dudes with my pipe wrench and they both had random limbs twitching. One guy had a creepy smile on his face and was waving at me.

This game is going to take me a hojillion hours to finish because I stop to read every poster, look out every window, etc. I know I'll replay the first 10 minutes a lot before next week just to take in everything from the amazing city reveal. I stared at the Big Daddy working on the broken walkway the first time and only caught the tail of what must be a big-ass whale going underneath the bathysphere.

I'll turn it off right before the attack on the bathysphere because that part was freaky as hell.
What's amazing about this is that I'm trying to finish R6 Vegas right now, but all I want to do is play this demo again. CAn't get that shit out of my head.

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/artbook.html

they released an art book for download (PDF format) since it didn't make the cut for the LE. Pretty neat stuff. Don't scroll past the foreword too fast, Ken Levine writes it and gives you plenty of spoiler warning.

I'm so bummed that I'll probably be hunkering down for a hurricane when this game finally arrives at my door. fucking miami.
