A little history:
NES (1985): "core" system: $199/"Deluxe Set": $249 (but it came with R.O.B.!)
SNES (1991): $199
Nintendo 64 (1996): $199
Gamecube (2001): $199
As you can see, NOA has had a history of $199-priced TV-interfaced home consoles. Does this mean the Wii will follow the trend? Who knows, but I'm thinking we're going to be seeing a similarly priced system this holiday season (I'd also imagine they're attempting to beat Sony and will release the system in October, but that's likely just wishful thinking).
