The Mega Man Franchise

Until recently, my Mega Man days had ended with the Snes, since I never had a Playstation for the longest time (it really really fucking irked me that Megaman ended up there instead of logically continuing its life on the 64 or gamecube), but I recently got an old playstation from a buddy that didn't want his anymore, and got the three Mega Man X games for it, it's it's completely renewed my love for this franchise. They apparently didn't get great reviews, but I thought they continued the franchise quite well. They didn't have much in the way of gameplay innovation, but why would you want them to? As far as the upgrading , I thought X5 and especially X6 brought it to new heights. I loved the different armors that you acquire one piece at a time, and the way you can equip different parts and abilities as you both find them and acquire the ranks necessary to use them.

I'm bummed that X8 (x7 was apparently a shitty 3d attempt) is on the Ps2 (anyone here play it? how is it?), since I don't see myself getting one of those, though the new DS rendition looks really spiffy.

Anyone else got love for this franchise?

First the Zelda thread, now this. I'm reliving my old-school gaming days with much reminiscing.

Mega Man was my fave franchise during the NES era. I anticipated every new entry, and couldn't wait to buy EGM and Nintendo Power to get some new tidbits and screenshots on the new bosses. Even when the SNES took off, Mega Man 4 and 5 kept me busy. I know the original Mega Man X for the SNES is highly thought of as one of the series' high points, but it left me pretty cold. The futuristic and sci-fi take on the bosses just didn't feel like a natural extension from what came before it. Still a tight game in terms of gameplay and definitely challenging (I believe I got to the final boss, but couldn't beat it), and maybe I would like it more now if I played it again.

Mega Man 2 is still a classic. The jump in graphics and gameplay innovation from the first game is jaw-dropping. Mega Man 3 had a better story, but the experience just wasn't as fun and memorable as 2.

For the NES, I've only played the first 3 Mega Mans. Those are terrific games.

I've played the 3 X games and MM7 for the Super Nintendo. Personally, I liked the X games as I dug the darker anime like look and the fact that you could upgrade your suit and stuff. I liked the 2nd one the best cause you could ride the bike and it had memorable boss levels. Like the ostrich one where he runs all over the screen.

MM7 was ass.

X4 for Playstation was fun. Though I only got through half of the game. I haven't played the rest of them.

They have the MMX and regular MM Collections out for the main three consoles and their both worth checking out.

You should check out X6. At first it can seem a bit muddy and overly complicated, but once you get into the meat of the upgrades and figure out what you need to do for it all, it becomes bliss.

I think my faves on each system are 3, X, and X6. X2 was cool, but X just had that new magic.
