Coolness!

McFarlane Toys will soon give Lost's legions of fans something new to obsess over. A series of Lost action figures is scheduled to be released late fall, 2006, and is destined to populate office cubicles around the country.

McFarlane Toys' Lost Series 1 captures six fan-favorite characters from the series' first season: Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, Charlie and Shannon. Each 6-inch Lost figure will have a detailed base and photographic backdrop, capturing an episode-specific moment in the character's story. In addition, each package will include a detailed prop reproduction central to the character's story, enabling fans to "own" a piece of the show's mythology. For example, Kate's figure will be packaged with a reproduction of the toy airplane that plays so prominently into her backstory. More than just action figures, McFarlane's Lost figures will once again raise the bar for fans and for the industry.

We will also be releasing Lost deluxe boxed sets -- re-creating key moments between multiple characters, and small-scale dioramas -- replicating central locations such as the mysterious island and the infamous hatch.
Here's a picture of the Charlie figurine.

The decision to include Shannon still baffles me. It must have been a part of her contract or something...
I'll only buy hers if it's a post-dream-journey-monster-attack version.

No Sawyer or Sayid? Nonsense.

Still, if the Locke figure comes with a knife-filled briefcase and wheelchair, I'll buy it.

Don't forget the orange accessory!

Ha! I didn't notice that. The exclusion of Sawyer and Sayid is indeed baffling.

They release toys in series. They are saving other popular characters for the next series.

How is this even remotely cool?

I love Lost and would love to have my very own Evangeline Lily....but I think I'll pass.

This quite easily cracks the top-ten for WORST THINGS EVER.

I agree. In the history of the world, toys based on a popular television series is easily one of the worst things that's ever happened.

Wow, those are actually pretty well done. Jack looks more like a bloated Adam Sandler than Matthew Fox, though.

Looks more like a bloated Ben Afleck....

The Charlie one is pretty well done.

The expression on Kate's face is hilarious.

I'll definitely be getting the Locke one for my desk at work.

Does anyone else think Hurley's face looks a little too small for the head?

Oh... and the hatch "playset" looks pretty cool.

Wow, that Lilly figure is horrendous (and that's keeping in mind that the figures in the photos always look better than the ones that will hit shelves). I'll probably only pick up Locke.

This phrase has been redundant for many years.

Count me among those who would pick up the Locke figure.

The Kate figure looks like a deer caught in the headlights.

Apparently there will be a big release and signing on November 6th at the Times Square Toys R Us with Todd McFarlane and a "principal LOST cast member (to be announced)". Gosh. Who is the only "principal cast member" who has a figure coming out but could possibly have time to attend an action figure signing in New York City?

Anyway, in a spot of cool news, Series 2 of the figures will be available in May 2007. They are:

Sawyer
Jin
Sun
Mr. Eko (this figure could go very right or very wrong)
Oceanic Flight 815 Crash Site Boxed Set

The Jack figure looks like Nick Swardsen.

I won't feel a need to own any of these, but Locke and Hurley are the most appealing ones.

Not sure why anyone would want these since the show has no re-watchability.

I vote no.

I've never seen a single episode, so my opinion is probably irrelevant. However, from a creative standpoint, these would have been a hell of a lot more interesting if they had painted the figures to match the lighting in the background photos.
