Where does everyone shop for their DVDs?

Just wondering where everyone spends their money for DVDs.

Now that I'm no longer retail I seem to be spending cash at DeepDiscount, DVDPlanet and occasionally Amazon and Best Buy.

I finally got a credit card, so I seem to be spending most of my money at Amazon or when I'm back home in Memphis I go to Best Buy or Costco. I'll go to the mom and pop stores for my art house film from time to time thought.

DeepDiscount and Best Buy (price match when other brick-and-mortars have sales). Amazon, for special deals (Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc!). Oh, and for the latter, it's ALWAYS through CHUD.

Hmmm, yeah. That's been it for a long while now.

Amazon, Sendit (UK) and Yesasia. New Zealand dvd stores just don't do it for me anymore.

If I have to have the dvd NOW, I buy it at Best Buy. Otherwise, I wait for it to appear at one of my local used cd/dvd stores. If I'm patient, I can usually find it at one of those within a month.

Best Buy or Target, which frequently has some amazingly good deals.
Typically Best Buy and Amazon.com marketplace sellers. eBay surprises me from time to time with a good deal and sometimes when walking through Circuit City something will catch my attention.

Me too. But it's usually when I find a movie in its proper section and place in the alphabet.

Heh.

Good observation. Most CC stores I've entered seem to give lttle to no attention to this issue. Even Wal-Mart does better at this (though I will no longer shop at one).

I buy most older titles at the independent music/DVD store where I work. The employee discount gets things down to about Amazon level.

Our pricing on new titles and TV boxes usually sucks, though. For those, I go to Newbury Comics (cool chain in the northeast US) or BJ's.

I don't claim to be any different, but it's odd that hardcore film lovers are so price sensitive.

BJs? Isn't that a restaraunt on the south shore?

Desslar - I know I'm rather price picky when I shop. When you buy a lot, the savings adds up.

Amazon.com, Xploited Cinema, Diabolik DVD.

Older titles: Amazon

Newer releases: usually Best Buy

That's because hardcore film lovers appreciate buying food and paying their bills just as much as anyone else.

BJ's is pretty much just like Sam's Club. I've only ever seen(and been to) the one in Virginia Beach. I bought the Alien Quad there for maybe $20 less than Best Buy had it when it was released. Much like Sam's Club, their selection is really limited though.

I usually buy DVDs from Circuit City and Best Buy. I used to shop through Amazon but I had to return my Matrix set twice due to scratched discs and haven't ordered online since. I don't think it was their fault at all, it was just a hassle to have to return the sets twice. I like to be able to hold the box, check for rattling, check out the packaging, etc. before I buy now, it's just so much easier to go back to the store to return something.

Sure, but people are usually less price sensitive about their favorite hobby. Like all the video gamers who fought to get a spot in line to pay outrageous prices for the XBox 360 at launch, and will probably do so again for the PS3.

I for one try to get as much bang for my buck when it comes to discs. So I usually go for wherever is cheapest between Best Buy and Fry's for new stuff and Ebay and Amazon and their marketplace for older titles.

If I see an old movie on cable I really dig, like just recently with DILLINGER, I look to deepdiscountdvd because while they're slow to ship I'm not usually in a hurry to get whatever I order from them.

Best Buy, mostly, though the Pre-viewed at Blockbuster can yield some satisfying results.
Ah, see, that's a different animal.

I own not one used DVD (other than one that a friend hated).

Target
Best Buy
Sam's Club
Amazon
pre-owned dvd/cd/video game store

IT's usually one of those. Very rarely will I pick one up elsewhere.

I usually go to Target, or Gamestop, every now and then I go to Bestbuy and Circuit City, because I have to drive roughly 40 miles to the nearest one, or 30 miles in the other direction where there's 2 more. That's how it is living in South Texas. I still have to drive 17 miles to Target, Gamestop, and Walmart, so I also do a lot of online shopping on E-Bay, Amazon, Deep Discount, and sometimes on Half.

I have found myself going to Wal-Mart quite a bit recently, because I can get the new releases that I want monday at midnight, and sometimes the movies there are cheaper. It also doesn't hurt that now they carry unrated and widescreen versions of movies.

The main store I get my dvds from is Allied Record Exchange. There are 4 locations and they always have great deals on dvds(especially the tv show dvds). The other places I shop at are:

Best Buy(mostly for director's cuts & new releases)
Target(I always find great prices here)
Sam's Club(I've seen stuff here at amazingly cheap prices)
Gamestop(I occasionally find something here)

Wal-Mart can be cheap. Plus the fact that barring brand new titles, pretty much everything is $15 and under. And I couldn't even begin to list all the treasures I've gotten for $5 and under.

I also love Best Buy because of their specials. Like all WB 2-disc SEs, 2 for $18. Great deal.

I actually have had good results with Columbia House. I signed up years ago to get the 5 freebies, and had to buy like 4 at regular price. Not bad, especially because every time you order one at full price the rest of your orders are 60% off. Also, once you fulfill and cancel your membership, they try like hell to get you back. I played hard to get long enough that they offered me the initial 5 freebies again with an oblgation to only buy 2 at regular price. It's some hassle, but it's been worth it to me.

Actually, CH doesn't seem to mind if you just sign up again for the initial offer after you cancel a fulfilled one, so don't wait next time.
When it comes to new releases, I usually go with cheapest price (which is a huge factor in where I buy, and The Special Edition column is a must look on Tuesday mornings so I can see whether my lunch break will be at Target, Best Buy, or Circuit City) and older titles just depend as I usually end up picking things up when buying new titles.

I'm not a fan of buying online (I rather enjoy the buying process - walking down the isles, holding and reading the back of the box, etc.) so I usually go to a store. When business picks up (during the Holiday season) I usually buy new releases online - typically Amazon or DeepDiscount (which has horrible prices for new releases, but some great ones for older titles).

Yeah, but I didn't want to sign up and have an obligation of buying 4 again. Eventually they offered an obligation of only 2. I liked that better.
Good call. And make sure to only order the most expensive titles for your 1-penny choices and to wait until they have a free shipping offer to fulfill the obligated ones.
amazon usually. I get them cheapest there since I use amazon prime and get free shipping on most things (no tax either)
I'm not the biggest fan of gettin DVDs online since I tend to get screwed and it takes them about 3 weeks to get to my house instead of 3 days. The only places in my town that you can get DVDs and not get ripped off is Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart.
I usually go through DeepDiscountDVD ($30 for the four disc Dawn Of The Dead set!!!), Amazon, Target, or Borders.
dvdpacific - one of my favourite DVD shopping sites (often even cheaper then deepdiscount)
amazon.com
cd-wow (cheap and you can get many UK films and often Asian import for good prices and US DVDs)
blahdvd.com & play.com - Sometimes, when you search for a long time you can find better prices for the same DVD compared to amazon etc.
alldvd.ca - for original Russian films like Night/Day Watch and other Russian movies
yesasia - very popular but i think they're not really cheap but you can find just everything when it comes to Asian movies
hkflix
dvdfromkorea - one of the best sites to order Korean DVDs
dvdheaven (also Korean movies)

Half.com and Amazon are my top spots, but I sometimes get them from an independent store in West L.A. called Laserblazer. My girlfriend goes to Best Buy a minimum of once a week and on rare occasions I'll pick up something if it looks very cheap.
