Hank Scorpio, Burns' Son, The Burlesque House, Sherri Bobbins and the Episode about Prohibition. Best season yet.

Righteous. Been waiting on this one for awhile.
The Prohibition episode is one of the best.
Not the best season of all-time, but definitely part of the golden age. Can't wait to pick this up.

And who can forget Grade School Confidential?

Maude: "We're talking about sex in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N!"
Krusty: "Sex Cauldron?!? I thought they shut that place down!"

Awesome. Quick story - I went into the FYE yesterday and they had all the Simpsons DVD sets on sale for $25. Of course, Seasons 3-6 were nowhere to be found. I was sooo pissed.

Gotta love the Scorpio theme song.

Been waiting for this one, but it is a signal that the "golden age", as it has been called on this very thread, is soon coming to a close on DVD.

The only thing that bothers me is that it's taken so long to get to season 8, hell South Park Season 8 comes out like a week later and SP season 7 has already come out this year. At this rate we won't get Simpsons season 9 untill next year and we'll be up to South Park Season 9 in December.

It should also be noted that Frank "Grimy" Grimes appears in this season as well.
I honestly don't think the quality took a real hit until Season 12. But yeah - Golden Age...I think 8 is probably right there at the end.

There's no denying that Fox has been dragging their ass with this show and many others when it comes to DVD releases. I might argue though that South Park is far more topical and is being released with far fewer extras.

Indeed...those little mini-commentaries don't take any time at all to do. Plus the menu art in The Simpsons is phenomenal every season without fail. That paired with the full-length commentary on every episode, all of the animators bits, the old commercials - those Simpsons sets are damn near stacked. It makes sense that they take so long.

I assume you just forgot about the season 3 box set when you made that statement.
Well, perhaps I should have said without fail since Season 5. Season 3s was okay with the randomizer, though. I abhorr season 2 with that spinning thing and seasons 1 (and 2 as well) for their lack of Play All. 4 was kinda boring as well. But 5, 6 and 7 have really shone in the menu department.

The point is, I'm sure you'd agree, that those things take some effort to put together.

That effort is very much appreciated.

"You Only Move Twice" (aka the Hank Scorpio episode) -- My personal "Best Episode Ever". Can't freakin' wait until this hits.
The Rodney Dangerfield episode is just awful. But I'll get this for Scorpio.
Last truly good season. There's a few stinkers, but it's markedly better than even season 9.
Hank Scorpio, Flanders' breakdown ("Now I'm Prune Tracy! Take that--"), and The Guatamalan Insanity Pepper episode alone justify this season.

I’d like to get more enthused for this release. There are some great episodes to be sure, especially Scorpio’s. I think I’ve, and I say this sadly, gotten to the point where the horrid stench of the show currently has clouded my all around love for the series. Last summer I was pumped to buy season 6 but I still haven’t watched it all in its digital glory. I was lucky enough to get season 7 for Christmas and I haven’t even taken a disc out of the box. This is clearly my problem as these seasons are some of the best comedic television ever. But this is probably going to be the first season released that will go by me without much interest.

This one has the "Springfield Files" episode right? I seem to remember that being the last episode I truly enjoyed.

Yes indeedily!

Yes, Season 8 is near the end of the great seasons with enough genius episodes to qualify for purchase. Season 9 is last in my mind, the episode where Homer buys a Gun is one of my all-time favorites.

Picked this up today. I forgot the episode with Burns and Homer being buried under the Avalanche was in this season.

Gotta love the part where Burns' Nazi Snowmen face of against Homers Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Ghandi, and Teddy Roosevelt.
I forgot all about the Homer and Burns one! Itchy and Scratchy and Poochy should not go unmentioned, not to mention The Voyage of Homer (I think that's what it's called) with Johnny Cash.

I'll probably stop buying these at season 10, enough is enough. I'll finish collecting the family's skulls (I've warmed up to the clamshell design, plus the regular boxes and the picture motif is just stupid) and my Simpsons collection will be complete.

Apparently now random packed...different disc art....

I have the second "No fingers" artwork
I have the finger one.
I've got the no fingers one.

And man, what a bunch of fantastic episodes on this set. I've already watched the first disc. I immediately sat down and watched "You Only Move Twice", as it's my favorite episode, and then just got sucked into watching all the other episodes on disc 1 because they're so good.
I hate the fact Simpsons now use the same plots. Bart being kicked out of school. Homer and Marge about to diorvce. A Flashback.
Not sure what season it was in, but the Tomaco episode was utter shite. I feared for the series after that one.

I dig the Simpsons as much as everyone else, but these DVDs seem like a damn money pit.
In the commentaries they discuss why everyone always says that the new seasons are not as good.
"In five years everyone will say the show should be what it was five years ago"
They make a good point about how people act towards tv shows.

This season also introduced "Worst Episode Ever" to the world.
Has anyone noticed that they don't have subtitles on the recent seasons. I don't know if it's true for this one. I like having subtitles when I watch commentaries.
There are still closed captions. Not as pretty, but they still get the job done.
