Xbox 360 Purchase...which titles

Sup guys, I am finally about to take the plunge into a 360 within the next month. Couple of questions to those who already own it.

1. I was pretty sure that the price would drop come this fall, but now I am hearing that with the ps3 being so highly priced, MS is going to stick with their pricing as is.

2. Titles. I am pretty intrigued by Oblivion, but I don't think its my kind of game. (i am more of a twitch gamer, faster online experience type games) I dont like WWII shooters. I enjoy sports titles, and NBA 2k6 loooks pretty impressive. I KNOW that i will get the new splinter cell and gears of war, but beyond that I don't know what titles to pick up.

3. Any reason I shouldn't get one right now?

The only reason I'm still holding off is because I'm still skeptical about their claims that they won't be dropping the price. I think the reason they denied the price drop is because we are just now reaching the point to where you can easily walk into a store and find a top of the line 360. If they had announced that there would be a price drop, customers would've said "oh well, we've waited this long, what's a few more months." By denying that there will be a price drop, customers will now go ahead and purchase it at the displayed price. Come launch time for the PS3 (and hopefully the Wii as well), Microsoft will probably counter the launches of both those systems with the one-two punch of "Gears of War" along with a $50-$100 price drop.

2. Pick up Fight Night - Round 3 if you like sports titles.

Probably my favorite game to play online is UNO, but that's a marketplace game. If you're looking for a decently fun online experience, PGR3 is pretty good. However the controls took me a long time to master.

Edited because I was an idiot and didn't read that fazer hated WWII shooters.

I'll second that. One of the best single player FPS on any system.

EDIT:

Even if you hate WWII shooters, you should still give COD 2 a try. I'd put it's single player up against Halo any day of the week.

Another good 360 game you might want to consider is Condemned. Incredibly freaky, although far too short. I'd say it's worth at least a rental.
Even though you don't like WWII shooters, COD2 is the best thing I've played on the console so far.

My little brother swears by Oblivion and Condemned

I'm currently playing Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and it's pretty good so far.

THAT is an excellent game. The controls take a bit longer than most games to get used to, but the gameplay is ridiculously fun. Incredible graphics, some very realistic sound, and some incredibly fun online play. The online co-op is about as perfect as you could hope for. Probably my favorite online game, next to UNO.

I also love Hexic, a Tetris-like puzzle game from the creator of Tetris that's included in the console.

So with GRAW...I hear the shootouts are very impersonal. I am a fan of the halo 2 type shooter atmosphere. I know GRAW is much more tactical, and it sounds like a fantastic online experience, but my question is from a twitch arcadey guy like myself would i enjoy it?
To answer your question fazer, I'm the exact same kind of player. I thought I would hate GRAW based on the fact that I hated the shit out of rainbow six 3 and sucked balls at splinter cell, but when I actually played it, it was fun as hell. Like I said before, the controls are tough to master at first, but it is well worth it when you blast the crap out of some poor asshole with a grenade launcher online.

Some people think that online, every other player is a pretentious dick. But so long as you play with people who aren't super hardcore arrogant pricks (and there's really not that many), you'll have fun.

For what it's worth, I sold GRAW back after two weeks, and I still own Call of Duty 2 after six months. In case you didn't know, CoD2 plays more like Quake than any sort of WWII game. Very fast and twitchy, pure run-and-gun stuff. You'd like it.

Also, I didn't think I'd be interested in Oblivion either, but I'm currently 90 hours in and it's one of the best games I've ever played. It's worth a rental at least, just to see if you dig it.

And the Xbox 360 is worth buying for Geometry Wars alone.
I'll second the Geometry Wars purchase. Even after the seemingly endless drought, I still find myself going back to this above and beyond any other title I own.

One game I wouldn't really recommend is Tomb Raider, unless you like playing a sub par Prince of Persia clone. Worth a rental though.

Condemned is worth checking out if you like your games creepy and, at times, maddeningly frustrating.

Yes, Geometry Wars is the best twitchy, fun game available on the system, but are we serious in suggesting that a $5 Marketplace game is worth the purchase of a new $400 system?

Appreciate the input Slater and PSU. So does this mean, the horrible CoD2 online play when it launched has been addressed? I heard that it was unplayable for the first few months.

Christ, it was terrible when I first got it, but I haven't played a laggy game since the patch. Since that time, it's become an excellent game to play online.

Yeah, it's all fixed now.

Absolutely!

Then sign me up! Seriously, though, it's great and all (in bursts) and will be played till the end of time I'm sure even after Xbox 720s have come and gone, but I'll wait until Gears of War or Mass Effect or Bioshock have come out to pick up a 360 myself.

And while they're not at all the same game, nobody better bitch if a Virtual Console Duck Hunt is the only thing worth playing 6 months from Wii release (yes, I know how that sounds).

I was thinking like you as well Bobble monkey, but the only reason I am planning on getting one now is because the damn things are in stock. I am not going to go shop hopping from brick and mortar to brick and mortar to find an xbox 360 during the holidays. i would rather have one now going into the holidays...unless that price drop rumor is going to come true.

Good call. I remember scoffing at the clerk at EB last May when they were takin preorders for 360s. Boy, did that come back to haunt me when I was freezing my ass off outside Best Buy the night it came out.

But in terms of games that you'd enjoy, I'll toss another name into the hat: Far Cry Instincts Predator. Very arcadey shooter. Interesting single player plot, fun gameplay (especially when you get feral powers and start throwing guys off cliffs), and an incredibly deep map editor. The online play is pretty fun too.
