Your usage of the word lame denotes the following definition: Pathetically lacking in force or effectiveness; "a feeble excuse"; "a lame argument". It doesn't fit. Why doesn't it fit? Because it's not in fact lame, alot of the people who do this sort of thing (ie Fabfunk) are undeniably lame, but you seem to be making the assumption that people that do this sort of thing do it because they couldn't get any otherwise and that whatever they are getting wasn't worth having in the first place, whether or not that underlying message is clear in your post, I think it's obviously part of the reason behind it. See you're not really saying meeting women online is lame, you're saying the people who do that are lame.

People have been using alternatives ways to meet people (ya know besides going to bars and clubs where you're not likely to find a very wide range of personalities anyway) for a long time now. Now it's a little more accessible than posting an add in the singles section of your local paper (now THAT is lame), and thusly more people are doing it. Not just pedophiles, nerds, and people who otherwise have really low standards.

Jokes aside...I think the reaction is more toward myspace itself than the people utlizing it. Of course it isn't necessarily worse than any other social website. It is just the biggest fish right now.

Not the point (although people do meet through message boards not to unlike this one), the community...the various discussions that take place...it's much the same, it's just alot smaller, and obviously geared towards a more specific line of discussion.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you live in small towns? Might seem like a strange question, but it's relevent. I mean I live in LA so I see things on a regular basis that are alot crazier than anything that's been brought up here. Even fabfunk would seem pretty moderate.

Oh well apparantly I misunderstood that, you see, I can admit to my mistakes. You did say that my POV that meeting people through classified ads being lame (not really the best word...I would choose downright creepy and desperate) but meeting people online wasn't...was assinine, this point I absolutely have to disagree with. There's a huge difference between responding to a classified ad with the intent to get laid and engaging in a conversation with someone online that leads to meeting in person...and meeting a person that in turns leads to getting laid.

Of course there absolutely is a whole lame/creepy/weird/desperate side to meeting people online. I'll give you an example. My aunt (formerly, by marriage) divorced my uncle because she's a manipulative, two-faced, bitch. She met a guy online, a convicted felon, met him, fucked him, got impregnated by him, and married him after only knowing this guy in person for under a month. How fucked up is that?
