anybody out there in cyberspace use Gamefly? thoughts?

i was thinking about signing up for the free trial....

I've been thinking about this too, since I'm enjoying Netflix so much right now. But I hear GameFly's turnaround is a little slow, and availability is spotty.

I'm pretty sure we've had a thread or two devoted to this, but I can't recall any details...

I've subscribed for a while. Their turnaround is uneven--sometimes it's as fast as three or four days, other times a week or more. It averages around six for me. It's still a pretty good price though, and if you choose a multi-game plan at least you can stagger it so that you're never game-less.

Their used game service is really good, too. Significantly discounted since you're already paying per month, plus free shipping, a $5 coupon ever three months, *and* permanent 5% and 10% additional discounts after six and twelve months, respectively. The cases and manuals they send are pristine, too.

Overall I think it's worth it.. I have the one game plan, and I wish turnaround wasn't so spotty but $15 a month isn't much skin off my nose.

I agree with the Count- I've been using the service for around 6 months now and don't regret it. Great selection, great prices on used games (that come with practically brand new cases and instructions- the only shitty thing is the turnaround. They only have one distribution center in CA, so if you live around there it should be better for you. Takes me a week or so to get mine.... but like the Count says, just stagger it. I've got the 2 out plan so when I finish one game I send it back as I make my way through the second one. Plus, you can rent DS games.... saved myself a lot a money that way.

I started one back in Feb. Before I joined Gamefly. Haven't had a problem with them yet. I recieved Oblivion from Gamefly about 4 days after it was released and I was offered to buy it for just $46.99 as well.

Plus Gamefly has this thing with the post office going on. Whenever the post office recieves your returning game, Gamefly is alerted somehow and they go and ship out your next game before they recieve your returing game. It's pretty cool.

I wanted to get the two game plan so that I would never be without a game and also because they're doing the first month of the two-game deal for $14.95 right now....I'm so tired of late fees and lack of selection at the stores near me....And they do have some great prices on pre-played games too.

Anyone else have trouble with Gamefly's website? It runs ungodly slow on my computer. On top of that, the first game I had out never got back to them.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

I got the two game deal around Christmas. One game for me, one for my stepson. After we signed up, it only took a couple of days to receive the games. When I was through with my first game, I sent it back and waited for the next one. After a little over a week I submitted the problem that I never received my game, so they sent out another copy. Later that day I got my game in the mail. I got an email that said that if I received two copies, just send one back. So when I received the second copy later that week, I just sent it back. I wasn't too fond of the game, so I sent the first copy back with the second copy. They received both copies of the game on the same day, and sent the next two games in my que to me. I received those two days later (yeah, turnaround is inconsistent). So now I have three games out, even though they don't have a three game plan. I haven't received an email addressing the issue either. I love GameFly!

I've been a long-time subscriber but their turnaround time has gotten ridiculous in the last year or so. New game availability has gone way down, too. Turnaround used to be about six days from NYC, which wasn't great but understandable since the shipping center is in CA. For a while, when they first started the FastReturn service, it was cut to 3-5 days, which was great. But there's no rhyme or reason to when games are accepted by FastReturn (possibly the Post Office's fault), and even though I haven't sent back many games in a while, the turnaround has been well more than a week the last two or three times.

I think they're just overwhelmed with business now because of the new consoles, but they've been "looking into" additional shipping centers for like three years, it's ridiculous. They have great used game deals, but I'm probably going to cancel soon until they actually open another shipping center.

If you complain a lot they'll credit you a few bucks here and there. My service has gotten really iffy as well, with me having to report 4 games as lost because they never got them back. The games are insanely cheap and I like the service, I just wish it were faster. That Fast Return thing hardly works any more.

There's another service called online called Gameznflix, anyone tried that? It's about half the price of gamefly and has movies, as well. Doesn't seem to have as good a selection as either gamefly or netflix, though.

I'll have to check that other service out.

Now I don't want to end up on another gov't list, but I would say my local post office is iffy in the credentials at best. When my wife and I started dating she was in the same postal zone we are in now. Her netflix often did not make it back to the point where she was scared that she was going to be investigated.

I thought on the package I got i came out of somewhere in jersey, but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't know, but its funny I was going to get Lost Planet, but now I'm waiting for Warioware. I'm hoping the wife will dig it so I'm not in a constant Wii Bowling struggle with her.

I guess I should shake the shit out of my 360 when I'm angry.

Hooray for liability-assigning correspondence!

Does Gamefly ding you for the full purchase price if you ruin a disc?
It's the "replacement" cost, which should be less than the market purchase price, but who knows. They do suggest just going through with the "let me keep this" function on the website.

Btw Gamefly's website is slow to a point that it seems intentional.
I don't think so because I've actually gotten a game that wouldn't play on my 360. Looking at the game, there was a scratch/burn that ran all around the disc. I just sent it back and emailed gamefly letting them know what happened. No penalties for me.
Na, it's like Netflix. If it's scratched they won't charge you. I had a cracked disc come to my house once. They just don't want you scratching them, that's all.
